What was that scent!?

My heart, my soul, my whole body was on fire for the scent I’d picked up back at that old warehouse. The omega that had gotten out of that car…his beautiful smell had slammed into me like a 747 jet crashing into the side of a mountain. Never since Chris had I smelled something so enticing. My mouth was practically watering as I watched him from the shadows across the street where I was parked.

It had taken everything I had inside me not to race over there and grab him, throw him on the back of my bike and take him home with me. And shit, I hadn’t felt like that in years.

Hell, I never thought I’d even be capable of feeling like that again. Not since I lost Chris. But what can I say? As soon as that scent hit my nostrils, nature took over and I was helpless.

But he was up to something that I couldn’t interrupt. He was with a whole crew of biker gang alphas back there, and even if I’d gone over and tried to whisk him away, those boys would definitely have had something to say about it.

So I followed him. Across town and to the outskirts of Stonington to an old apartment building. I recognized it for what it was right away: another biker gang’s headquarters. I didn’t know there was even one gang around here, let alone two, and it seemed like they were doing business together. If I had to guess, I’d bet that that sweet smelling omega had either drugs or money stashed in that pizza bag.

I glanced across the street from the alley where I’d parked my bike. The boy had just gone in through the front door, and if everything went according to plan, he’d be coming out in no time and I could make my move on him.

It was a wolf biker gang. I could tell by their smell. They were some tough sons of bitches too and I didn’t like the looks of them. I didn’t even know this omega, but I was already feeling protective of him. I didn’t like him being in there, and had even thought about going up there and pretending to be one of his buddies come to check on him. But that could easily lead to trouble.

No, it was better to wait.

But he was taking a long time in there. It didn’t make any sense really. If this was just your standard drop-off and pick-up, why wasn’t he back yet? He wasn’t a leader of his gang, so they wouldn’t be discussing business with him.

Where is he!?

Against my better judgment, I slid off my bike and stepped out onto the main street across from the clubhouse. I couldn’t just walk on up there, and I knew they could smell me, but if I kept my distance they’d have no reason to suspect that anything was up. So I kept my head down and walked up the street a block before crossing over to their side.

I searched the air for the omega’s scent in case he’d gone out the back or something, but I only picked up the faint traces from before when he’d gone inside.

Keeping to the shadows, and moving as quietly as I could, I made my way back up the block toward the clubhouse. There were still a few lookouts standing guard out front, but they hadn’t seen me yet. Quickly, I leapt over a small fence to my left and ducked into the cover of a vacant lot that bordered the clubhouse.

I stayed low and used the cover of a few small bushes to keep out of sight. I could see the back door through the leaves. There were three men standing in a circle behind the back door. They weren’t smoking, they weren’t talking – they were just waiting. And then I realized what was happening.

An ambush!

The back door opened, and the unbelievable scent wafted through the air as my omega stepped out of the building. He was holding the pizza bag, but the poor boy had no idea what was in for him.

I have to do something!

An alpha had his arm around him – a real cocky looking son of a bitch with a long brown beard. He moved like a leader, and probably was. He orchestrated this whole thing and was going to rip the boy off and probably kill him. Letting him go back to his gang and explain what had gone down would start a war. Better to just pretend he never showed up with the product if his crew came looking for him.

“What is this?” I heard the omega say. His voice…

Fuck, it’s like music!

Something ran through me – a spark, like electricity that sent shivers down my limbs. He had to know what was happening, and even if he didn’t, I did. And I wasn’t about to let it go down.

I watched in horror as one of the men swung. His fist connected with the omega’s cheek, and I saw blood spray into the air.

My fox stirred and I let it overcome me instantly. I shifted, exploding out of my clothes. Those didn’t matter anymore. The only thing that mattered was this omega.

Snarling, I leapt over the fence and darted toward the men as one of them drove his fist into the omega’s stomach. He doubled over, and my stomach turned as though I’d been hit too.

He struggled to his feet as another one of the men raised his hand to swing. But his fist never found its target.

My fangs clamped down on his neck with every bit of force in my body. He barely had time to gasp before I snapped his neck. His body hit the ground at my feet and slumped lifelessly into a heap as blood poured into the dirt.

“Fuck!” one of them shouted in shock. I leapt at him and sank my teeth into his shoulder, tearing as much flesh away as I could. Blood spilled into my mouth and he howled with pain, collapsing to his knees.
