Wild Chance (Wild Irish Universe)(5)
“On point.”
“I’m going in!”
Esme giggled.
With a deep breath, Mona rose, tugged her dress down and smoothed her hands over her hair. As she kept her eyes on the man, she adjusted her boobs for maximum effect, straightened her spine and exhaled. As she approached him, the man on the barstool closest to him climbed off and left. She quickly hopped on and waved to the bartender. Mona swiped her tongue over her teeth just in case there was some lipstick on them, before turning to speak to him over one shoulder.
“Can I buy you a drink?” She asked.
He smiled. “That really isn’t necessary.”
“I see.” Mona nodded. She couldn’t miss the slight Irish accent that came through when he spoke. Yup, that accent made her hot. “Macho man who thinks it isn’t a woman’s place to buy a man a drink, is that it?”
His other-worldly green eyes danced mischievously at her as he smiled. “That’s not it...”
“Mona.” She told him.
“Right. Mona.” He tilted his head and stepped in a little closer. “I’m on duty. I shouldn’t be drinking.”
“Oh.” Mona’s cheeks flared fire. “Oh Jesus. You’re working. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to…”
“It’s all right. Actually, a woman has never offered to buy me a drink before. I’m not entirely sure if I should be stunned or flattered.”
“I’d go with flattered.” Mona crinkled her nose at him. “I’m never this forward.”
He laughed softly while nodding. “Well, then, Mona. I’m very flattered. Thank you. Can I make you a deal?”
“Sure.”
“How about tonight, I buy you a drink and tomorrow night you return the favor?”
Mona chewed on her bottom lip. He was close enough now for her to smell him and lord have mercy—his cologne was intoxicating. She pressed her thighs closer together and nodded while trying desperately to pry her tongue off the roof of her mouth.
“Is that your way of asking me out, then?”
He smirked. “Isn’t it obvious?”
“And who would I be making this deal with?” Mona managed.
“Aedan.” He extended a hand. “Aedan Callahan.”
She trembled—the accent was definitely there.
Without hesitation, Mona set her fingers in his outstretched hand. He lifted the back of her wrist to his lips for a light kiss before releasing her. She quivered in places she thought had died years ago from the lack of a man’s—well, anything.
“You’ve got yourself a deal, Aedan.”
“What’re you drinking?”
“Guinness.”
He smirked then walked behind the bar. She watched as he walked with a slight limp and wondered if he had been in an accident or had a sprained ankle. Maybe she could offer to be his nurse until he was healed.
Mona grinned like a teenager.
When he returned, it was with two Guinness and she wasn’t sure why.
“I see you’re with a friend,” he said. “I can’t very well leave her out, now can I?”
Mona winked at him. “I’ll meet you here tomorrow—say, eight?”
“It’s a date.”
She accepted the drinks from him and turned to climb off her stool but stopped. “You know, I thought for sure you were one of the Collins.”
“Not all of us can be that lucky.” Aedan smiled. “I’ll see you tomorrow.”
“You bet.”
As she walked away, Mona glanced over her shoulder to see he was staring after her. The woman at the bar was speaking but he merely smiled at her and only looked away when the bartender tapped his shoulder. Back at her table, she set one of the bottles in front of Esme who was brimming with anticipated excitement.
“So?”
“I couldn’t buy him a drink because he’s working.” Mona reported. “But! But, he bought me a drink—well us—a drink and we have a thing tomorrow, here so I can buy him one.”
Esme flailed. “You go girl!”
“Isn’t he sexy?” Mona glanced back but Aedan was nowhere to be seen. “And his eyes—oh good lord, his eyes!”
“What colour?”
She looked at Esme and sighed. “They’re the greenest I’ve ever seen. How is that even possible?”
“Girl, you better look all kinds of hot tomorrow.”
Mona giggled. “I was thinking of that hip hugging black dress with my pleather jacket.”
“Oh! And you have those beautiful green earrings with the necklace—use those. They would definitely tell him something.”
Mona gasped. “They match his eyes!”
The two women high-fived each other then laughed.
“See? Wasn’t it a good idea we came out tonight?” Esme asked.
“It was a great idea,” Mona admitted.
“Woo! Now, come dance with me!” Esme said rising and taking Mona’s hand. “You owe me a dance.”
Mona giggled but allowed herself to be taken out of her seat to slow dance with Esme. “You’re very embarrassing.”
“But you adore me.”
“I admit nothing.”
