Wanting Winter(13)
“Hey man, I'm trying to do you a favor. If you want to get a constant case of blue balls, be my guest,” he huffs sitting back in his seat.
“Trust me. So far, I'm nowhere near that.” I wink at him and I notice his jaw tick. I smirk sitting in my seat. Least that shut him up.
I can’t wait until I'm with Winter again. That girl is in my head, and right now I just want to hold her.
Five
Winter
Before lunch, I notice Candice not acting like her bubbly self: she seems a little-pissed off; I'm sure Joshua is the cause of it. I did try to warn her. She basically ignores me through class, but once we are dismissed I'm going to have to talk to her.
We are dismissed, I pack my things away and almost bounce out of my seat: I can't wait to see Trent. Candice is already heading towards the door, so I run after her, calling out her name. When I get to her, I take hold of her hand. “Candice, are you okay?” I ask concerned.
“Yeah, I'm fine, just having one of those days,” she huffs. “Men are assholes.”
I link my arm through hers walking towards the cafeteria. “What did Joshua do? I told you he was a dick.”
“I mean men in general. Am I not pretty? Am I not good enough?”
I stop walking, making her stop with me, making her face me. Where is all this coming from? “Candice, you are drop-dead gorgeous; men basically fall at your feet,” I reassure her. We start walking again, and I notice Trent sitting next to Drake. I guide us toward them.
“Well, there must be something wrong with me.”
Someone must have said something to her. I swear I want to cunt punch whoever upset my friend. This is unlike her to put herself down. When we get in front of Trent and Drake, Trent smiles at me, but I see it’s a little forced.
“Trent, tell Candice that she is drop-dead gorgeous,” I tell him. He's a guy; he surely knows that Candice isn’t ugly or anything. He may be with me, but he ain't blind.
“You want me to tell your best friend that she is gorgeous even though you're my girlfriend?” he asks in a weak voice.
I smile at his cuteness. “You are too cute. Yes tell her; she is feeling a little down.”
“It’s okay. See. I'm not that pretty.” She sits next to Drake and I notice he is looking at me before he looks away, and I scrunch up my face a little confused before shaking it off.
“Candice, you are beautiful; I wish I looked like you. You normally have this confident thing going on, and to me that’s sexy. What man could say no to you?” I sit next to Trent, and she looks between me and him.
“Maybe other men don’t find that attractive.” She shrugs.
“Trent, what do you think?” I ask him and he almost chokes on his drink. I kiss his cheek, and he turns facing me with a serious look.
“I like a girl who doesn’t know how beautiful she is, that doesn’t know she’s beautiful inside as well as out—a girl who cares for others and is sweet, kind and funny. To me, that is attractive.” His eyes pierce into mine and my heart starts to flutter.
“I think you’re with the wrong girl then,” I joke, but he doesn’t smile; he just keeps staring at me. Him looking at me like that makes me want him to throw me onto this table and do very, very bad things to me.
“So you don’t find a girl who knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to get it, appealing?” Candice interrupts and I look away, but I am sure my face is flushed.
“Not really. Sometimes, it comes out as bitchy and bossy, and what’s attractive about that?” he tells her, and I see she isn’t happy about that answer.
I butt in. “Men like women who take control—who aren’t afraid to make the first move.”
“Yeah, but if the guy was interested in the first place, he would make the first move anyway, just like I did with you.” He looks from Candice to me. “I told you, once I’d seen you I had to talk to you.”
“I'm so happy you did. I wasn’t interested in any guy, or interested in being in any kind of relationship, but you are hard to say no to.” I give him a cheeky smile.
He pulls my chair so I'm closer to him, leaning towards me. “If you had knocked me back, I would have worn you down eventually until you’d given me a chance.” He winks at me causing me to giggle.
“You two are too sickly to watch. Get a room,” Candice says.
I pull my chair back to where I was and laugh. “Sorry, but, Trent, come on, from a guy’s point of view, isn’t she hot? I'm asking you as a hot-blooded man, not my boyfriend.” I feel giddy by saying, boyfriend.
He looks at her, she smiles at him waiting for his reply.
“You are gorgeous, you look flawless, any guy has to be blind to not see the appeal.”
She smiles at him again.
“See, feel better now?” I ask her.
“Very much so, but you wouldn’t go for a girl like me?” she asks him.
He shakes his head. “No, I wouldn’t. I told Winter I used to be with different girls, many just like you, but underneath it all, they are insecure and fake. They aren’t who they pretend to be. They expect too much of people. The girls I've been with wanted what they couldn’t have and would ruin people’s lives just to get it.” His voice becomes a little sterner.
