Falling Down(39)

Since we're done filming, we're staying at the house in Santa Monica due to the paparazzi. I know it's stupid to be going out with Jesse tonight, but I'm not going to be a prisoner. Yes, they're going to jump to conclusions because we were just seen together and will be again tonight. I shrug. I don't care. Nothing they print about me or say about me on the internet is true anyway. Okay, that's not true either. Maybe ten percent is true.
I'm putting on the finishing touches of my makeup when Sera walks in.
"Tonight's the big date, huh?"
I raise a brow. "How did you know that?"
She rolls her eyes. "We all know about it. It's not like Jesse's keeping it a secret. Are you trying to?"
She reaches for my curling iron and starts working on my hair.
"No, I'm not trying to. I just… I'm trying to keep it low-key. We've already got paparazzi following us, blocking us from our home. I'd rather they didn't get wind of this before we get wherever Jesse is taking me."
"I can understand that. Are you ready for a night with Jesse Kingston?"
I can't help but grin. "I'm nervous and excited at the same time. I mean, sex is obviously in the plans for tonight--it is Jesse after all."
Sera nods. "Are you going to be okay knowing Jesse doesn't do relationships?"
"I'm good with that. I've mentally prepared. Done some mind voodoo."
Sera grins. "You're so weird. I can't believe you still believe Grandma Russo's able to put hexes on people."
"She can! Didn't you see when she put the juju on Norman Brown? His hair fell out! Eyebrows, eyelashes, head, chest, arms, legs… all of it!"
"He was in his seventies, Luce."
"Yeah, but all the hair on his body was gone in a matter of hours! That is not age. That is Nana Russo's juju. I'm telling you."
"According to Nana, that stuff doesn't work if you do it on yourself."
"It can't hurt to try. If it fails and Jesse pisses me off or hurts me somehow, I'll make a voodoo doll and use it as my new pin cushion."
"You don't use pins for anything."
"I'll take up needlepoint."
Sera laughs. "Okay, okay. You're covered with your side of birth control, right?"
"Yep. I got the shot two months ago. I have an alarm set on my phone for my appointment with Dr. Brickner for next month." Not that I'll be needing it for probably another year after this sexcapade with Jesse.
"Good. Monday is when we meet some of the people the guys lined up for Blush."
"Yeah. I'm anxious to get started."
"Are we going to use the song?"
"Oh. I don't know. I'm sure it'll be fine if we do. Jesse won't be around while we record or tour so it won't be an issue. He may hear it on the radio or something if we get that lucky."
The song. After I met Jesse six years ago, I wrote a song about him and our chance meeting. If he heard it, he'd know it was about him.
Sera nods. "Hair's done."
"No spray."
"Okay."
"I want to keep it light and airy that way it won't stick to my head when we have sex."
"Ah, good thinking. Did you pack a bag?"
"Do you think I should?"
Sera shrugs. "I don't know. I'd ask Jesse though. You never know what he's got planned."
"True. Ugh. I don't want to ask him that. He'll know I'm anticipating spending the night with him."
Sera laughs. "He already knows that, I'm sure."
"And he may not want me to sleep over."
"Please. He knows who you are and what you're about. He knows a sleepover is going to happen."
