Knot So Perfect Omega (Omega Match #1)(57)

“She’s ours, that’s why. No one before has even come close.” Beck sounded wistful, which was interesting to hear. He wasn’t one to get all sappy. “I want to bond with her. It’s been killing me not biting her neck these last few days.”

“Same, but she wants to wait until after the championship. I say screw the championship.” I unhooked my seatbelt as the car pulled into the parking lot. “We don’t need the money or the fame.”

“You know she won’t let us do that.” Beck got out and I trailed behind him into the pharmacy. “We don’t want to disappoint our fans either.”

He was right, but that didn’t mean I had to like it. Now that Kayla was in the picture, I didn’t want to spend weeks traveling for games next season. If she was going to start her own business, she wouldn’t want to come along with us. But that was a worry for another day.

We needed a few supplies, so I grabbed a handbasket by the door before we headed to the back of the store where the pharmacy was. No one was in line, so we stepped right up to the counter and rang the bell

“Can I help you?” A man came from around the corner of a shelving unit full of medicines.

“We’re here to pick up two prescriptions for Kayla Sterling and to have these tested.” I put the two bottles on the counter. “Her doctor should have called.”

“Ah, yes.” He stepped up to the counter and grabbed the bottles, examining them. “Let me take a look at them.”

He opened the heat suppressants and tapped a few out into a little cup. He prodded them and narrowed his eyes before grabbing a pair of tweezers and bringing one out to examine it closer.

“What is it?” Beck leaned forward, trying to see what the pharmacist was looking at.

“These don’t have the brand symbol. See?” He dropped it in his hand and turned it over. “It’s blank. It should have an omega symbol on both sides.”

“Maybe the manufacturer didn’t put one on by accident?” I asked hopefully. “What does it mean if there isn’t an omega symbol?”

“The pharmacist that filled this bottle would have noticed when they were counting the pills. They signed the side of the bottle that it was checked.” He pointed to initials across the label. “Your omega didn’t notice they were blank? One of the first things they’re taught is to examine their pills before taking.” He grabbed a larger plastic tray and dumped the whole bottle in it. “I’ll have to send these to the lab to be tested to know for sure what they are, but they aren’t heat suppressants.”

“Then what the fuck are they?” Beck was starting to grow agitated, and I put a hand on his back.

“What about these?” He pushed the perfume blockers toward him.

The pharmacist grabbed another tray and emptied them. “These are correct, but if she was taking a placebo pill, then it wouldn’t have worked that well.” His eyes went to our necks. “And if you aren’t bonded with her yet, she would naturally release more perfume anyway to grab your attention.”

“Placebo pills? What are those?” I could feel Beck’s anger through our bond and hoped he didn’t jump through the opening and strangle the pharmacist.

“Sugar pills, basically. No ingredients that would affect anything. Sometimes an omega will take them if they want a break from the heat suppressants. If they want to continue them in the future, it’s easier to get back to the routine of them if they are taking a daily pill. Very similar to beta birth control pills. I’ll send them off, so we know if they’re something else.” He put the perfume blockers in the pill bottle and handed them back. “Let me get the new bottle of suppressants.”

He moved to a wall of bins, and Beck growled low in his throat. “She knew. She’s supposed to check them every day.”

“Don’t be ridiculous. Do you even hear what you’re saying? Why the hell would she take placebo pills and not just stop taking them if she wanted to get her heat? Hell, she wanted us to bring them here to get looked at. Someone fucked with her meds.” I pulled him away from the counter and pushed the basket at his chest. “Go get the shit we need. We don’t need you to snap on this poor guy. It’s not his fault.”

He ripped the basket from my hands and stalked away to get the supplies we needed. I knew he was just upset that our omega had been taking an unknown substance for who knew how long, but I just hoped the progress we’d made wasn’t just wiped away.

CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE

Kayla

I stood under the warm spray of the shower, finally able to enjoy getting clean without the water moving over my sensitive skin making me horny. Just as I had expected after the first full day of my heat, things had gotten worse, but with four alphas to satisfy me, it hadn’t been bad at all. Had they not come back when they did, I would have been in even more pain as the peak of my heat hit.

There was always the possibility this was just a lull and soon I’d be craving knots all over again.

For now, I was enjoying not feeling like a sex-crazed lunatic. I was sure the guys were too.

Turning off the shower, I grabbed a clean towel and dried off. My body ached from all the different positions it had been in, and after I ate dinner, I was hoping to sleep through the night. Beck and Rylan were supposed to be grabbing pizzas on their way back from the pharmacy.
