Trusting You (Second Chances #2)(14)

Sheepishly, he glanced back at me over his shoulder while slipping on a pair of clean boxers. “I had them in my car … you know, just in case.”

Smiling, I folded my arms across my chest and lifted an eyebrow. “Just in case what?” I questioned sarcastically.

He laughed and threw his towel at my head. “I packed them in the car just in case I stayed over. I’m glad I did because if I didn’t I was going to have to leave you to go get some, and I didn’t want to have to leave in case this shit happened with you thinking I left you. However, it happened anyway so I guess it didn’t really matter.”

Once he was dressed he came over and kissed me on the lips. “I wanted to spend every single moment with you before I left tonight. This week is going to be a busy one for me, and I’m not sure how much time I’m going to have to see you. I want today to be all about us.”

My smile faded, but he grabbed my hand and led me to the kitchen. I smelled eggs, bacon, and maple syrup. My stomach growled and protested inside my body; it was mad at me since I didn’t eat the night before. Brett had a plate all stacked high for me with everything on it and three huge pancakes with butter on top. I was in heaven.

Once we were seated with our plates of food and huge glasses of orange juice, I realized that he knew a lot about me, but I barely knew him. That needed to change.

“How much do you work during the week?” I asked.

Brett took a bite of eggs and furrowed his brows. “Let’s see … some weeks, depending on if I have to travel or not, I’ll find myself working about fifty to sixty hours a week. It’s a lot, but I haven’t exactly needed to divide my time if you know what I mean.”

Incredulously, I stared at him with my mouth wide open. “Are you saying you haven’t been dating anyone?”

He shrugged noncommittally. “I have, but no one worth my time. I haven’t slept with anyone since you that night three months ago.”

My glass of orange juice halted at my lips. Was he serious? “I don’t believe that,” I said boldly. “You expect me to believe that you haven’t slept with another woman since our one night stand?”

“That’s what I’m saying, firecracker. Take it for what it’s worth, but it’s the truth. I told you I hadn’t found anyone quite like you and now I don’t have to worry about that anymore.”

His gaze found my lips as I chewed my food slowly, and he stared, licking his lips while a slight moan escaped his throat. “You know, I just realized something,” he remarked huskily. “I love the way your mouth moves when you eat.” Just wait till you feel the way my mouth moves over your cock. The thought crossed my mind and I couldn’t help but drop my fork and laugh.

Curious and narrowing his eyes, he retorted, “Enlighten me, Melissa? What were you just thinking?” I’m thinking about how good you’re going to taste, I thought to myself.

Smirking, I waved him off. “Oh, you’ll find that out later.”

When I didn’t elaborate, he stabbed a bundle of eggs with his fork. “Okay, I see how you want to be. Just know that two can play at that game.”

Rolling my eyes, I finished my breakfast and carried my plate to the kitchen, putting it in the sink. “So what do you want to do today? I have a pool. We can always go swimming,” I suggested hopefully. The sun was out and it was a glorious Sunday morning. The only thing I needed to do was work on lesson plans for the week, but I could get that done in about an hour.

Brett joined me in the kitchen and washed off his plate before putting it in the dishwasher with mine. “That sounds good. We can do that this morning, and this afternoon you can go somewhere with me.”

“Where?” I asked, smiling.

“You’ll see,” he replied. “I have somewhere I have to go and I want you to come with me. It may give you some insight on who I really am. I know you’re curious to know all about me.”

I was intrigued.

Pulling me away from the sink, Brett took my hands and held my arms out away from my body. “Okay, I think the clothes need to go before we get in the pool,” he insisted.

I rolled my eyes and laughed. “Yeah, I know that. I need to go put my bathing suit on.”

Brett pulled me to him and held me tight against his body, which was coming to life that very next second. “I think you misunderstand,” he growled in my ear. “I want you naked in the pool. No bathing suit … just you.”

My neighbors didn’t live too close, and I had a privacy fence, but it still made me nervous. “Are you sure that’s wise?” I asked. “What if my neighbors see?”

Brett slid my shorts down my legs and captured my underwear along with them, taking them to the floor. Holding onto his shoulders, I lifted my feet so my shorts could finally be free. On his knees on the floor, Brett slid his hands up my thighs and gazed up at me, biting his lip. “Your neighbors aren’t going to see a damn thing. I went out there this morning and took a look around. Your backyard is pretty well hidden.”

I shook my head and chuckled. “So you knew what you wanted to do this morning,” I said as a statement and not a question.

His wolfish grin was answer enough.

Eight

Before running outside to the pool, we made a bet: the last one in had to clean the dishes from breakfast. I won, which didn’t make Brett too happy. Laughing, I splashed him with water and rubbed it in. “I told you I would win, but you didn’t listen.”
