Seducing Texas (So not Prince Charming #2)(64)

Without lowering his gun, he tugs me into him. “You’re making my dick hard, princess.”

He’s so inappropriate. I love it. “What do you think is making that noise?”

“Don’t know, but we’ll soon find out.” Shane skulks over to one of the low cabinets where the electrical cables and switch boxes are hidden.

He slowly opens the cabinet, his gun cocked and ready. When he opens it, a blood-curdling scream comes from the inside.

We both jump back. Sonia is curled up inside, tears streaking her once perfect makeup. Her hands cover her face. If she’s the insider, she’ll be fired. Score.

“Don’t hurt me,” she cries.

“What the f*ck are you doing in here?” Shane barks out.

“I thought…” She looks at me and scowls, and I consider slugging her. She crawls out of the cabinet.

“Oh God.” Seeing Jeremy, she bursts into tears and throws her arms around Shane, despite the fact he’s holding a gun.

“No,” she cries. “Not Jeremy.”

Shane pushes her off and gives her a good shake. I’d like to throttle her. “Why were you in here?” he demands.

“I know you come in the server room before you leave, but then Jeremy came into the room, so I hid.”

“What happened?” Shane asks. Smacking her sounds like a better plan.

“Jeremy came in and then he worked until late. I was getting all cramped and thought I should just expose myself,” she whines. “I didn’t know what to do and then Tang came in to see what Jeremy was working on. Jeremy said he found something on an opened port, and that the IP addresses were somewhere. Tang hit him over the head with something and then he strung him up. Several other Asian men came into the room a half hour later.”

They must’ve tripped the alarm.

“Did you see them?” I ask, pissed that she’s stalking my man.

Now, her arms snake around Shane’s neck. “I’m so scared. I knew you’d come.”

Shane removes her arms. “Did you see them?”

“No. I kept the door closed when they entered. I thought they would kill me too. I’ve been stuck in here since then. I thought you’d never come.”

Oh brother. We should leave her in the cabinets permanently.

Shane closes his eyes. “Are you sure it was Tang?”

Sonia sobs. “Yes. I can’t believe he killed Jeremy.”

He trusted Tang. He worked for him at his last company, which gives him perfect access. Tang must be working for the Chinese. He is here on a visa.

“I should go home,” Sonia says, smiling coyly, “unless you want me to stay.”

“The cops will want to talk to you,” Shane says.

There’s a hard rap at the front door.

Shane gives her a wary look. “I’ll be back in a minute, Cyn. Keep an eye on her.”

“I don’t need to be watched,” Sonia complains. “I should come with you.”

I fold my arms across my chest. “Yes, you need to be babysat.”

The cops and Agent Timmons roll into the server room. A police officer immediately takes Sonia away from the scene, and the crime lab goes right to work.

“We may need to confiscate your servers,” Agent Timmons says.

“Oh hell no,” Shane says. “You’re not putting me out of business. I need the money.”

Timmons stands rigidly. “It’s a crime scene now.”

Shane gets right in his face. “It was before. We have daily backups. You can troll through them. One of my employees is involved.”

“Who?” Timmons asks.

“Tang. He’s my best programmer.”

That sucks. I know Shane liked him.

“How do you know it wasn’t Sonia that killed Jeremy?” Timmons asks.

I laugh. “She overtook Jeremy and then lifted his body to hang him? By the way, my lawyer made a deal, so the drive should be turned over on Monday.”

“Chang Wong owns the studio that’s filming Cyn’s family,” Shane adds. “He told the director to let Willa work with the clowns, and she was almost killed. You have to know that.” Irritation flicks in Shane’s forest green eyes.

Timmons scratches his chin, like he’s thinking. He looks like he’s holding something back, which he’s been doing all along.

“What aren’t you telling us?” I ask. “You need to tell us. A bull gored Shane and almost killed my little sister.”

Timmons finally looks us in the eyes. “We’ve been looking into his shell corporations being used to launder money. The DEA has been keeping tabs on them for drug trafficking.”

Great. He’s known all along. Dickhead. He’s going to get us killed.

“We should go home and get some sleep before tomorrow,” I say. “I have to finish the books and we should figure out what Jeremy found.”

Shane slings his arm around my shoulders. He could swallow me in his embrace, and I couldn’t ask for a better man. Now I have to figure out how to marry him, make him happy, and be there for Willa.

“If the police take my servers, I need to rebuild them and get them online,” Shane says.

I can’t do that for him. “Call some of your employees and we’ll work on it in the morning.”
