Lola & the Millionaires: Part One (Sweet Omegaverse #2)(34)

Lola

“I know what you’re going to say. But Lollipop, my queen, my goddess, please just consider. It’s the last day of fashion week. It’s gonna be the best, biggest, most amazing after-party, and I really think you’ve got to congratulate yourself and come with me. Now before you—”

“Sure, I’ll go,” I said.

“I’m sorry, you’ll fucking what?” Rake asked, makeup smeared over his face and down his neck as he dropped his third wipe to the counter and gaped at me in the reflection of the mirror.

“I said I’ll go to the party,” I said, shrugging and trying to keep my smile under control.

Rake’s eyes narrowed and he huffed. “Damnit, Leo already sold you on it, didn’t he?”

I laughed and finished packing up my stuff before grabbing the wipes from Rake’s hands. “He did, but you were doing a really good job, so don’t feel bad. Let me do this.”

Rake ‘pfft’d but the sound died off as I turned his chair to face me and tipped his chin up, washing away the remaining streaks of makeup with gentle, thorough sweeps.

“Leo’s been walking around all day every day in a total daydream. Day-sex-dream. He’s very smug about how well laid he is, basically,” Rake muttered as I washed around his lips. “I’m super jealous, by the way.”

“You have a pack. Fuck your alphas,” I said.

“I’m not jealous of you, I’m jealous of Leo getting to sex you up.”

I blushed and shook my head. Rake’s brand of flirtation was more aggressive, and I wasn’t really sure how to respond most of the time. Especially not when we were this close together and he was lounging back in his chair like he was just waiting for me to climb onto his lap, those glass green eyes watching my every move.

I blinked and leaned back, aware of the warmth in my cheeks. It’d been a few nights since Leo had stayed over at my place, and I was surprised by how eager I was to have him back in my bed. I’d kept my bar flings in a careful and strict routine, and those had been messy and brief. Even before meeting Buzz, I usually had a craving for sex and once it was satisfied, I was good for a few weeks until boredom set in again.

Now, it was different. I wasn’t craving the release so much as I was craving the time with Leo; the touching and teasing that led up to sex, the connection during, and the gentle pause on the spinning world as we curled up together after.

“Your dopey happy expression isn’t quite as bad as his, but it’s close,” Rake said, but his smile was fond as he stared up at me.

I ignored him and grabbed up a jar of oil cleanser. “Brought you this. Want me to put it on you?”

“I will take absolutely any excuse to have you touching me,” Rake said, slouching down in his seat and throwing his head back.

I snorted and stood behind him, scooping some of the solid oil from the jar and warming it on my clean fingers before massaging it onto Rake’s face. He held a small groan of pleasure behind his lips, his eyes falling shut as I spread the oil over his skin, working out the last of the makeup left.

“I hope he’s paying you extra for the spa treatment.”

I looked up into the mirror to find David standing behind me, and I grinned as I continued to spoil Rake.

“You know I never skimp,” Rake mumbled, a dreamy smile painted over his lips.

“Hey, I’ll be done in a minute,” I said, turning my cheek to accept David’s kiss there.

David was about the same height as me, comparatively short to the models running around backstage, and I’d always thought he dressed more like a lawyer than a fashion buyer for some of the best boutiques in the city. He preferred for his look to be called ‘classic,’ but I noticed even he’d stepped it up for the week’s festivities, wearing a bold patterned jacket in a subtle shade of plum.

“This is for you,” David said, hanging a black garment bag from the mirror we’d been using. “And it’s a gift, not a loan, so I had it altered for you.”

“David, I said—”

“Don’t bicker with me, Lola. Just take the dress.”

“Fine. Thank you.”

“Ohhh, can I bully you into accepting presents too?” Rake asked, and I glared at David, stepping away and wiping my hands on a rag.

“No. Go wash up. I’m gonna put my own makeup on before changing.”

“Start by giving her your swag bag extras and then work your way up to outright purcha—Ow, Lola!” David jumped out of the way as I pinched hard on his arm for encouraging Rake. I glared at him and he glared back, but I was pretty sure I caught the sneaky bastard fighting a smile.

Rake slipped away, grinning at me over his shoulder, and I rolled my eyes.

“That’s cute. Rake usually lets people flirt with him not the other way around,” David mused.

“Don’t encourage him,” I answered, taking Rake’s seat.

Rake had been more careful around me this week. Vocally, he took every opportunity to come on to me, but physically he held back. Once again, it must’ve gone through their pack’s rumor-mill that I was twitchy about being scent-marked. This time I was a little grateful. With Rake restraining himself, I found that I could set our interactions on my own terms of comfort. If it was a post-nightmare morning, I stayed restrained. If it was the end of a long and successful week like this one, maybe I’d let go a little at the party. I knew Leo liked the idea of Rake and I hitting it off, and I did crave that glittery feeling the omega’s attention left me with.
