Seducing Texas (So not Prince Charming #2)(61)
“Aedan will look after her.” I’m getting more pissed. “Do you love me?”
“Yes. I love you. Shane.” She crinkles her brow. “I worry about Willa. I don’t think she’s gotten over what happened in Mexico. It should’ve been me. She hasn’t been the same, and I don’t know what to do. I will go to Alaska with you, but I can’t just leave my sister, not yet.”
Killing her uncle and his son has robbed Willa of her innocence. She was sweet, and now, she’s different, unsure and no longer focused on her studies, like she used to be.
“If you’re worried, text her,” I say.
Cyn does and then folds into my arms. A response fires back, and we read it together. “I’m with Aedan. Stop worrying.”
“I can’t,” Cyn says. “I feel like I’m all she has.”
I would say she has Fay, but they don’t get along as well as they should. It’s better than it was though.
“Do you want to marry me or not?” I ask, feeling more pissed.
“I do, but I can’t leave Willa here alone. She has a scholarship at Stu’s.”
“She’s smart enough to get one anywhere, and besides it’s only summers in Alaska.” I’ve lowered myself to begging.
“I don’t want to be with anyone else. I just need to figure a few things out, and you have to deal with the Chinese.”
“So that not a no?” Anger adds to the ache in my side. “We can forget about them and move.”
Her soft fingers glide down my chest. “I won’t let you get away if that’s what you’re worried about.”
“I just want you,” I say, pulling her closer.
“Shane, let’s talk about something else.”
I don’t want to. I want to marry Cyn.
“Thank you for saving Willa tonight.” she says. “I don’t know what I’d do without you.”
“You won’t even marry me,” I grumble. I won’t let her off the hook.
I hand her a towel to clean up, and before long I doze off. My phone startles me out of a dead sleep.
“Who is it?” Cyn asks, yawning.
I glance at the alert on my phone. “Someone broke into Red Sky.”
Chapter Willa
Aedan helps me into his truck, worry engrained into his brow. “The owner Chang Wong must’ve set your family up.”
“Shane said Chang was one of his business acquaintances, but maybe it’s a coincidence,” I say.
“I don’t think it is. Wong tried to hurt you.”
When the bull stared me down, I literally froze to the ground. My feet wouldn’t budge. I was so terrified. I hold onto Aedan so tightly I dig holes into his muscular arms with my nails.
When we get to his apartment, he fixes me tea when I really want a shot of strong liquor. The little rat of a dog jumps up on me, and Aedan shoos it away.
“Where’s Caitlin?” I ask.
Aedan pulls me onto his lap, sloshing my tea. He doesn’t seem to mind the mess. “At her boyfriend’s. She won’t be home tonight.”
I set my tea down to kiss his lush lips. He hasn’t shaved, and his sterling blue eyes have that black Irish glint. My lips slam into his, and at first he returns my kiss with the same ferocity.
His touch turns gentle. His fingers travel the length of my arm, scorching and tingling the skin.
My life could be over in a blink of an eye, and I could die a virgin, not knowing the feel of Aedan inside me. I don’t want that.
I push him back on the couch.
“Whoa,” he says. “Yer almost brother-in-law would not like me taking advantage of yer in such a vulnerable moment. In fact, he’d probably kill me.”
I don’t stop my assault. I shrug off my tee to expose a black striped lacy bra. My breasts heave against the thin fabric. I wore it for him.
His breath halts in his chest, and his eyes pop out in adoration. He finally catches his breath, his gaze lingering on my breasts rising from my panting breaths.
“Holy Mary Mother of Jesus,” he pushes out in one breath.
“Touch me,” I urge.
His tongue fondles the shell of my ear. “If we’re going to do this, then we’ll do it right. I don’t want you to ever forget me, and I want to make this good enough that I’m your last.”
His words melt my heart. Could he possibly fall in love with a dork like me? My sisters are mesmerizingly beautiful. I’m the stupid smart one.
“Do you mean that?” A tear crests my eyes, and I feel suddenly vulnerable and open to him.
“Yes. I don’t want you to date anyone else. If we’re shagging, then you can’t be with anyone else and same for me.”
“Are you sure?”
His lips claim my mouth, and he brushes back my hair. “More than I’ve ever been.”
“I don’t want to die,” I whimper. It scares the hell out of me that we’re not done with drug dealers. My father is one. We’ll never be free. “Cyn is brave. She doesn’t get all excited. She keeps her head. I can’t do that.”
His fingers pull down the strap of my bra to kiss my shoulder. “You got away from the drug lord. You’ll survive this. Shane seems like a capable man.”
