Only Mine (Honey Mountain #5)(56)

Her hands tangled in my hair, and I breathed her in. She smelled like baby powder and cupcakes because she was always baking with her mama.

Vivi came running around the corner and lunged at me. “I missed you, Dilly.”

“Missed you, too.” The three of us stood there hugging as the door flew open, and one by one, everyone piled in, and we spent the next hour feeding the little humans and then ourselves, all while talking a mile a minute just like we always did.

We were sitting around Vivi’s dining table, Paisley and Hadley were watching a Disney movie with little Bee, and Jackson had dozed off in his car seat, which was sitting on the kitchen island where Everly could keep her eyes on him.

“Spill. You were MIA last night. Did something happen after that office orgasm?” Charlie asked as she sipped her wine.

The table erupted in laughter, and I batted my lashes. I told my sisters everything, and that had most definitely surprised us all yesterday.

“Let’s just say, I returned the favor in the elevator.” I shrugged.

“Oh my gosh, I take Jackson in that elevator,” Everly said over her laughter.

“Well, there was no one on the elevator with us, so I went for it.”

“I thought you banned blow jobs?”

“I don’t normally like bowing down to a man, but this was different. He had it coming.” I waggled my brows. “No pun intended.”

More laughter, and it felt so good to be here with them.

“And then what?” Ashlan’s eyes were wide. “Did you both just go home?”

“We did. Together. And it was some book-worthy sex, I can promise you that.”

“I’m definitely putting an elevator blow job in my next book. That’s so hot.” Ashlan typed into the notes app on her phone. She told us that was the life of an author, always observing and taking things in.

“It is hot,” Charlotte whispered.

“It really is. And it was a good night? Were you dying to get rid of him after?” Vivian asked because she knew me well.

“Nope. It happened again this morning. And then again in the shower before I left. And we decided to continue doing it until we don’t want to do it anymore. We even have a safe word, so we just say the word when we want to be done. No pressure at all.”

“Wow.” Everly studied me. “You like him. And there’s no doubt he likes you after the way he nearly lost his mind when Seb’s friend was talking to you at the game a few weeks ago. The man was so protective, I couldn’t help but laugh.”

“That’s just who he is. It’s not personal.” I sipped my wine, but thoughts of how irate he’d been flooded my mind. It was sexy and hot, and I didn’t mind it one bit, which surprised me. It usually annoyed me when a man tried to interfere with things that I could handle myself.

“It sure sounds personal,” Ashlan said. “You already work together and text when you aren’t together, and now you’re sleeping together? It kind of sounds like a relationship.” She chuckled.

“It’s not. It’s an agreement. And enough about my non-relationship. Tell me what’s happening here.”

“Well, we’re going to take the kids trick-or-treating tomorrow night, and then we’re going to go to Beer Mountain afterward. Everyone will be there.”

“That sounds like a plan. I hope we don’t see that ball scratcher, Tobias.” I laughed, and each one of them fell back in their chair, doing the same.

“I’m glad you’re home,” Charlie said, wrapping an arm over my shoulder.

“Me, too. There’s no place I’d rather be.”

Well, maybe in Wolf’s bed if I were being honest.

But I’d keep that one to myself.

“Thanks for going trick-or-treating with them,” Bullet said through the speaker in my car.

“Of course. You know I’d do anything for your family.”

“Yeah. Jaqueline is pissed. She’s not happy that I’m heading out again soon.”

I knew where he was going, and it was dangerous as hell. I understood why she was pissed, but I also understood his need to lead the guys on this mission. It was a young team, and he was training them before he officially retired. At least, that was what he kept telling me.

“She wants you home, brother. The boys want their dad home. It’s time.”

“I know. I swear I’m ready, Wolf. I just want to make sure these guys can handle it. Last mission. I’ll be gone for a couple of weeks, and then I’ll be ready to make retirement official.”

It wasn’t the first time I’d heard this from him, and I feared it wouldn’t be the last. Being a SEAL was in his blood. The adrenaline, the rush—it could be addicting. He thrived on missions, and he was damn good at his job. The best, actually. The dude I trusted most with my own life.

“I hear you. And you’ll have a job waiting for you with the Lions when you’re ready.”

“Thanks, brother. So, tell me about this girl you’ve been working with. You sounded irritated last time we spoke, but I know you well enough to know when you’re into someone. Probably because it never happened in all the time that we worked together.” He laughed, and Bullet’s laugh was gruff and loud and boisterous and always had people turning to stare at us. “Not that you didn’t pull the ladies. You just didn’t ever get invested.”
