Forgiving Nancy (Last Hangman MC, #5)(13)

“Stay safe, Nancy,” Pablo tells me sounding sad as I walk out the front door.

“Always do, Pablo.” I turn around and wink at him, almost falling on my ass in the process. I’m really not good with heels but that’s all we’re given to wear. We’re not allowed any flat shoes and I think it’s another way to make sure we can’t run away.

“Looks like it.” Pablo chuckles and closes the door behind me.

I climb into the car that’s driving me to my final destination. I’m feeling suddenly nervous, my heart is in my throat and am pretty sure that I’m going to throw up, but I have to keep a straight face and act as if everything was normal and I wasn’t planning my escape. This is my one and only chance at freedom.

My driver for the night gives me a sly look as he takes in my more than present cleavage and long bare legs.

“Looking good tonight, Nancy.”

“Eyes on the road, John.” I glare at him, not pleased with his behavior. I’m sure it’s all meant in jest to help us relax, but he has that creepy pervert look about him that chills my bones every time I see him.

“Always.” He chuckles and we drive in silence.

As usual, I have no idea where I’m taken, who the client is, what he will want or what his fetishes are. It’s incredibly unsettling not knowing who will be on the other side of the door you’re dropped off at. It could be a nice gentleman just needing company for the night or for a dinner, or if you’re unlucky it’s a f*cking pervert who’s into bondage and weird ass fetishes. I’ve had my share of those, unfortunately.

Like all the girls, I often fantasize that one of these ’dates’, as the boss calls them, will be with a nice gentleman who will fall in love with me at first sight and will fight tooth and nail to save me from this life and we’ll live happily ever after. Obviously, that has never happened because the type of clientele my boss attracts is far from gentlemanly. Would I be happy if it were to happen? Hell yes, but it wouldn’t be fair on the guy as my heart is still very much taken.

Bennett.

It’s been five years since I last saw him and I still remember his dazzling smile, his crazy but loveable personality and his perfect ass as if I only saw him yesterday. I smile to myself thinking about him.

As I’m thinking about my relationship with Bennett and the ‘what if’s, the car slowly comes to a stop.

“We’re here,” John says.

“Thanks, John.” I take a deep breath, put my hand on the handle and go to open the door.

“Don’t even think about it.” I look at him in confusion as he nods towards the handle.

“Alright. But if you try to cop a feel I swear to whatever is down there in hell that I’ll knee you in the balls.”

“Understood.” He nods and gets out of the car before rounding it and opening the car door for me. “Madame.” He smiles at me holding his hand out for me to take.

“Thank you.” I hold onto his hand, feeling grateful for his sudden act of chivalry or else I have a feeling I’d have broken an ankle. On second thoughts, that might have been a good idea I could have gone to the hospital and escape there.

“I’d say that it was my pleasure but I don’t like dropping you ladies off in these random places.” He sighs.

“Why do you do it then?” I ask, my curiosity piqued by his admission.

“Because I need the money,” he says, having the decency to look ashamed at himself.

“Why not be a taxi driver?”

“Because this pays a lot more.”

“But it’s weighing on your conscience. Can you look in your wife’s eyes every morning when you wake up and every night when you go to bed knowing what you’ve been doing all day?” I get that people need money but f*ck, this isn’t something anyone should willingly do.

“Yes, but it’s getting harder and harder every day.”

“You’ve got to do whatever is best for you, John.” I pat his shoulder and walk towards the door.

This is it.

This is my end.

This is my new beginning.

CHAPTER 5

Bennett

Callum’s intense gaze pins me to my chair from across the Chapel table. Unlike Gabe, he doesn’t try to understand why you’re not yourself; he just wants to fix it. I know he’s had a rough past, being in the military and all, but I don’t know much else about him. All I know is that from time to time he’ll just disappear and reappear. Right now he’s been staring at me and studying my every move, for the past five minutes and it’s unsettling. He, as well as the others, is probably wondering why I called for a meeting in the middle of the night. Usually I’d have waited until the morning but this is top priority matter. This is about Nancy, my Gorgeous Girl.

It doesn’t take look for a few more Brothers to show up. I could have rounded up the entire MC, but time is of the essence here and we need to act fast.

“What’s going on, Bennett?” Ant asks me, clearly not happy with being taken away from Ayden and his kids in the middle of the night.

“Sorry for calling you out of your beds and women in the middle of the night. I wasn’t planning on it but I got an important phone call about an old friend of mine an hour ago. She was kidnapped five years ago and hasn’t been seen since,” I sigh and take a minutes to gather my thoughts, “the cops gave up looking for her a long time ago because to them she’s just another runaway teenager.”
