Savage Love (Back Down Devil MC #7)(49)

“And we trust you why?” Nate asked.

“You don’t,” Lenny said. “You have no reason to. We’ve lied to you. We’ve fought. We’ve tried to kill you. But with that all in the past, we know what’s at stake. If Jerry succeeds at hurting your club, he’ll hurt our club. He’ll use the drug deal as a way to cut into us deep.”

“You’re afraid,” Blaine said. “Big motherf*ckers like you and you’re afraid.”

“Yeah, we are,” Cres said. “Want to know why?”

“We know why,” Miller said with a grin.

“No,” Lenny said.

He nodded to Cres again.

Cres rushed to a door and opened it. “Wheel him out!”

Miller slowly reached for his gun, just in case.

Two other Coast Road MC guys wheeled out Mutty, the VP of the MC. He was sitting on a weight bench, pale, his eyes bloodshot, a purple ring around them. He was shaking and looked more than half dead. There was blood all over his shirt, his hands, his feet just dragging on the floor.

“This is what Jerry did,” Lenny said.

“What?” Miller asked.

“He got Mutty alone. He met us to find out if we were able to bomb your compound. That’s why our guy was there. You caught him, killed him. Fair enough. Jerry lost his mind when we told him the operation went south. He called the deal off. Then he left. We got a call a little bit later he needed help. He wanted Mutty to meet because he was with Gaige. We were going to kill Gaige.”

“Thanks,” Gaige said.

“Fuckers,” Nate growled and pushed forward.

“Hey, hey,” Blaine said, grabbing Nate. “Calm, breathe. Think about Mia’s sweet * in your mouth…”

“There was nobody there,” Lenny said.

Mutty groaned and rolled his neck.

“Feed him,” Cres ordered.

One of the guys behind Mutty pulled out a needle and stuck it in his arm.

“Morphine,” Lenny said. “Trying to keep him calm.”

“Yeah, he looks calm,” Miller said.

“Jerry shot him in the back,” Lenny said. “Broke his spine. Mutty can’t walk ever again. Then he stabbed him in the gut a few times. And then he cut out Mutty’s tongue.”

“Holy shit,” Gaige said.

“Show them,” Lenny said.

Cres grabbed Mutty’s mouth and squeezed. When Mutty’s mouth opened, Miller turned his head.

“Fuck,” he whispered.

“Yeah,” Lenny said. “That’s what Jerry did. He stapled a note to Mutty’s chest. Basically said the deal was off for good and that he would come for us soon. Taking Mutty’s tongue was a way to warn us not to talk.”

“Yet here we are, talking,” Miller said.

“I want that f*cker dead,” Lenny said.

“We all do,” Blaine said.

“We know you can do it,” Cres said. “So this is our peace offering, for now. The second Jerry is dead, our war is back on. For now, we’ll hang back. Stick to the water, the beach, the wonderful tourist * that rolls through.”

“Okay,” Miller said. “We don’t trust you. We never will trust you.”

“I get that,” Lenny said. “So let me up my offering a little.” Lenny took out a gun.

Everyone jumped back. Blaine grabbed Miller and threw him back even more, making sure he was in front of the President.

“Goddammit,” Miller growled. He took out his gun and knocked Blaine away. “Let them f*cking kill me!”

“I’m not killing anyone,” Lenny said. He turned the gun and offered it to Miller. “You are.”

“What are you talking about?” Miller asked.

“Shoot Mutty,” Lenny said. “Put him out of his misery.”

“You’re f*cking kidding,” Gaige said.

“No,” Lenny said. “I can’t do it. I can’t kill my own brother. He’ll go with honor to die by an enemies bullet.”

“I’m not touching your f*cking gun,” Miller said. “No fingerprints.”

Lenny put his gun away. “Fine.”

Miller lifted his gun.

“Wait,” Cres said. “Remember what we said. This isn’t a truce. It’s an offering. Jerry has to die.”

“Trust me,” Miller said. “That piece of shit won’t be around much longer.”

“Because if…”

Miller pulled the trigger.

Mutty’s head bounced and he was dead.

The gunshot echoed in the large room. It was then followed by silence. The Coast Road MC guys stared at their deceased VP.

“Come on,” Miller said.

He led the way out and back to the motorcycles. His heart was pounding. Jerry was cutting ties and ready to make his final stand.

“Now what?” Blaine asked.

Miller grinned. “I have to go get ready. I have a hot date tonight.”

eighteen.

“He’s going to be fine.”

Ella forced a nod and watched as Ava rolled up a messy diaper. She lifted Beck from the bathroom floor and gently put him down in the bath water. Beck instantly started to splash - something he loved to do in the water - which told Ella the water wasn’t either too hot or too cold.
