Posing for the Omega (For the Alpha #2)(4)

“I need to talk to Dey. She knows something about the blood wolves.” Maybe something that could change everything.

“You’re right, Ira, I do,” Dey said from behind us. Startled we turned to face the she-wolf in her second form, her brown hair long and freckles littering her skin. Today she looked so different from her normal bright self. Just like the night before, she was tense and wouldn’t meet my eyes.

“Dey, what happened last night?” How did I change? Why did I change? What were you telling me? Why did you follow me into the woods? Why didn’t you tell my alpha? All the questions didn’t need to be voiced, it was obvious.

“You passed out, and then you shifted. I brought you out of the forest. I didn’t want the alpha to know that you’d been in the forest, not before I could talk to you.” A stray tear trailed down her cheek as the older she wolf shivered. “I’m sorry, I should have said something. I know these wolves.”

“His name is Hexis.” Dey started.

“Wait, slow down,” I looked to see who could hear us. “Let’s go into your den,” I said walking to the she wolf’s private area, Koda right on my heels.

“What the hell is going on?” Koda asked, completely lost. He, of course, continued to stare up past my head, and I made sure to keep an eye on him. I don’t know what got into him, but he seemed to be staring at my ass a lot.

“Not out here.” I said, looking around before we all walked into Dey’s den sitting down in the small space so we would fit. Not that fitting was hard for me in my current form.

“Ok. Why don’t you start by telling me the truth about your last pack? Start from the beginning.” I asked Dey as my stomach rumbled loudly. Mother humping bat bits, could I just have one hour without dealing with my pregnant urges?

Dey wiped at her damp cheeks and chuckled. “I think your pups are hungry.”

“Just ignore it, the little monsters are always hungry,” I mumbled.

“Wait till they’re born and latched onto you all the time.” Dey sniffled out another laugh.

Koda grunted, and I swear I saw him look down at my nipples before he looked away again his right eye twitching. “That’s a gross thought.” He said while looking anywhere but at me — the asshat.

“Yeah, don’t worry about them, they will feed off my body for now. This conversation is more important. Now start talking, Dey.” I was being more forceful than I’d normally be, It wasn’t my nature to push but I would if it protected my alpha and the pack.

Dey nodded solemnly. “Ok. I’ll start from the beginning. I was born in a pack far to the east of this pack. It wasn’t very big maybe only fifteen wolves total. I was part of my dama’s first litter, the same litter she had when she found Vey in the woods not far from the pack lands. She told us she felt compelled to take him in. It was years before Vey could shift, but even so, he was accepted into our little pack easily. Vey was smaller than you, Ira, in his—” She paused for a second lost for words but she picked up again in a rush. “Middle form, but in his second form he was the same size as you are now.” She nodded towards my pitifully small body.

I looked down at my bare pale stomach and all the way to my tiny toes. I somehow doubted the wolves from last night were like this in their second forms. “The wolves from last night were not this size,” I sneered, causing Koda and Dey’s eyes to widen, surprised by my sudden show of animosity. Wow, I was being a hangry bitch.

“Anyways, let me continue. Vey mated a male wolf in line to be alpha of our pack his name was Tovu. They loved each other, and it was obvious. The competition for Vey’s affection had been over dramatic. I don’t know how he settled on one male.”

My eyebrows climbed into my hairline. “They competed for his affection? Are you serious?” That sounded like a big pile of doe antlers (for those of you who do not know, does don’t have antlers).

Dey nodded. “I swear. All the males in the pack did anything in their power to get his attention. It was utter chaos for a while, but that’s beside the point. Vey mated with Tovu and became pregnant with his litter shortly after. Vey didn’t have any complications with his pregnancy, they were birthed as effortlessly as any she wolf’s pups would be. He loved his pups like any dama would love them, all of them were born wolves, all except one. The pup was born in his wolf form and normal till a few years later when he shifted into his middle form. His name was Lathos, and he was very different from Vey.” The older she wolf sighed rubbed the skin on her knees in an anxious movement. “I’m sorry, but I try to forget that any of this ever happened.” More tears welled up in her eyes as she looked away, staring at the den wall.

“Dey,” I leaned forward to press a gentle hand over her heart. Her skin was flushed and hot as her heart galloped under my hand like a rabbit caught in a wolf’s teeth right before its death. “Whatever happened we need to know. It could save our pack. Think about your pups. We need to keep them safe.”

The older she wolf’s shoulders tensed and her eyes hardened her attention focusing back on Koda and me. “You’re right. I’m not a pup anymore. I can do this.” Dey took a deep settling breath and continued her story. “The pups name was Lathos, and he was very different from the others. Out of all the pups Vey had he was the only one that shifted to his middle form, and he was the only one that was violent. There was a bloodlust in the pup’s heart that started from a young age. It took a while for pack members to notice, but it became more obvious when they’d find dead animals torn apart but not eaten. It wasn’t until Vey caught the youth torturing a baby deer that he understood the depravity of his child’s mind. Lathos swore he wouldn’t do it again if it upset his dama, but he did, again, and again, and again. Until one day he was playing with his sister Savina in the woods, we all heard her scream. It was a horrible sound. By the time the pack got there, Lathos had—” Dey had shivered, and a harsh breath escaped her. “H-he tore her apart.” A sob stuttered out of the older she wolf. It was enough to make me wrap my arms around her and hold her close. Hearing something so awful I was starting to understand why she didn’t want to accept her ugly past. I also knew it was only going to get worse. Dey pulled away from me avoiding Koda’s and my eyes.
