Reckless Souls (Saints Academy, #1)(90)

where we pull our magic from?”

Zen inches closer, his knuckles brushing against mine he’s that close, as Harmonia smiles wide

and answers Athena’s question confidently. “Either from the earth, water, air, or fire.”

“That’s correct. Angels can pull magic from one of the elements, or multiple, but it’s also what

makes us the most compassionate species. We’re softer, calmer, and more caring than the others, but

we shouldn’t be overlooked, because we are just as fierce when angry. Am I right?”

The group chuckles as I feel Zen lean in even closer. After we overheard the conversation

yesterday, I slipped from between his fingers and didn’t look back, but it seems now I have no way

out. I should have known it was coming. If Zen is anything, he’s persistent.

“Would you agree, firecracker? Or are you going to run off again before you can find out?” he

whispers against my ear, making me shiver.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” I murmur, not turning to glance at him as I spy Harmonia

looking between the two of us with a grin. She loves watching me fight my truth about the Elites.

Maybe it’s denial, but it’s comforting right now and it’s the only thing I seem to have control over.

“You don’t? I told you what would help settle the tension and you ran. Do I have to run damage

control alone, or are you willing to cooperate?” he asks, his fingers grazing my waist as he somehow

manages to inch even closer.

What on earth is he actually talking about?

This class has been a complete information overload, and this is toppling me over the edge. If

anything, I thought he would be the calmest of the four of them, but right now, that seems to be Adonis.

Who would have thought?

I have a vampire laying claim to me so that no one takes my blood, which I won’t argue against,

but what the fuck?

A werewolf telling me he will only ever have one mate, after sealing souls with me.

An incubus happy to use me to recharge his powers when they come into effect. Public or not.

And an angel who… is not calm and collected right now like I expected him to be.

Turning to face Zen, my brain mush from the past hour of revelations, I find a determined look in

his eyes as he peers into mine, seemingly touching my soul with his gaze. I squint at him, a hint of

confusion burning under my skin.

“Actions first, explanations after,” he says, almost like a promise as his breath blows over my

lips, and in the next second, his lips touch mine.

Chapter 26

Zen

H er lips mold to mine perfectly, her eyes fluttering closed as she gives into the kiss, any

objection that was about to fall from her mouth cut short.

It’s not how I expected our first intimate moment to be as I brought my lips to hers, but she

left me no choice, and I had to do something to rectify the situation. Hopefully now, after this, she will

damn well listen while I explain my actions.

Rhea’s body tilts toward mine, facing me head on as I run my tongue over her parted lips, my hand

falling to her waist as I pull her closer, my throbbing cock nestling against her stomach.

I kissed her because someone was watching our interaction and I had to move fast, but now, it’s

like no one is in this room, fuck, no one in the universe exists except us.

Her mouth is an addiction alone, I can’t imagine what the rest of her body would do to me.

Teasing my lips against hers slower now, I cup her jaw, tilting her head to the perfect angle to

deepen the kiss, when Professor Fury interrupts us, clearing his throat loudly enough to wake the

dead. I apply pressure once more before I reluctantly force my mouth from hers.

Panting for breath, I watch as she does the same. With rosy cheeks and a heaving chest, Rhea’s

eyes slowly blink open, her lashes flutter as she withdraws out of a daze, before her bright blue orbs

peer up at me.

A pleased smile uncontrollably takes over my face as I look down at her, my mind sure I did the

right thing, when she seems to realize where we are and takes a step back. I let her, dropping my

hands to my sides as she folds her arms over her chest in an act of total disbelief. But she’s not

embarrassed at having the attention of everyone in the room.

“What the fuck, Zen?” she whisper-yells under her breath, glancing at the group from the corner of

her eyes, but I don’t stray my eyes from her, not even when Professor Fury finally opens his mouth.

“Care to keep public displays out of my classroom, Miss Harrington?” he grumbles, Rhea’s

cheeks tinting deeper as I bite back a smirk. “You know what? We’re done for the day. You’re all

dismissed. Get out,” he barks, his words angry and choppy as his disapproving tone fills the room.

Thank the Gods.

Now I can take Rhea somewhere private and explain myself, but before I can even mutter a single

word, she takes off. I stand and watch in surprise as her feet carry her toward the door, mingling

between the students who are all more than happy about an early finish. She manages to grab her
