Dear Heart, You Screwed Me(69)
“I never want you to say that word and Reese’s name in the same sentence again. Besides, we’re not sleeping together.” His voice was steady, my heart dropped. Was he actually going to lie to her?
“We’re married.”
I gasped at the same time as Adele.
“You’re what?”
“You heard me, now, do yourself a favour… pick your bag up and get the fuck out of my office,” he growled.
Adele didn’t move.
“GET OUT!” He bellowed, his voice bouncing off the walls. I jumped; angry Killian was not someone I wanted to get on the wrong side of.
“Killian,” Adele said a little taken aback.
“Get out now Adele, before I call security and have them march you out.”
“You wouldn’t do that; this is your name on the line as well Killian. You need to remember that.”
“Last warning…”
“I’m leaving,” she said quietly, the chair scraped across the floor, followed by her heels clicking quickly.
Once the door was shut, Killian crouched down, smirking at me. Angry Killian had left with Adele, and now playful, beautiful Killian was here.
“Hello, you.”
His hand reached under the desk as he helped me out. Standing tall, I brushed myself down.
“Hey,” I breathed, tucking a loose strand of my hair behind my ear. “It didn’t take you long, did it?” I teased, “Missed me that much?” I blushed.
“With your dirty little mouth, it never takes me long.”
I swatted at him in the chest.
“Not that I am not pleased to see you, but why are you here?” he sat in his chair, kicking his feet up on his desk. I walked slowly round to the other side, knotting my fingers together.
“Well,” I breathed out, “I was coming to shout at you.” I nibbled my bottom lip as my eyes cast down to my hands that were sitting in my lap.
“And why is that?” he said trying to stop himself from smirking.
“Because of what happened at work this morning, I’ve been getting in early, you know… to try and keep occupied and my mind busy.” I heard him sigh but I didn’t look up, “I went to make myself a drink and when I came back, I heard Adele on the phone. I didn’t even know she was in. Anyway, she was on the phone to someone telling them that she wasn’t going to promote me, and she was going to let me go sooner rather than later.” My eyes lifted and met his, a scowled look on his face, his brows pinched and furrowed as he listened.
“But now I know that she wasn’t on the phone to you…” I shrugged, “I was annoyed because I thought after everything we had been through that you would have had the decency to give me a heads up or at least make sure I was okay… but that anger and rage have gone now because it wasn’t you on the other end of the line.”
“Reese, you should know me better than that…” he dragged his feet off his desk and leaned forward in his office chair. “I wouldn’t have even entertained the conversation.”
The room grew with thick tension, I felt choked as our gazes locked.
“You’re going back, right?” Killian finally broke the silence.
I shook my head from side to side. “How can I go back after walking out? And you told Adele about us… we’re getting annulled in a little over a month. She is going to hate me even more now.”
He didn’t say anything, just rubbed his index finger and thumb across his stubble.
“I just wanted the fresh start. I wanted to make something of myself here… yet nothing has gone to plan. I’ve lost my job, I accidentally married my best friend’s dad… And just sucked him off under his desk because I liked the fact that Adele was sitting there, and I could do that to you.” I face palmed myself, agitated suddenly.
“I liked that you done that…” he winked, his tongue darting out to lick his top lip. “It’s just a shame I won’t be able to return the favour since we have both agreed not to do this anymore…” his voice was raspy, his eyes hooded as he shuffled to the edge of his seat.
“I know…” I breathed a whisper, “it’s for the best.” I swallowed, praying that I could feel some saliva back in my mouth.
“It is,” he nodded.
Pressing my legs together to dull the ache from my throbbing sex. I knew we couldn’t, we had to refrain from doing anything.
He was my best friend’s dad.
We had to put a stop to it, we both agreed.
I had to take myself out of this tempting situation. I ached for him, I wanted his hands and mouth all over me. It was forbidden now.
He was a temptation I couldn’t give into.
My whole body hummed as I stood, my skin alight with a burning sensation from his gaze. It was hard to step back, his penetrating gaze pinning me. I caught my breath as I stepped back towards the office door.
“Where you going?” he asked, standing from his desk and walking towards me cautiously.
“I’ve got to get out of here… one of us needs to be sensible.” I swallowed, my back hitting the door.
He closed the gap between us, one of his hands pushed against the wall beside my head, the other was deep in his pocket.
“Are you sure there isn’t anything else I can do for you?” seduction laced his voice.
