Reckless Souls (Saints Academy, #1)(49)
It’s confusing, seeing us like this, all twisted up over a girl.
None of it makes any sense at all.
“Is there anything you want to do about it?” Zen asks, his question far more complex than the nine
words hint at. He means her as a whole.
Rhea Harrington is more than just the new girl. He’s hinting at Rhea Harrington being an open
interest among us.
My heart pounds twice as fast in my chest, my mind and body flooded with the need to nod
immediately, but I refuse to get my wolf’s hopes up if no one else even agrees.
The thought flits through my mind that everything I’m feeling is because of my wolf and not me,
but the way my gut clenches immediately dismisses the idea.
“That depends on what the entire group has to say,” Khaos says, his eyes piercing the three of us
as he waits for our response, leaning forward and bracing his elbows on the table.
My eyes widen slightly in surprise, watching as he runs his tongue over his bottom lip. He wants
this, wants her. I have no idea what led him into the woods after her on Halloween, but it seems
capturing a little taste of her essence wasn’t enough for the blood hungry asshole across from me.
“I’m in,” I blurt, watching as the others glance at me in surprise.
I lean back in my chair, squeezing my lips together so I can’t say another word without at least
fucking processing them first.
“Good. Me too, there’s just something… about her that makes me want to drain every ounce of her
lust for myself,” Adonis murmurs, his voice dropping an octave or two as he peers across at her.
“Then it’s agreed,” Zen says with a smile, rising to his full height in his seat, making me scoff.
“You say that like she’s even willing to talk to us,” I grumble in response, refusing to get my hopes
up when it looks so bleak in reality. Even when we weren’t trying to pursue her she denied us.
“She might be if no one else is here,” Zen replies, tugging nervously on the collar of his shirt.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Khaos asks, suspicion dancing in his eyes as he searches Zen’s
for an answer.
He casts his gaze to the far corner of the room once more, and I can’t help but follow his line of
sight too, sighing when I watch Rhea rise to her feet with her friends and slowly begin to exit the
dining hall. It must almost be time for the next class to start, but that doesn’t force me to my feet. Even
though I want to chase after her, demand she let us take care of her, even though she doesn’t need us to
right now, I force myself to remain seated, too intrigued by what Zen has to say next.
“It means… she’s the reason we’re staying at Christmas.”
Well, fuck.
Chapter 15
Rhea
I step through the portal leading from Agion hall to the Academy building, but when I reach the
bottom of the grand staircase, I opt to head outside for a minute before I go to the dining hall. A
minute of peace and some fresh air was needed.
The moment I do, the sun beats down on my face, a gentle breeze swaying the trees that frame the
pathway, and I remember the day I arrived. How foreign it all looked, and even now it still feels
strange. I guess it’s because I lock myself away in my room a lot, instead of making the most of the
outdoors.
Once Christmas is over and we’re heading into the new year, I’m going to make it my New Year's
resolution. To be outside more. All this portal business makes traveling from one place to another
really easy, but it also makes me lazy since it completely strips away enjoying the beautiful, scenic
journey.
Turning on my heel I head back inside, expecting the usual hustle and bustle, but there’s not a soul
in sight, and I relish in the moment of reprieve.
Everyone left for the Christmas break yesterday evening. So for the first time since I arrived, the
hallways are quiet, and I’m not checking over my shoulder for some supreme bitch and her cowardly
friends to come at me.
My stomach grumbles, making me pick up speed and head toward the dining hall as my mind
drifts to the past few weeks since I was attacked.
Very little has happened, because I’ve acted how my attackers wanted me to, which is annoying as
fuck since I really haven’t done that on purpose. I’ve just chosen to keep my head down and stay
focused, biding my time before I get my revenge and make them pay for what they did to me. But to
them, I was letting them walk all over me.
All because of the Elites. It’s ridiculous. The four men in question have taken the hint and given
me the space I demanded when they kept attempting to help me carry my bag, escort me anywhere I
wanted to go, or whatever else they reeled off. But that hasn’t stopped me from feeling their gazes or
their movement as soon as they walk into a room, my body highly aware of theirs at any given
moment.
A fun fact Harmonia likes to point out, chuckling under her breath before murmuring about them
looking in my direction.
Any other circumstance and I guess I would be jumping all over them, desperate to find a release,
