Forgiving Nancy (Last Hangman MC, #5)(50)

“Callum is right and seriously?” Viv asks.

“Yeah, I had to take blood and DNA tests to prove I’m me. It’s ridiculous.” I sigh.

“Well, at least you’ll have your papers soon.” Ayden grins.

“True, I’m just fed up. It’s all because my parents declared me dead.” I shudder.

“Fuck, that must be weird to know you have a headstone with your name on it,” Line says with a disturbed expression on her face.

“It’s even worse when you see pictures of said headstone.” I frown and finish the rest of my coffee.

“Want me to go put a sledgehammer through it?” Callum asks casually.

“No, I want to be the one to do it.”

“I’ll take you when you’re ready.” He winks at me.

“It’s f*cking awkward to see the way you two interact. I swear there’s something going on,” Ayden says looking between the two of us.

“Nothing’s ever happened between us, no feelings shared either. Don’t go getting any crazy ideas.” I chuckle.

“How do you two know each other then?” Viv asks, sounding as confused as the others look.

“Long story short, I was in a bad place, was offered women for sex, she was one of them, but I couldn’t f*ck her. Instead we talked all night and I kept going back to talk to her every month, happy?” Callum glares at Ayden.

“Fuck I think that’s the longest sentence I’ve ever heard you say.” Ayden looks at Callum in shock.

“Don’t get used to it. Now are we ready to get this over and done with?” He asks and we all nod. Although, I don’t feel ready for this; I have no money and don’t want to owe Callum money when he’s already given me so much. Plus it’s like he would ever let me pay him back so it’ll be forever hanging over my head. He holds my arm back as the girls walk out in front of us. “Bennett asked me to give you this.” I look at him as he hands me a small box.

“What is it?” I ask.

“Typical woman, how about you open it?” he asks sarcastically.

“Alright, keep your panties on.” I snicker and open it to find a beautiful purse inside. “Why a purse? I don’t have any cards or anything.” I frown.

“Look inside maybe?” He groans and sounds exasperated.

“Alright, grumpster.” I look inside and find some cash, a bankcard and, no f*cking way, my brand new ID! I look up at Callum with tears in my eyes and jump into his arms.

“He wanted to surprise you himself but he had things to do,” he tells me as he catches me.

“I can’t believe it!” I shriek in his ears.

“You can and you should. The bankcard is his because you need to go to the bank with him to set up an account in your name.” He smiles at me as he puts me down.

“Okay, seriously, you cannot tell me that you two have never f*cked or at least kissed!” Ayden groans.

“I promise, I just got my ID.” I squeal and bounce on the spot until the rest of the girls join in.

“I’m out of here,” Callum says as he takes a few steps back from our huddle. “Fucking women,” he mutters.

After the excitement of me getting my ID and being in the system again wears off, we head off for some serious retail therapy. I was stupid for dreading going shopping with them. For some reason I thought we’d be going to expensive shops and fancy restaurants but no, we’ve come to the mall instead.

I managed to buy some clothes and shoes and I couldn’t resist getting some sexy lingerie to tease Bennett on Valentine’s Day in a week’s time. We’ve only celebrated it once together, it was perfect but too short because fell on a Monday so we couldn’t spend the night together, but we did make the best of the time we had together. I smile to myself as I remember that day as if it was yesterday as the girls chat.

“Earth to Nancy, are you okay?” Viv asks as she pokes my cheek to grab my attention.

“Yeah, sorry I was lost in my thoughts,” I reply with a sheepish smile on my face.

“No shit Sherlock,” Ayden chuckles.

“What’s on your mind?” Line asks.

“My first and only Valentine’s Day with Bennett.”

“Ohhhhhh spill it woman, we want know everything!” Nicole exclaims before taking a sip of her latte.

“Bearing in mind that my parents hated Bennett and his family and didn’t want me to spend as much as a second in their presence, we had to be sneaky. I told them that I was having a single girl’s night out at the movies with a friend when in reality I was with Bennett. He had everything planned. We went to the park and there was a picnic all laid out for us and we spent the night alternating between, kissing, cuddling and eating. Sadly the evening ended way too quickly, but it was perfect all the same.” I sigh as I remember that night fondly.

“Mine and Ant’s first real date was very similar to that. God, it was much easier back then for us, no worries or responsibilities or f*cked up biker *s coming after us every two seconds,” Ayden says and the girls nod in agreement.

“I miss those days, sure my parents made it difficult, but it was ours. I feel like I was robbed of so much more than just five years.” I sigh.

“I feel you, Hon,” Ayden states whilst patting my hand. “I’ll tell you what happened to me one day. We’ll have to sit with a box of tissues, unlimited amounts of alcohol and at least two boxes of Red Velvet donuts.” She smiles and winks at me.
