Posing for the Omega (For the Alpha #2)(43)
Pack members began to murmur among themselves as they looked between their alpha bitch and me. I could see the indecision written on her face as she looked at the various faces of the pack members who had gathered around to watch the exchange. They looked to her for guidance because her trust in Zora was the strongest bond outside of his friendship with Alloy. Naga tensed her eyes retreating to look at the ground defiantly. Svara touched her shoulder rumbling an encouraging sound that was similar to what my alpha did for me. “Take the fucking branch bitch,” Svara murmured to the she wolf. If she could find a way to trust him despite him being luperci, so could the pack.
Naga blew out a frustrated breath and let her eyes locking on Zora who had been very still in the last few minutes. “You wouldn’t honor his guarantee even if he was wrong.”
Zora shook his head, “no I would not punish my mate to satisfy the pack. I would not punish anyone needlessly to gain blind loyalty. If I do not have that on my own merit then I do not deserve to have it.”
“You lied to us.” Naga said bluntly, something I was sure most of the pack wanted to say as well.
“I did, but I cannot undo what is in the past.”
Naga’s jaw clenched and her nostrils flared as the admission seemed to cause her some internal struggle. “Then I want a guarantee from you.” She looked at the other wolves before she looked back at her alpha. “If another pack members dies because of these luperci you will renounce your position in the pack and leave.”
I could see my alphas back tense, but he stayed silent. That was a large guaranteed to make, especially for a pack of wolves that wouldn’t be able to force him to leave. That was the trust they put in him, that he would leave because he’d said he would. It would break his strong heart to lose his family and I knew without a doubt this pack was his family. “You ask too much Na—”
“I accept,” Zora said cutting me off.
“Alpha?” I touched his back feeling his strength beneath my fingertips and waited for an answer. Why would he agree to something so outrageous. No one could predict if another pack member might die.
“It will be fine little one.” He reassured me even as I felt the stress building up in his body. “Now that we have settled, Svara, you mentioned news.” Zora rumbled as he stepped closer to the she wolf his second form dwarfing hers.
Svara looked at Naga who was still staring at the ground with a furrowed brow. “Stubborn female.” The female luperci shook her head before looking at Zora. “Yeah. I put out the body. He was definitely a watch while they were away, but they will be back and they’ll come to this pack looking for blood and to get Ira and the pups.”
I frowned. “I thought you said they wouldn’t hunt while I was pregnant?” I know she’d said they wouldn’t.
“I don’t think they care about fenrir as long as they are getting what Hexis wants.”
“What does that mean?” I asked.
“It means we wait till they come back and then we make a stand. Lathos only has three alphas, we have an entire pack.”
That made me remember something I hadn't before, something the luperci had said when he'd had Koda. “Svara, I’ve been meaning to ask you something. The luperci that attacked said something else, he said Hexis wouldn’t mind if they didn’t find the others. What was he talking about? What others?”
Svara stiffened but let out a sigh. “Somehow the sharing secrets became my fucking turn. Fine,” She took in a deep breathe and let it out. “I stole and hid females and omegas from the pack and Hexis is looking for me so he can find them.”
“You what?” Naga screeched whirling on Svara with deadly intent.
To be honest I wasn’t much happier hearing this little tidbit of information. “Wait, does that mean they’re out this far looking for you?” I might actually kill her.
Svara shrugged as if she didn’t know or care. “Probably, but mostly they are looking for the omegas. If they found me in the process they probably wouldn’t pass up the opportunity to torture me until I told them what they wanted to know. The luperci female looked at Naga with an unconcerned gaze. “Don’t get your fucking tail in a twist it wasn’t like they followed me here. You already had this infestation way before I came around. They probably stumbled across Ira’s scent and one things lead to another. Ira is something they would fight over.”
“Let us speak somewhere else.” Zora said directing us towards our large den so we wouldn’t be in hearing distance of the entire pack. “Retrieve my beta’s Naga. This is a conversation they need to be apart of.” Alpha said without looking at the alpha bitch, expecting her to following the command now that their dispute had been resolved. I don’t know that I would have put much faith in her to let go of her animosity, even if the pack couldn’t afford for her to hold a grudge right now. Naga had a super power when it came to being a vengeful bitch.
Naga hesitated, but the look Svara sent her must have kept her from arguing and she shifted down to four paws before loping away to find the pack betas. Svara watched her go with a strange expression on her face before it was replaced with the usual cocky grin I’d become accustomed to. “She is easy on the eyes, but mother be damned she’s got a stick up that fine ass.” We stopped right inside the alpha den, far enough away from mine and Zora’s bed that it wouldn’t invade our personal space. Svara sat down her freckled skin in high contrast against the cavern walls of dark grey and brown. Zora moved to my side and helped me sit down with little effort before he also sat down next to me, his weight comforting against me. “You know she probably won’t hold you to it.” Svara said out of the blue referring to the guarantee Naga had needed.
