Only Mine (Honey Mountain #5)(70)

“I had some business there, yes.”

“Dilly, weren’t you there, too? My dad said your father had an accident but that he was okay,” Seb asked, but he stared at his brother as he spoke.

“I was home for a few days, waiting for him to be released from the hospital.”

“Uncle Jack is a badass, man. You can’t keep that guy down,” Hugh said as a tray of tequila shots arrived, and the server set them down beside Seb. Wolf groaned.

“What a kawinky-dink that you were both there.” Seb raised a brow and handed his brother a shot glass before passing the rest out to everyone else.

“Cheers to seeing our girl on stage,” Seb said, and we all tipped our heads back, letting the cool liquid slide down our throats. “I think I might have a song or two in me.”

“Good god. This is going to be a long night,” Wolf groaned, and Hugh patted him on the back and laughed.

The first woman to get up on stage looked like a college student and sang her best rendition of Madonna’s “Like A Virgin.” She slurred her words and giggled multiple times, but the crowd cheered her on. That was what I loved about this place.

“When will you be gracing us with your presence?” Wolf whispered in my ear, and his fingers traced along the back of my neck.

I’d turned down the next few rounds of shots, and so had Wolf and Hugh. But everyone else was having a good time. I noticed Sabine keeping her distance from her boyfriend, but I didn’t know what that was about. Z seemed to be drinking heavily, and he’d clearly made up for his fast, as he was downing nachos like he hadn’t eaten in weeks.

“I’m going to sing one for you, baby,” Z slurred as he pushed to his feet.

Wolf’s shoulders stiffened, and he looked between Z and Sabine, and his jaw ticked.

“She’s not leaving here with him,” he said against my ear.

I heard my cousin talking to Wolf on his other side, and I knew Hugh well enough to know that he was offering any backup Wolf might need if things got messy. Seb was completely unaware as he continued to make another play with the cute waitress, who was paying him a lot of attention. The girls beside him didn’t seem to mind at all.

“Hey there, karaoke peeps!” Z shouted through the microphone, and I cringed because he was talking too close to the mic, and anyone who knew karaoke etiquette knew to hold it away from your mouth a bit. “This one is for my girlfriend. I love you, baby.”

“Oh, God,” Sabine whispered.

Z proceeded to sing Beck’s “Loser” completely off-key, and he didn’t keep up with the pacing of the song, so it was a complete disaster. The crowd booed him, which was not typical. You had to be really off your game to get them that annoyed. Sabine looked mortified.

“How about I have Gallan pull up and take him home? You’re not going with him, though,” Wolf said.

“Trust me. You don’t have to twist my arm. I broke up with him tonight. That’s why I wanted you to meet me here, because I didn’t know if he’d take it well.”

My jaw fell open. “Oh, okay. You’ve had enough?”

“He admitted that he cheated on me with his ex-girlfriend last week. But he was being relentless about getting together to talk about it, so I agreed to meet him out. It’s done, and I couldn’t be happier about it.”

Wolf was on his feet, and Hugh was right behind him as if they’d already discussed this. When Z strode off the stage, they both walked on each side of him and led him right out the door.

They weren’t gone long.

When they came back in the bar, Wolf looked tense, and he paused to speak to Seb on the other side of the table.

Hugh walked over to me and bent down to speak in my ear. “Damn, Dilly. Your boyfriend is a badass. I don’t think Sabine will need to worry about Z.”

I didn’t know what had happened, but I got the feeling Wolf scared the life out of him. But I glanced up at my cousin and shook my head. “He’s not my boyfriend.”

“Sure, he isn’t. Now go kick some ass on stage.”

And that’s exactly what I planned to do.

Wolf

I wanted to be agitated. Wanted to be pissed off after escorting Z to the car while the little shit had a meltdown, insisting that he’d only cheated on my sister once. I’d slammed his ass against the car and told him that I’d have eyes on him, and if he came anywhere near her again, I’d know it.

My hands were fisted, and I ordered a glass of whiskey to calm my nerves. And then Dylan took the stage.

Hugh clinked his glass against mine and smirked. “You’re going to enjoy this.”

I liked her cousin. He was a cool dude. Reminded me of the guys on my SEAL team in the Navy. I was good at reading people, and this guy was a cool cat.

I sipped my cocktail while Seb continued flirting his ass off with the three women surrounding him, completely clueless about the fact that our sister had been upset. But she’d rebounded quickly. She’d run into a few friends, and they’d come to our table to talk to her.

“Who’s in the mood for a little Hammer Time?” Dylan purred into the microphone as if she were completely comfortable standing up in front of this crowd.
