Beautiful Broken Rules (Broken, Series #1)(30)

“I’m positive the feelings are mutual, but they won’t act on it for some reason.”

“When he came home over the summers he would talk about the two of y’all all the time. Jace and I swore he was banging one of you, if not both. He always said he would never do that, y’all were different and he couldn’t risk ruining everything. But the way he talked about Quinn was different,” he added.

“Yeah, I don’t even know how to talk about it with Quinn. She’s just as stubborn as Cole.” I reached out and touched the sides of his face. “Speaking of stubborn, so when can I ride with you on your motorcycle?”

“That would be never,” he clipped out.

“I don’t understand why. I’ve seen Jace ride around with girls more than a coupleof times.” I countered.

“I don’t care; it’s not you on the back. I could never handle the idea of you getting hurt.”

I lifted up so I could kiss him on the neck and he groaned. He slid his hand in between us and he started running his fingers across my most intimate area. The spandex shorts didn’t allow much of barrier from his quick strokes. I leaned back with my eyes closed and placed my hands on his legs to brace myself. Right as he had begun working me up to a fever pitch he seemed to realize where we were and he pulled his hand back. My eyes snapped open with my frustration.

“Okay, I seriously have to get you out of my lap. If you don’t, we’re going to get in trouble for public indecency and then some.” I moved off with a groan to sit next to him and my hand trailed down past his, the one that had just been stroking me.

“If you want me to hold your hand, all you have to do is ask.” He winked at me.

“Uh… no I don’t hold hands.” I brought mine back to my lap.

He reached over and squeezed my hand into his, “Let’s head back.”

“Good, I’m starving.” I stood up and started stretching out my legs and dusting the sand off of me. “Do you want to race back?”

“Sure, I’ll smoke you and it won’t be fair, but I’m a guy so I love competition.” He grinned while trying to reach behind him and get the sand off his back.

“Always so cocky. I think you should at least give me a couple of second’s head start, seeing as I’m not an all-star athlete.” I beamed at him.

He grabbed me into his chest and bent my head back so I was looking directly up at him. My chin was against his chest and he ran his hands over my hair. “For you, Beautiful, I’ll give you a whole minute.”

“Okay, first one home wins?” I asked and he nodded his head, looking down at me. I turned around, moved out of his arms, and started jogging. I looked back at him and yelled, “Loser can’t have sex for two weeks!” I saw his mouth drop open.

“Game on!” he hollered back with an arrogant smirk.

I was pretty positive I knew how Jaxon would run home. Our apartment was basically a straight shot to the east and then you had to cut north a bit from the beach with the university in between. So it would be a given that he’ll take thatroute. But I know of an alley street that runs at an angle, which shaves off time. I knew without a doubt he was faster than I was, but if I had less of a distance, then hopefully I could win.

As I was running, I could see down the sides of each house onto the main street and so far no sign of Jaxon. I reached the apartments and took the stairs two at a time. Once I turned down our hallway, I darted for our doors. Quinn was coming down the opposite way and she leaned up against the wall, looking at me with confusion.
