Seducing Texas (So not Prince Charming #2)(65)
“I don’t want you out of my sight until this is over,” Shane says, shadowing me and guiding me to the elevator.
“I understand, but what do I do about Willa? She has to go to school.”
As we drive out of the parking garage, an Escalade sits across the street. Shane calls the fed, but it’ll be gone by the time Timmons gets down to this level. It drives away as we do, following us, so I clutch onto my gun and sit closer to Shane, hoping they aren’t trailing Willa too.
Chapter Shane
Aedan is taking Willa to the library while Cyn and I go into the office. Willa needs to study, and Aedan is researching the documentary he wants to film. I want to search through the files to see what Jeremy found and was killed for. Damn. He shouldn’t have had to die. He felt guilty over the security breach, so he was putting in overtime to resolve the issues.
When we get into the office, I lock the doors behind me since it’s Sunday. Cyn works on her laptop on the extra desk in my office. I don’t want her far from me. I can’t f*cking lose her.
The feds only cordoned off the server room, so I rebuild the servers in a spare office and crank the AC in the room for the short term. I called in Sri and one other lead to help me. They weren’t happy about it. Once I get them started, I leave them to it.
I’ll switch all the network traffic at noon to the rebuilt servers, so the feds can scour the servers.
In my office, I run through the files and find what I think Jeremy stumbled upon. “Hey.”
“What’s up?” she asks.
I turn her chin, so I can kiss her. “Besides you distracting me?”
My princess smiles seductively. Sex has gotten us over a lot of rough patches. “That’s my job.” She leans on me to see my monitor, and I smell the spicy fragrance of the only woman I want to be with.
“Jeremy tracked the opened port data loss. It goes to Zhejiang province where Wong’s factories are.” I send it to Timmons for him to track down the exact address. “We’ll see what the feds come up with.”
I kiss my princess roughly on the lips, slipping my tongue into her mouth. “Want to f*ck on the desk?”
She pushes my papers and keyboard out of the way. “What do you think?”
“Are you going to marry me? I may have to put a condition on servicing you.”
Sadness flashes in those beautiful dark eyes. “I love you. We’re going to have to figure out how to keep Willa in school and be together.”
I can’t stop loving or f*cking her. “I guess that’s good enough. For now.”
My lips find hers, and the temperature in the room rises. My cock stirs in my jeans. When it comes to my princess, it has a mind of its own.
My cell rings, and I pull it from my pocket to toss it on the desk. I only want to concentrate on her. The call can wait.
Cyn cocks her head to see my phone. “Shane? Why is Lindsey calling you? Is she still at your condo?”
Fuck. My hand was halfway up her shirt—her soft, tender breast within reach. My heart rate has already spiked, and my cock has steeled for her. “Yeah. I meant to call her mom, so I could move them back out.”
“Maybe you should get that.”
“Lindsey.” I answer the phone. Why the hell would she call me? Maybe something broke at my condo. “What’s up?”
“Someone took Remy?”
What the f*ck? I jerk upright from the desk, holding Cyn, so she doesn’t fall. Why would anyone take her little boy? “Did you call the police?”
She’s sobbing into the phone. “No, the note said if I did, they’d kill him. What am I going to do, Shane? They said if you turn over some drive, they wouldn’t kill him. Do you know what they’re talking about?”
The Chinese want Cyn’s information. They have to know she made copies, and they’re scattered all over.
I promise to be there shortly and to meet with the kidnappers. My heart breaks at the thought of Remy being kidnapped and hurt. He’s alone and afraid, so I have to help him. Despite all our issues, I feel for Lindsey. If someone took my child, I’d kill him.
“You can’t go without me,” Cyn argues.
I couldn’t bear to see her die, and we had this conversation in Alaska. “No. I’ll call Timmons, but I’m going. I can’t wait.”
Her head lies on my shoulder. “No. It’s not worth it. They’re setting you up to kill you.” Her tears soak my shirt.
“I stole back 150 mil from them. They’re pissed, but they won’t kill me until they get it back. Juarez said the Chinese were hurting.”
Her hands ball up my shirt. “I can’t let you go alone.”
“Don’t make this any harder, princess. Make sure Timmons is going to my condo. The feds can pick up the trail.”
“That man couldn’t find his way out of a paper bag.”
She pouts or maybe she’s scheming all the way to her house. I drop Cyn off at her home, and I drive away, thinking this may be the last time I see her.
I head to my condo to talk to Lindsey. The kidnappers left a note for her that states where to meet them. I don’t unload my gun and leave a backup in my truck.
I go into my condo through the garage and walk up the stairs. Using the key, I enter. Lindsey is sitting on my leather couch, sobbing.
