Lola & the Millionaires: Part One (Sweet Omegaverse #2)(33)

He dove back in and shut the door, locking it behind him as he grinned at me. There were two red marks on his skin from my bites, and his hair was sticking up at odd angles from my fists. He joined me on the couch, sliding into the open spot I made for him in my tangle of bed sheets and comforter.

“Someone was coming up the stairs,” he said, breathless and grinning.

“You’re a little bit crazy,” I said, snuggling into his warm chest and draping my legs over his, tucking the sheet over my breasts for makeshift modesty.

“I’m a little bit deliriously happy,” he said, leaning in and kissing my shoulder before pulling the hot box of pizza onto our laps.

God, that smelled good.

“Now I just need to stuff my face so I’ve got energy for us to do that again,” Leo said, opening the box. My stomach let out an audible growl as I was hit by a waft of greasy, cheesy, salty ambrosia.

“Before or after that shower I haven’t had yet?” I asked.

“During?” Leo suggested, eyebrows ticking up.

“During is good,” I nodded, taking a slice from the box, my mouth watering as the cheese made a perfect stretch from the center.

During was excellent. After the shower, with a couple hours of sleep and wandering, greedy hands was even better.

“I am thoroughly impressed with your range,” I said, my cheek on Leo’s heaving chest.

“My range…of motion?” he asked, catching his breath.

“Mm. That too. I meant your range of sex stylings.”

“Sex stylings?”

“Yeah, you know. Rough and fast, fucking me across my living room floor? Check.” I made a little checkmark in the air with my fingertip and continued. “Better stamina than my building’s hot water tank? Check. Slow, intense, gropey bedtime sex? Check.”

Leo caught my finger and drew my hand to his lips, kissing my palm. “Just so you know, I was going for ‘passionate’ not ‘gropey bedtime,’ but thank you.”

I curled against him, pressing my giddy smile into his shoulder. This all felt so good, I sort of couldn’t believe it was happening to me.

It can’t last.

My smile settled and I closed my eyes, hoping the post-sex haze and another few hours of sleep might shut the nasty voice in my head up for a while longer. Instead I found myself thinking of Rake and what he’d said about the betas who chased his pack.

“Hey, Leo?”

“Hm, what’s up, gorgeous?”

“How long do you think we can do this?”

“I mean, I thought I was being pretty optimistic bringing six condoms, but if I need to run to the store, I will.”

My lips twitched with another smile, but this time an ache followed in my chest. “I mean…if I can’t be around alphas, how long can it last?”

Leo let out a long sigh, and I shook my head.

“Fuck. No, erase that question. I don’t know why—”

Leo turned and hauled me against him, his arms wrapped around my arms and my waist in a trap that bordered on distressing. But I held my breath and waited for him to speak, knowing if he let me go right now, I would probably run to the bathroom just to force space between us.

“I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t hoping that with enough time, if we took things at your pace, that you might find yourself comfortable around my pack and I wouldn’t have to make any decisions like that. I…”

“You’re bonded,” I whispered, and Leo nodded, his chin on my shoulder bumping against me.

“Is that… Do you think that you’d be comfortable trying to be around them occasionally? Or do you know, right now, that’s never going to happen for you?” It wasn’t asked with any judgment, and I wondered what he would say if I said I knew for certain I never wanted to go to his home or be around his alphas.

He might lie and say we could work around it, he might even say that and believe it, but I knew it was impossible. So instead, I tried to imagine myself lowering my guards. Not for everyone, but for Leo and his pack. I liked Cyrus, and there was something…comforting almost, about Matthieu.

“You don’t have to answer now,” Leo said. “I know it’s probably something we should’ve thought about before tonight but I…it wouldn’t have changed how badly I wanted you.”

It might’ve kept my heart from breaking if we fell apart sooner rather than later though. Except I didn’t want to think about not having nights like this with Leo again. Not having someone really see me the way he had when he found me earlier.

“I think that I should try to be more open to your pack if that’s what you want, or they want, or—”

Leo’s hands turned me to face him, and he sat up on his elbow. We could barely see each other, there was just a little light from the hall bathroom.

“You mean that?” he asked, voice rising with hope.

I nodded. “Yes.”

“Lola…” His head dipped and I met him in the drowsy, licking kiss. “Hmm… I think you must like me.”

I laughed, and the slow trickling tension that had risen during the conversation faded away again.

“I definitely like you,” I answered in a whisper, and I demanded another kiss, and then another, until we were coaxing each other to sleep with lazy grazes of our lips.
