Finding Carly (SEAL Team Hawaii #5)(76)
“Good.” Jag hated that she’d had to learn the hard way how important it was to always be aware of her surroundings, but he’d rather she be prepared and ready for anything than be caught unaware.
“Anything in particular you want for dinner?” she asked.
Jag shook his head. “Just you.”
Carly grinned. “I think that can be arranged.”
“Be safe today,” he said again.
“You too.”
“Nothing too dangerous about sitting in a conference room all day,” Jag said wryly.
Carly shrugged. “You never know.”
“True. I love you, angel.”
“Love you too.”
“Text me when you get to Duke’s and when you get home. Please.”
“Of course.” Carly tightened her arms around him, hugging him hard.
Jag put a finger under her chin and tilted her head up, kissing her. It wasn’t a short kiss either. It was a prelude to what was going to happen later that evening. By the time he pulled back, they were both panting.
“I can’t wait to make you mine,” he whispered.
“I already am,” she retorted.
Jag smiled and forced himself to step away. “Have a great day,” he said.
“You too.”
Jag adjusted his erection after his apartment door had shut behind him and took a deep, calming breath. He was ready for tonight. It felt as if he’d waited his entire life for Carly…and he was determined to make sure she knew it.
The man sat in the parking lot of the apartment complex where the bitch was staying. He’d been watching her for weeks, waiting for a chance. He hadn’t minded so much when she’d holed up in her own apartment, because it gave him pleasure to know she was too terrified to leave. Wondering who might still want her dead.
But as time went by, and after she moved in with the fucking boyfriend, she’d gotten more and more confident. She wasn’t scared anymore.
It was time for him to make his move. Had to put all the lessons Shawn had taught him to use. Show Carly that she was nothing. Make her understand that she’d had everything with Shawn, and she’d thrown it away.
Everything was planned, he just had to find the perfect opportunity to grab her. Glancing at his watch, the man scowled. He was going to be late for work…again. His boss wasn’t very happy with him at the moment. His perfect record was thoroughly shot. Another thing to blame Carly for.
He was late so much because he’d been following her. Waiting to strike.
He almost had his chance the other day, when she’d gone to the grocery store by herself, but there had been too many people in the parking lot. Too many witnesses. He needed to get her alone.
A car pulled up to the front entrance of the complex, and the man growled low in his throat. It was that cunt who’d killed Shawn, with the guy her asshole millionaire husband had hired to drive her and the bitch to work in Waikiki.
There was nothing the man could do today, since she’d be surrounded by people at Duke’s. There wouldn’t be an opportunity to snatch her there. And the boyfriend always picked her up. But his time was coming. He had to be patient just a little bit longer.
Once the bitch was in his clutches, she wasn’t getting away. He was too smart; even smarter than Shawn, in some ways. He had everything planned perfectly. Looking down at the bag on the floor of the passenger seat, he smiled. He was ready at all times now. All he needed was one minute, and she was his.
That new boyfriend should be thanking him. She’d ruin his life just like she did Shawn’s. He was doing the world a favor by eliminating her.
“Don’t worry, Shawn. She’s gonna pay for what she did. To you and to me. Mark my words.”
After a happy Carly got into the car and it pulled away, the man turned on his engine and eased out of the parking lot before heading to the interstate. He’d have to come up with another excuse as to why he was late, but he wasn’t concerned.
“Just a little longer,” he murmured as he drove. “This will all be over soon.”
CHAPTER NINETEEN
This had been the longest day ever. Carly was fidgety and impatient and more than ready for her shift to be over. All she could think about was Jag and what they were going to do tonight.
“What’s up with you?” Kenna asked when they were thirty minutes out from quitting time. “You’ve been kind of weird all day.”
“Nothing,” Carly said.
“Bullshit. Spill,” Kenna ordered.
Carly couldn’t keep the smile off her face. “Jag and I just have…special plans tonight.”
She didn’t need to explain. Kenna squealed a little and clapped her hands lightly. “Yay! Are you nervous?”
“No.” And she wasn’t. After everything that had happened between them, sex with the man she loved more than life itself wasn’t anything to be nervous about. She hoped and prayed everything would go smoothly for Jag’s sake, but she wasn’t overly worried about that. She’d experienced Jag’s increased confidence firsthand in just the last week.
She had been worried about his first session with the psychologist, about all the horrible memories he’d have to relive, wondering if they’d make him reticent to touch her sexually. Instead, the opposite seemed to happen.
