Dear Heart, You Screwed Me(25)

I need an annulment.

I couldn’t stay married to him.

Killian Hayes.

My husband.

“We need to annul our marriage.”

“But if we slept together…” Killian began, but I leant over pressing my finger to his lips.

“No one knows if we did, no one was in the room, we were too drunk to remember if we had sex. So, let’s just say we didn’t.”

Killian nodded quietly, his eyes not leaving mine.

“No one needs to know. Not my friends, my parents or Adele. Fuck!” my eyes widened. “Definitely not Adele. She’ll fire my arse.” I panic, dropping my finger from his plump, delicious lips and roll out of bed, pulling the duvet with me.

Killian froze, reaching across and grabbing the pillow from behind his head and covering himself up.

I spun, my jaw lax as I saw him lying there with just a pillow covering his cock.

He had a dusting of dark hair over his chest, his shoulders, arms, and chest toned. I couldn’t help but notice a scar that ran from just under his collar bone, down to his ribs.

I didn’t spend too much longer looking, I turned and ran into the bathroom, slamming the door and locking it behind me.

This was not happening.

Adele was going to kill me.

I was going to be fired.

I would have to go back home with my tail between my legs because I got drunk on tequila and married one of the investors.

I am never drinking tequila again.

Once I was showered, I slipped the lock across and sneaked out of the bathroom. I could hear him on the phone. Tiptoeing out, I didn’t want to eavesdrop.

“Can you come and pick me up from Park Avenue in half an hour please?” his voice was hushed.

Good.

He is going.

It should make me happy… but instead, for some reason it stung.

Pacing into the open planned kitchen, I flicked the coffee machine on.

Killian was standing by the window watching the hustle and bustle of the city.

“Coffee?” I asked.

He turned slowly, his eyes dragging up and down my body as he took in my appearance. I was wearing leggings and a cropped vest. I was going to use the apartment block gym to try and sweat out the hangover.

“No, thank you,” his smile was tight, he had one hand fisted in his pocket as he just watched.

I smiled back at him, turning on my heel quickly and grabbing a mug and opting for a cup of tea instead.

Wrapping my fingers around my hot cup, I stood with my back against the worktop as I stood silently watching him. He was tapping the screen of his phone.

It was like the night after drunken sex. Tension. Awkward. And I still have to see him through work from time to time.

“Are you okay to sort out the annulment?” I mutter as the rim of the mug sits on my bottom lip.

“Lawyer is already drawing up the papers.” He mutters back, not lifting his eyes from the phone screen.

The silence falls again for a moment before his phone beeps.

“I’ve got to go,” he presses his lips into a tight line before walking towards me, his Louboutins clicking along the hard wood floor as he does.

“I’ll be seeing you, wife,” he smirks, slipping his phone in the inside of his suit pocket before walking out of my door, making me jump in my skin as it slammed shut.

Damn it.

After a good work out in the gym, I had droplets of sweat beading on my forehead, my skin covered in a sheen of sweat. Patting my head with my towel I started heading back to my apartment. I needed to call Connie, but there was no way I was telling her what happened last night. I needed to keep it quiet. As soon as it was over, I would fill her in on everything. But I couldn’t risk losing my job, I couldn’t risk fucking up this quickie break up. Peeling my clothes off, I fell on the bed and called Connie.

She answered after the first ring.

After telling me all about her night with Kieran we said we would meet for lunch tomorrow. My hangover was beginning to creep back over me. I needed junk food and a binge-worthy tv series.

That sounded like the perfect Saturday.

After two hours of Friends I stood to grab a glass of water. Filling my cup I padded back to the room, my eyes moving to my bedside unit.

Pulling the drawer open I saw my diary staring back at me. I felt like I hadn’t written in it for so long, I was overdue an entry.

Dear Diary,

It’s been a while and I’m sorry.

Life has been hectic, work, social life, accidental marriage.

Yup.

Dickhead here got so drunk that she woke up this morning with a ring on her finger. And it gets worse.

It’s with one of the big investors of the company I work with.

I was told no dating co-workers or investors.

Well, I went one up and married him.

Adele is going to kill me.

And Elijah? He is going to be frowning from heaven. I am sure I am going to hell. Because that’s what I deserve. He has been gone two years, and here I am married.

Of course, I am going to get it annulled. I can’t be with him.

We can never go there.

I have majorly fucked up.

Over and out.

R X

Slamming the diary shut, I felt the rage coursing through me. How could I have been so stupid. Pressing my palm to my head I closed my eyes.
