In Spite of the Bosset Life(9)

“I thought you were-,”

“Don’t say that. I’m right here, Koì,” said Ace, kissing my lips. I savored his taste and cried even more. I felt his body to make sure it was real and it was. Ace was back. “I will never leave you. I couldn’t Mook Mook.”

“I missed you so much. You don’t understand,” I said, breaking down. Everything was hitting me at once.

“I missed you too, baby. Right now, focus on the baby. I want you to give me a healthy little girl,” said Ace, rubbing my face. I nodded my head yes because no words could come out. I was so choked up, I couldn’t speak. Dr. Edmonds and Nola came back in the room. They both looked full of joy. Nola was wiping her tears and rubbing her jeans. She often did that as a habit. “You ready to start pushing?” asked Dr. Edmonds, sitting down on the stool. “I see your blood pressure spiked for a minute. Yo husband gon get kicked out if he disturbing my patient,” said Dr. Edmonds joking.

“I’m not going nowhere.”

“You sure not,” I said, kissing my baby lips. Ace held my hand and stroked my hair. I had him put it up in a ponytail for me. Ace was being extra and put it in a cute bun. I wasn’t worried about my hair at all. My legs were propped up and I had my oxygen mask on. It was time to push.

“I’m going to count to three and I want you to bear down. Hold it for ten,” said Dr. Edmonds counting. We did this for ten hours. I grew restless but Ace encouraged me to keep trying anyway. It wasn’t even that painful. I just wanted to go to sleep.

“Daddy, here comes another big one. Hold that leg back for me! This might be it,” said Dr. Edmonds, directing Ace. I took in air then started pushing. “1, 2, 3, 4, 5! I see the head, keep pushing!”

“It hurts, I can’t,” I said, sweating hard and still pushing. I don’t know what kind of contraction was coming through my body but that muthafuka right there hurt!

“Yes you can, Koì. Push!!! Come on,” said Dr. Edmonds, getting ready.

“Push baby. Push,” said Ace, looking me deep in my eyes. I closed my eyes and started pushing. Seconds later, Dr. Edmonds starting yelling that my baby had a lot of hair. I kept my eyes closed and kept pushing. I felt tearing and burning between my legs. Next thing I knew; my baby was laid on a tray with nurses crowding her.

“Dr. Edmonds, what’s wrong what my baby? I want my baby,” I said crying. Ace was holding my hand and trying to see Majesty. She wasn’t breathing. “Dr. Edmonds!” I was yelling and cussing! They rushed my baby girl out the room and I could’ve fainted. I only saw a glimpse of Majesty’s face and she looked just like Ace and I. A perfect mixture. Ace held onto me as I cried. “Ace, go get my baby please. Pleaseeee Ace! I want my baby,” I said crying. I didn’t know what was happening. I was holding Ace then all of a sudden, he was gone. Everyone was gone. The room was dim and I didn’t know what was happening. I heard thundering and the lights flickered in the hall. “Somebody HELPPPP! I want my baby,” I said, climbing out bed and walking out the hospital room. I held onto the rail and my belly as I walked down the dark hallway. I was crying hysterically and blood was gushing between my legs. “I want my baby! Bring me my baby,” I said, sliding to the floor. I fought to keep my eyes open but I couldn’t. I fainted.

Chapter 5

“Get up Koì! Wake up,” said Nola, shaking me. I jumped up and she jumped back. “You okay? You was mumbling in your sleep?” My eyes began to water. I looked and checked to see if I was still hooked to the monitors and I was. I took extra time examining Majesty’s heartbeat. “Did you have a dream or something?” asked Nola, looking scared. I checked between my legs and my belly.

“A bad one. A really bad dream,” I said, holding my belly and holding back tears.

“I’m so sorry, friend. C’mere,” said Nola, hugging me. I closed my eyes then opened them. I looked at Ace’s picture and couldn’t hold my tears. Ace wasn’t back. I still had a hole in my heart. My dream felt so real. I felt every touch and kiss. I felt kinda crazy in a way now.

“Can you have Dr. Edmonds check on the baby?” I asked, thinking about my baby girl. The dream felt so real. I had to hear my baby’s heartbeat. That would clear my mind and take me off edge. Nola did as I requested. Momma Dukes came in the room and prayed over me. She prayed that my mind would be clear of all troubling things. After she prayed, I felt better, I had to say. Once I heard Majesty’s heartbeat, I was able to smile. Dr. Edmonds checked me and said I was six centimeters. I was progressing well. Nola asked did I want anything and I told her no. But it was one thing.

“Can you lay with me?” I asked with my hands on my belly. Nola was my best friend and I needed her now more than ever.

“Sure Koì,” said Nola, moving the cover back. Akamai turned on a Tyler Perry movie on and I relaxed more.

“Look at y’all,” said Sebastian, coming in the room. Nola was already fast asleep. “Two beautiful pregnant woman,” said Sebastian, kissing my forehead and his wife’s lips. Nola started moving.

“Hey baby,” said Nola, sensing that was her husband. That put a smile on Sebastian’s face. He started taking pictures of us in the hospital bed.

“How you know it wasn’t me?”
