Posing for the Omega (For the Alpha #2)(38)
A cool breeze blew across the water and over my wet fur from where I stood at the waters edge. It was cold enough to send a shiver down my spine all the way to my toes. The light had started to dull in the sky and I hadn’t realize how long I’d been washing in the river, or how long I’d been alone in the woods. It was a brick weight to realize I was alone. I shouldn’t be alone. The hairs on my spine rose as the feeling of dread filled me to an overwhelming fiz of energy. I felt it, right behind me, the eyes burning into my back until they burned my soul.
Warm breath rolled over my shoulder, “I smell your fear.”
Yelping I stood quickly falling into the shallow stream as I faced the stranger behind me. In the shadows I could see the large luperci body hovering in the shadows of the woods. The bright gleam of the setting sun contrasted with the sharp darkness of the trees making the outline of his luperci body the only visible details. It wasn’t Lathos, I knew that monsters voice from my nightmares, so that would make this one his pack members.
Panting I tried to catch my breath as my heart raced at a deadly rate in my chest. “W-what do you want?” I bared my fangs, the only defense I had from my spot in the water where I’d fallen.
“I took something. It will be more fun to make you watch, instead of finding it later.” The monster rumbled out something that sounded like a distorted chuckle.
Cold seeped into my body till I was shaking uncontrollably. What did he mean? What did he have. I watched too terrified to move as it drug something behind it into the dappled rays of light leaking through the branches until I could see the massive brown form of an ugly monster covered in scars and missing part of its right ear. He was horrifying and reeked of blood and fear of some many creatures I was unable to hold in the gag as the breeze blew the scent into my face. How had I not scented him before he got so close? How had he— my eyes shifted to the think behind it that he held by its hind leg as he pulled it into the most visible light till I could see—
“NO!!! Let him go! Let him GO!” I howled in fury as I thrashed around trying desperately to get to my feet. “Koda wake up! Wake UP!” Oh mother please I beg you don’t let him be dead. I couldn’t stand the sharp agony that dug at my heart as I looked at the black wolf completely still at the beast's feet. “My pack will come! They will hear me! My alpha will come!” I growled as I finally got to my feet.
“Who gives a fuck about those stupid wolves. Pathetic unevolved bitches. A good source of meat, very good meat.” He barked out a laugh. “Slow and weak.”
“FUCK FURLESS BASTARD! Let him go!” I vibrated with the need to move, to protect my litter mate. Koda’s torso rose up and down the only visible sign he was still alive. What had he done to him?
“Lathos is right. You will be worth the wait. Hexis won’t mind if we don’t find the rest of them if we bring something like you back.” The luperci said in a low rumble as he spoke to himself.
“W-what do you want from me? I’ll do anything if you let him go.” I looked around desperately. Where was my pack? I wasn’t that far from the dens, they had to have heard me. Where was Zora?
“You’re supposed to watch, like a good little bitch.” He said as he leaned down towards Koda’s prone body his claws gleaming as he went for my brothers exposed belly.
“NO!” I ran forward, no plan, just adrenaline as I stared at my brother. I wouldn’t let him touch my brother. He was my pack, my family! I stumbled as black body surged from the darkness behind the luperci and landed on its back clamping down on the junction of its neck and shoulder with massive angry white fangs. Alloy tore furiously into the luperci’s tender area as the monster roared in surprise. He grabbed at Alloy from his back clawing into the wolfs massive body as he attempted to pull him off. They rolled to the side as they seperated in a bloody mess of tangle fur before springing back at each other teeth and claws slashing in a fury of movements.
I ran forward towards Koda’s body. I had to keep him safe, that was what mattered. Touching his chest I let his black fur weed between my large fingers as I felt for his heart beat. It thrummed strongly against my palm, calming some of my panic. He wasn’t dead. Oh mother thank you, thank you. My ears swiveled as a loud yelped echoed from not far away where Alloy at the luperci were fighting. I watched as Alloy, the biggest most powerful wolf I’ve ever met lay on his side heaving, blood pouring out of a massive wound I could not see. No NO NO this couldn’t be happening. I couldn’t let this happen, he was my brothers mate, my friend, Zora’s friend. I couldn’t let him die.
The luperci leaned over Alloy’s body yellow stained fangs draw wide as he went for his exposed throat. Growling savagely I bulldozed into the massive luperci with as much strength as I could. We became a tangled mess we careened down the small ravine inside the tree line. I sank my teeth into the first available flesh as we rolled down in the dead leaves and pine needles. His blood filled my mouth as his claws and teeth buried into my own flesh. There was no pain. I wanted him dead. I wanted to see his lifeless eyes from the shadows of the forest floor. My jaw clamped down hardered at some unknown body part causing a furious noise to erupt from the alpha beneath me. A sudden force to my back forced me to release him as we were separated by a massive pine tree in our path. Pain filled my senses as I slid the last few feet to the bottom of the incline. Angry growls from the luperci told me he wasn’t dead nor was he in as bad a shape as I was. I clutched my belly as so many things started to run through my head. Where my pups ok? Was Alloy ok? Where was Zora? Groaning I tried to pull myself up only to slide back down to the ground in a pathetic mess. I was bleeding, I could feel the hot liquid slide through my fur onto the ground, but I didn’t remember getting the injury. My eyes darted over to the alpha as he stood on strong legs his face contorted into a deadly mask of rage. Blood was pouring out of the wound in the juncture of his shoulder matting his ugly brown fur into a caked mess.
