Turned Out By A Boss(22)
Cree
Today was the day Denim was getting released from the hospital and as the good best friend she was Cree was going to be the one to pick her up. Having to make a quick stop first she was on the Verrazano Bridge headed to Staten Island. She couldn't contain the excitement she had in her after waking up to the love of her life on her voicemail telling her he was home.
Just thinking about the calls he received she laughed at the fact that not even a few weeks ago she was throwing Daryl’s things out her house. While he thought she was doing it for attention and because she missed him that was the furthest from the truth. In all reality, her man was due to be home soon and she'd be damned if she invited him over with the next niggas shit still in her closet and car still parked in her driveway like he resided there. That was a no go.
At the age of twenty Cree had been through a lot in life. Growing up with no father present and a mother who suffered from schizophrenia she always felt alone. That is until she turned fourteen and met none other than Rah’lee Brasden. She smiled to herself as she thought about their first encounter.
Cree stood by her locker in Port Richmond High School waiting on her girls to get to school so they could walk to their first period together. She stood watching as the guys drooled over the new cheerleaders that were picked and rolled her eyes.
“Fix your face.” Her girls Siena and Lexi laughed walking up to her. “I don't know why you stressing them bitches. Fuck the cheer team.” Lexi said opening her locker grabbing her books.
“You right I didn't wanna join anyway.” Cree said but her girls already knew that was a lie.
The truth was all she wanted to do was cheer. She had been a cheerleader all throughout middle school so entering high school she thought it would be easy to join but she was sadly mistaken. With a schizophrenic mother who could barely keep a job, that left them struggling so Cree wasn't what you would consider the best dressed. So no matter how pretty she was or how much of a body she had if she wasn't up to the other students liking she was and always would be considered a nobody.
“Alright, later y’all I'm going to class. I can't afford to be late with the grade I got last marking period.” Siena said walking off.
Splitting up Cree walked off towards her Algebra class before realizing she didn't have her math book. Back pedaling to her locker she searched for her book.
“Can you tell me where I can find the lab room?” Turning around, she was faced with who she thought to be the most handsome boy she'd ever seen. He was a chocolate complexion but had exotic features. Drawn to him she gave him the once over and looked at his outfit and knew he would never want someone like her.
Here she was dressed in an outdated pair of Coogi jeans a v neck shirt with a pair of old converses while he was head to toe in True Religion and a fresh pair of timbs Not to mention the iced out jewelry he had on.
“Umm y.. you can turn left then go up the steps it's the second room on the right.” she said with her head down avoiding eye contact.
Walking closer to her, he picked her chin up and looked into her eyes. Licking his lips, he said, “Never look down when you talking to someone baby girl you too pretty for that besides it shows weakness.” he said smiling at her before walking off.
The whole time Cree sat in her Algebra class she thought about the unknown handsome boy she'd run into earlier that morning. When lunch came around, she dreaded it because unlike Siena and Lexi she had second lunch while they had first so she was all alone. Taking a seat at the table, it didn't take long for the cheerleaders to come starting with her as they did every day since announcing the new members.
She sat ignoring them like she always did because in the back of her mind she knew they weren't worth her time or energy. It was funny to her how they pretended to be her friend and like her just to get her to make up the cheers for them then kick her to the curb. Like always the cheerleaders walked away feeling defeated because they didn't get the rise out of her that they wanted.
“Why you let them talk to you like that?” She looked up to see mister handsome himself. She hadn't even known he was standing there, now she felt embarrassed as she wondered had he heard them calling her all types of bums and talking about her mother being crazy.
“I pay it no mind. They want a reaction and I refuse to give them the satisfaction,” she said shrugging her shoulders as if it was no big deal.
Sitting down across from her. Rah'lee spoke. "You need to start defending yourself and stop letting these hoes disrespect you. How they know all that shit about you anyway?”
He watched as Cree shrugged, “I thought they were my friends.”
Shaking his head, he threw her lunch away and pulled her out of the cafeteria. He knew just by looking at Cree that she was very na?ve and easily manipulated. She had a certain innocence about her that he was digging but also planned to break her out of it, and quick.
"Where are you taking me? My momma gon’ kick my ass she finds out I left school early.” Cree protested.
Stopping in front of her he pulled her by her shoulders. "Chill Cree. You a pretty girl and I see a lot of potential in you, I'm about to give you a reason to shit on these bitches in here and everywhere else you go,” he said as they walked to the bus stop heading to the Staten Island Mall.
Every store they walked in since being in the mall Rah’lee wasted no time picking up something he thought would look nice on Cree.
