Rebound (Seattle Steelheads #1)(88)

He smoothed my hair. “I am so sorry about giving up on this. I was freaking out over my ex, and some idiot feelings, and…” He sighed. “The fact is, you’re the best thing that’s happened to me in a long time, and I was a dumbass to run when I got scared.”

I drew away enough to meet his gaze. “What were you so scared of?” I wasn’t sure I wanted to know, but if we were getting it all out on the table, there was no point in holding anything back.

“Feeling this way about you.” Geoff’s hand drifted down my cheek. “It’s been a long road, getting back on my feet after Marcus, and it scared the hell out of me to realize how fast I was falling for you.”

My throat tightened.

“I love you, Asher,” he whispered, drawing me in a little closer. “And that scares the hell out of me, but it’s the truth.”

“I love you too.” And damn if I wasn’t starting to get choked up, because for the first time in longer than I could remember, I meant it. I believed someone else meant it. It wasn’t a lie, either to keep someone from leaving or pacify them so they wouldn’t take a swing at me. It was real. Honest. True.

Geoff smiled. Then he drew me the rest of the way in, and the first soft contact of his lips to mine almost knocked my knees out from under me.

Slowly, the kiss deepened, and we eased our way from a gentle, light touch to something closer to when we’d made out in the very beginning. When I’d pretty much thrown myself at him and we’d wound up in my bed. It was still sweet and tender, but there was heat behind it now that took me back to the nights we’d spent together.

By the time he pulled back and looked in my eyes, I wasn’t at all surprised that we were both out of breath.

“You in any hurry to take off?” he asked.

“Not at all.” I slid my hands up his back and grinned at him. “Why? Do you want me to stay?”

“Am I that transparent?”

I pressed my hips against him, deliberately rubbing across his thickening erection. “Transparent isn’t the word I’d use.”

Geoff gasped, a shiver running through him. “Well, I guess it’s a good thing we’re at my place instead of yours.”

“Yeah? Why’s that?”

“Because my bedroom is about ten feet away.” He nudged me back a step. “And there’s no stairs.”

“Is there lube?”

“Tons.”

“Mmm. Lube and no stairs. I like it. Show me the way.”

Geoff grinned. Then he took my hand, and we hurried down the hall.

Chapter 27

Geoff

Asher had never been in my bedroom before, but bringing him in here tonight felt familiar anyway. It didn’t matter where we were—just being with him was like coming home.

Neither of us was in a hurry. We sat on the edge of my bed, and I cupped his face as we gently kissed for the longest time. I was turned on, and I wanted to get him naked, but right now, I just needed to savor being here with him. Just…make sure he really was here and I hadn’t conjured this whole thing up while nervously waiting for him to respond to my texts.

No, I hadn’t conjured it. Asher was definitely here, arms around me and lips moving languidly with mine. He was back. Yes, I’d fucked everything up, but not beyond repair, and now here he was.

I held him tighter just because I could, and Asher melted against me.

“I want you so bad right now,” he whispered between kisses.

“I’m all yours.” I brushed my lips across his. “For as long as you want me.”

His mouth curved into a grin, and the arm around my waist tightened, pulling me in closer. “Love the sound of that.”

“Mmm, me too.”

“Clothes off?”

“Clothes off.”

We shared one last long kiss, then got up and stripped out of our clothes. Fuck, he looked good. He always did, but after convincing myself I wasn’t going to see him again—never mind like this—he was utterly mouthwatering.

The second we were both naked, we sank into bed together and tangled up, making out again as our hands roamed each other’s naked skin. My queen size bed seemed a lot smaller with me and a hockey player in it, but that was okay. We didn’t exactly take up much space when we were like this.

“You said you have lube, right?” he asked.

“Mmhmm. Want me to get it?”

Asher nodded.

I rolled over, picked up the bottle, and joined him again. We exchanged grins as I put some lube on each of our palms, and then we just lay there, kissing lazily as we stroked each other with slicked-up hands.

“Ungh, fuck,” he murmured. “I missed this.”

“Me too.” I gave his cock a long, tight stroke. “You know what else I missed?”

“Hmm?”

I grinned. “Roll on your stomach.”

Asher flashed me a grin, and then he did was he was told. I climbed on top, carefully keeping my weight on my right arm to give my left shoulder a break, and guided myself to his ass crack.

“Not between my thighs this time?” There was a note of uncertainty in his voice, so I leaned down and kissed his shoulder.

“Trust me.”

“Oh, I do. This is just different.”
