Reckless Souls (Saints Academy, #1)(47)
emotional baggage at them. Before I can even question if I unloaded too much, Thalia is the one to
clap her hands this time, matching her sister's usual kind of spirit.
“Oh my Godddds, I want to play fuck, marry, kill,” she announces, my shoulders relaxing at her
change in subject.
“I’m in,” the remainder of us say at once, making me chuckle as I nestle back against the cushions
behind me.
Fuck, if the only thing I gain from Saints Academy is these girls as my friends, then I already
fucking made it.
Chapter 14
Xander
M y lunch appears before me on the table, the sound of the other students in the dining hall
drifting away as I focus on my immediate surroundings. I’m too lost in my own mind today to
even hear the sounds of the clattering plates and cutlery.
Fuck.
I’m quite sure that if a girl lay before me with no clothes on, her pussy on full display and willing
to let me do anything to her, I would still be wearing the same disinterested look on my face as I am
now. Unless it was one girl in particular.
Rhea Harrington.
Treat the new girl like she doesn’t exist.
Sure. That’s what I convinced Adonis and the others to agree to when the woman in question first
made an appearance. The words I said, burning like acid on my tongue.
You really think she’s going to be any different? A girl from Phoenix Valley, likely desperate to
fit in? She’ll cling to anyone and everyone she can, just like she has done with Harmonia.
Hell, it’s like she heard the damn words slip from my mouth and decided to prove me wrong in
every way imaginable. I hate to admit when I’m wrong, but as I sit beside Zen in the dining hall, with
Khaos and Adonis across from us, I can’t stop my gaze from flickering to where she sits in the far
corner of the room, separating herself from everyone except for the three females who’ve welcomed
her.
Harmonia sits across from her, but the twins, Cassandra and Thalia, now join them too. The
moment the pair joined Rhea’s little friendship circle, I was sure it was a ploy to slip in with Khaos,
but again, I was wrong.
I watch as she tucks a piece of her brown hair behind her ear, a small smile gracing her lips as
she looks at Harmonia, who just so happens to glance my way.
Fuck.
I quickly avert my gaze, hating the feeling of being caught, but when I refocus on my closest
friends at my table, my brothers, I realize they too have similar looks on their faces. Even Zen.
It seems I’m not the only one captivated and intrigued by the earthling. None of us are willing to
admit it after the agreement we came to a few weeks ago.
Although, I feel like all that changed after she was attacked, or did it happen before?
She was only attacked because of the Halloween party. I’m sure of it, which indirectly made it our
fault.
Zen was able to pry that piece of information from her, or had her confirm who she thought had
attacked at least, and that’s the only logical conclusion.
Halloween.
When Khaos… well, when he let his natural vampire instincts take control, and I can’t deny how
fucking envious that made me.
Zen clears his throat, cutting off my train of thought so I focus on the food set before me. The
cheeseburger and onion rings look like heaven, but my brain still wills me to look back over at the
mysterious woman who won’t stop infiltrating my mind. No one has ever gained interest from the four
of us, and something in my gut tells me she’s different.
“What did everyone’s parents say about Christmas break?” Zen asks, cutting into the steak on his
plate as he glances around at the rest of us.
“My parents are beyond pissed, but they haven’t forbidden it,” I grumble, taking a bite of my
burger before I continue. My parents aren’t strict, they just have traditions that they like to be
followed. Especially ones that charge the shifter soul within us. The variations of shifters in Paradise
Heights is unreal, so to be the second born child of the Alpha wolf, leader of the Bishop pack, almost
feels anti-climatic. But nonetheless, my parents love to gather alphas, betas, and omegas to share the
love on special holidays. “Just one less body on the puppy cuddle pile, they’ll get over it,” I add with
a shrug, forcing myself not to fall down that rabbit hole in my mind.
“My parents won’t even notice,” Adonis mumbles with a huff, as he does every time his family is
brought up. To have as many siblings as he does, I’m not surprised he was raised by nannies, and as
much as my family’s traditions might annoy the fuck out of me, it still beats the alternative. His
alternative.
My eyes trail to Khaos, waiting for his response, but I find his gaze fixed on Rhea again. Zen must
kick him under the table because the sound of a bang is quickly followed by a grunt from Khaos’ lips,
and a glare thrown his way.
“They weren’t happy, but I gave them some bullshit excuse and it pacified them. Definitely helps
