In Spite of the Bosset Life(5)

“Friend, you know I love you right,” said Nola, smiling at me.

“Yes Nola. I love you too.”

“I hate seeing you like this. I can’t imagine being in your shoes right now. I just hope this storm will pass.”

“I pray my husband come home.”

“Huh. This one’s from M’Acesyn,” said Nola with a warm smile. She handed me this perfectly wrapped box. She kept humming and rocking. I tore the paper and it was a snow globe. It had a picture of us on our wedding day. I broke out in tears. I missed him so much and wanted to just kiss his face.

“Do you want to keep going? Or was it too soon?” asked Nola, not knowing if this was a good idea after all. “We can stop.” I smiled. I wanted to know what else my husband brought me.

“I’m okay. Hand me something else. Keep singing.” Nola softly sung as I opened my gifts.

For the next couple of hours, I cried and laughed. M’Acesyn had brought so many gifts for me. I felt loved but wished he was here in my presence. I wanted him to see my face when I opened his heartfelt gifts. He bought me countless of bags, heels, and dresses. He had to buy the whole Victoria Secret’s store because I promise I had everything that could’ve been made. He brought me lingerie and all these scented oils. Ace outdid himself and even got this huge picture painted of us. I had Akamai hang it up above my bed frame immediately. I decided to keep Ace’s gifts wrapped. I wasn’t ready for that. I already cried every time I went in our closet and saw his clothes.

“I wonder what’s in here,” said Nola, shaking this little box. I took it and opened it. It was the other two rings I couldn’t pick from when he asked me to marry him. “Girl, let me see those rings,” said Nola with big eyes. I handed over the rings, almost dropping them. My hands were shaking like crazy. Nola gave me more tissue.

“Those were from Dubai. Ace picked them out. I couldn’t choose so I let him. I guess he brought all three but was saving these two. This was the third one.” I played with my wedding ring, feeling some comfort.

“They are beautiful, Koì.” Nola took the rings and slide them on my fingers.

“Girl, don’t nobody got shit on you! You got over forty-two carats on yo hand right now,” said Nola smiling. I had to smile at my best friend. She was always making me smile.

“I got fifty, to be exact,” I said, looking at my hand.

“Your husband loved you, girl. You can’t say he didn’t.”

“I’m still in love with him. It’s breaking me. He made me fear nothing but he forgot to teach me how to live without him. I’m hurting so bad without him. If it wasn’t for y’all and this baby, I promise Nola-,”

“Don’t say that,” said Nola, getting up and hugging me. She sung in my ear, trying to make me feel better. She knew what I was about to say. We cried together for a few minutes and Nola got herself together. She was always being strong for me and she rarely cried.

“I’m pregnant friend,” said Nola, wiping her tears.

“You’re lying! Congratulations! When did you find out?” I asked, drying my tears. Her good news came at the right time. We would have babies about eight months apart, depending on how far she was. I was excited!

“Dr. Edmonds called me this morning. I guess Sebastian was right. He been saying for the last two weeks I was. I didn’t believe him though,” said Nola, playing with her rock on her finger now.

“I’m so happy for you guys! Sebastian probably happier than everybody.”

“Girl, he been sending me pictures of little outfits all damn day. I told him not to buy nothing until we found out the sex. He so thirsty. He said it didn’t matter what it was. His child was gonna be fly! This foo already bought diamond earrings. I asked him how he knew I wanted my son to be walking around with his ears pierced, if it is a boy! He said if it was a girl or boy, they were rocking those earrings. I just hung up on that foo,” said Nola. I was smiling and laughing.

“Well, let that man do what he wants! My brother want to buy diamond earrings for a baby that’s not here, then so be it.”

“He need to go buy me some. I’m about to text his ass right now,” said Nola, picking up her phone. My mind drifted to Ace. I wished I could call or text Ace right now.

“C’mon. Let’s see what you guys bought baby Majesty.” I got my pregnant butt up and wobbled to Majesty’s room. I really needed to open her gifts because I didn’t know if she had enough summer clothes. I knew me and Ace bought plenty for the winter because that’s what was mainly in season then.

“I haven’t been in this room since Ace was home.” I had been so depressed lately I didn’t do nothing. All I did was stay in bed and cry.

“Who did this artwork? I need they number,” said Nola, looking at the walls of Majesty’s room. Her theme was Noah’s Ark. Her crib was shaped as Noah’s Ark and she had all the animals’ faces painted on the walls. Ace had a vision and he brought it to life. The room came out nice. She had four feet statues of various animals scattered around. I began taking the ornaments off my baby girl’s tree. Nola assisted me. The pain in my heart hurt so bad.

“I’ll have to get it out of one of Ace’s phones. I don’t have the contact anymore,” I said, looking at Majesty’s first ornament. I put it in a box because I was saving everything.
