Wild Chance (Wild Irish Universe)(37)
Thankfully, the line moved quickly and soon she was heading back to Aedan, balancing a tray with two hotdogs, two tall cans of beer, a bag of popcorn and a couple bottles of water.
“Mona? Mona Lisa?”
Oh shit.
“Kevin!” She exclaimed, lifting the tray a little higher so he would get the point and not try to hug her. “How’ve you been?”
“Pretty good. I didn’t know you were a baseball fan.”
“Yeah—huge baseball fan.” She lied. “You look well.”
“I am. You look great.”
“Better than the last time you saw me, huh?”
“You’re living here now?” He asked with a smile and ignoring her question. “When did you move to Baltimore?”
“A while—needed the quiet, you know? So, how is blondie?”
“Blondie—you mean Karen? We broke up.”
“I’m sorry to hear that.” Inside, Mona was doing cartwheels and pelvic thrust while fireworks went off behind her head, all the time waving her middle fingers in the air.
“Listen.” Kevin’s voice cut through her excitement. “If you’re not doing anything later…”
She gave him a tight smile.
On what fucking planet, Kevin Carter?
“I have a few plans. Listen, Kevin, it was great seeing you but my boyfriend is waiting. I’d like him to get his hot dog hot, while it’s still edible.”
“Boyfriend—right…um…yeah. It was great seeing you.”
She didn’t return the sentiment. Mona merely smiled and hurried off, ensuring she swung her waist as sexily as she could with the load in her hands. Near their row, Aedan rose to help her with her pile. The other seats were filled by now and she smiled at the bright eyed teenager sitting next to her.
“Hello,” Mona offered.
“Hey,” the young girl replied with a grin. “First game?”
“First Orioles game.”
“Mine too! Isn’t it exciting!”
Mona laughed. “It is.”
With that she returned her attention to Aedan who was busy craning his neck to take a better look at the players. She leaned over and took a breath. “Aedan?”
“Mmm?”
“My ex-boyfriend is here.”
He arched a brow and met her gaze. “Say what?”
“I didn’t even know he was a baseball fan. The last time I saw him was six years ago and he was busy riding off into the sunset with some blond chick name Karen.”
“Wow.”
“Yeah—now he wants to know if I’m doing anything later.”
Aedan growled.
“I promised you, Aedan. This body…”
“Is mine. I know that. But if you feel anything for him, I’m man enough to back off.”
Mona smiled and kissed his neck. “I don’t want you to back off.” She kissed the side of his head. “Kevin had his chance and he fucked it up. You’re my man now.”
Before Aedan could speak, the announcer began introducing the players. Mona took the first bite from her ballpark dog and chewed. All the while she could feel Aedan’s eyes on her. From time to time she’d set her food into her lap and applaud with everyone else, but all through that time, Aedan never looked away.
As the game progressed, the hairs on the back of Mona’s neck stood on end. It was as though someone was staring at her, but she couldn’t quite find the eyes. Aedan was affectionate, kissing her when the Orioles scored, rubbing her thighs where her short dress stopped or kissing the back of her hand during the lull of the game. Still, that uneasiness remained.
“You okay?” Aedan asked.
“Yeah.” She lied. No use worrying him too.
Around the top of the eighth inning, she stood to allow the teen and her boyfriend to go by. When she looked around, she caught him—Kevin was staring. With a frown, she simply sat and leaned into Aedan’s side as much as the seat’s arm would allow. Aedan lifted an arm to wrap around her, dropped a kiss to her head and Mona sighed.
“Your body is so warm.” Mona sighed.
“That’s your boyfriend—a human blanket.”
She giggled. “My boyfriend? I like the sound of that—actually, I love the sound of that.”
“You’re a lush.”
“That’s Lady Lush to you—Ms. Lush if you’re nasty.”
“Okay then, Ms. Lush.”
Mona lifted her head to meet his beautiful stare and trembled. “How am I going to make it home without tearing your clothes off?”
“Ever had fun in the back seat of a car?” Aedan wiggled his brows suggestively.
She laughed and smacked his thigh. “As hot as that sounds—I would suggest we find a hotel close by for the night?”
“Why, Ms. Lush. What kind of man do you think I am?”
“The kind who is getting hard just thinking of me naked in a massive king size bed?”
Aedan moaned. “You know me too well.” He kissed her. “Let’s leave now.”
“The game isn’t over yet.”
Aedan glanced over at the players going at it and sighed. “I’ll make it worth your while.”
“Fella, you got yourself a deal.”
