Reckless Souls (Saints Academy, #1)(89)

As we approach the Gods group, we find Sky in the middle of answering a question, and she

doesn’t falter or bother to acknowledge our arrival as she offers the group her full attention. I don’t

know what it is about her, but she always gives off a badass, confident vibe, and I’m here for it. The

supernatural world of Paradise Heights feels daunting to me. Maybe that’s because I arrived twenty-

two years late and she simply takes it all in stride. Like she was born for this.

“Every God, no matter which line of descendants they are from, pulls an endless supply of power

from within themselves. We don’t require replenishing, we can never lose our powers, we are rare as

I’m sure you can see, our group is much smaller than the others,” she says with a smile before flicking

her gaze over to the demon group. “The only member of the school here today that is a direct

descendant of a God is Adonis. Child of Persephone and Hades, who, because of his lineage, will

flourish at the top of the demon's power structure,” she says, almost in awe as she eyes him.

My body jolts with a surprising burst of anger, unhappy that she’s looking at him, but I bite my

tongue, the taste of copper evident in my mouth. He’s not mine. It’s not my concern, but why the fuck

am I mad about it?

He literally is the child of Hades and Persephone.

Hades and fucking Persephone.

What the fuck?

No wonder he’s an Elite with half of the student population dancing around him, never mind the

fact that he’ll grow into his incubus powers and fucking glow with strength under all of the sexual

tension he creates.

My Gods.

Literally.

Finally turning her glance to Professor Fury and me, Sky offers us a dismissive tight smile.

“Really, Professor? I think it’s almost irrelevant for her to be present here. If she was a God, she

wouldn’t have been living among the earthlings for so many years,” she states blindly, instantly

making my back stiffen.

Her clear sneer at me, and the use of that damn fucking nickname pisses me off.

I’m prepared for Fury to nod in agreement and shuffle me along, but to my surprise he quirks an

eyebrow at her. “This is my class, Sky, you’ll do well to remember that,” he retorts, folding his arms

over his chest in challenge as he nods for her to continue.

With a pout of her lips and a roll of her eyes, she turns her back to us and continues to address the

group.

And to think I thought this bitch was cool a minute ago. Is she related to Selene? She has that

supreme bitch vibe about her. Speaking of the cunt, I spy her in my peripheral vision with a grin on

her lips as she nods along with Sky as she speaks.

“As rare as we may be, there’s a hierarchy among the Gods which exceeds all else. Zeus, our

gracious leader, who you will begin to spend more time with as you come into your third year, sits at

the top.” The pride in her voice is sickening, but it’s intriguing to learn that they actually spend time

with members of the Hex the closer they get to leaving the Academy. “He earned his rightful place

overseeing the Hex and the Gods when he brought the Goddess Nyx to her knees, wiping the darkness

away with her and all of her descendants.”

“Her descendants?” someone asks, a frown on their face matching mine, and Sky gleams with

pride as she turns to answer her.

“Yes. Her descendants. We couldn’t have her children remaining when she left. The risk of them

manifesting the same powers and bringing the darkness back was too high of a risk,” she states

casually, like she’s explaining why rain is… wet.

But what she doesn’t realize is she’s just added another piece to the puzzle of what Zen and I

heard yesterday in the office.

The darkness is coming. Again.

Does that link to what she’s saying?

My gaze moves to Zen’s on instinct, my brain considering whether I should mention it to him or

not, but I don’t truly know how much I can lean on him, or any of them for that matter. Maybe I need to

catch Harmonia up on the gossip swarming the staff at the moment.

“Come,” Fury grunts, turning his back to the Gods as he trudges away, and I reluctantly follow. I

want to stay and learn more about what she’s saying, even though she's a bitch.

His long legs cut the distance to the angels quicker than I expect, and I have to rush to keep up,

avoiding Adonis’ smirk again as we head for the far right of the room, only to have Zen shuffle to my

side the moment I stop at the edge of their circle. I literally can’t escape them.

The woman in the middle of the group offers me a gentle smile as I approach, but my focus is on

the hot blonde beside me with his hazel eyes trying to search mine.

“Thank you for joining us, my name is Athena. We were just discussing where angels pull their

magic from,” she says directly to me before turning back to the group. “I know we just mentioned it,

but to recap and make sure you were all listening,” she says with a soft chuckle, “Can you tell me
