Only Mine (Honey Mountain #5)(34)

His broad shoulders strained against his dress shirt as he stood with his back to me. I’d noticed some ink beneath his dress shirt, and I’d tried a few times to make out what it was when he wasn’t looking, but I’d yet to have the chance.

He and his father were deep in conversation as they looked out at the ice. Everyone else was wearing jerseys to support their favorite players, and Wolf was the only one who was still dressed for work.

“This is one of the perks of working for the team,” Sebastian said, as he guided us over to the bar. “What can I get you to drink?”

“I’m still nursing, so just water for me.” Everly smiled as she cranked her neck to look out on the rink. This was a big deal for her to be up here, as she usually sat down by the ice and wasn’t very social during games. I got it. She was Hawk’s biggest fan, and she wanted to focus. I’d already promised her that if it was too distracting, we’d both just sneak out and go down to the seats that she and Hawk had for us.

But, I thought I should at least be seen, right? I was trying to secure a job with this organization. It had nothing to do with the fact that I knew Wolf would be here. He hadn’t shared a car with me in days and had barely looked in my direction.

I didn’t care at all.

And that wasn’t the reason I was wearing my most fitted skinny jeans that made my ass look like I did thousands of squats a day, nor was it the reason that I’d cropped my Hawk Madden jersey at my waist to show off said ass.

“I’ll take a light beer, please.” I moved beside him as he handed a water to Everly, and she told me she was going to go find a seat for us. There were literally less than ten people in this suite at the moment, and there were plenty of seats for us to choose from. But I nodded and told her I’d bring some food over to her.

“My kind of girl. Beer and sliders, huh?” Seb chuckled.

“Absolutely.”

“Is Everly always this nervous before games?” he asked as he handed me a beer and led me over to the buffet.

“Yep. She takes it pretty seriously, but that’s what happens when you’re married to the GOAT, right?”

He chuckled as someone I didn’t recognize entered the suite and called his name. He didn’t appear pleased, but he forced a smile and leaned close to my ear. “Excuse me for a minute. You’ve got to love when uninvited guests show up.”

I took a swig of my beer and started piling my plate full of deliciousness.

“I see you still have the palette of a toddler.” Wolf’s voice was gruff, and my stomach flipped at his nearness.

What the hell was up with that? I didn’t do butterflies in the belly or act giddy around a guy.

Maybe it was the combo of the sexy man and the bar food.

Yes, that had to be it.

“I see you still have your charming personality.”

I tried to pile one more slider on my plate, and it wouldn’t balance. He raised a brow, and I swear I saw the smallest smile trying to take over his frustratingly handsome face.

“What? It’s for me and for Everly. And she’s nursing, so we’re basically eating for three.” I shrugged, and he reached for a new plate, taking the full one from my hands. His fingers grazed mine, and it was like an electric shock straight to my vajazzle.

Holy hormones, this was not good. I squeezed my thighs together, which wasn’t easy in these painted-on jeans. I needed to get my lady bits under control.

Maybe it was because I hadn’t had sex in quite a while.

This must be my body telling me that I need a release.

It has nothing to do with Wolf; he just happens to be the man standing beside me.

“I’ve got this one. Fill another one, and I’ll follow you over.” His voice was even, and I glanced up to see him staring at Seb and his friend.

“Do you know that guy? I don’t think he was invited.” I placed a few chicken fingers on my plate before deciding to just eat one right now. Wolf seemed distracted, so I may as well eat and enjoy the show.

His jaw was peppered with a little more scruff than usual today, and my fingers itched to see what it would feel like.

“It’s pretty tough to get up here without some sort of invite or clearance. But yes, I know him. He’s an old friend of Seb’s, who he used to get into a shit ton of trouble with, and I prefer my brother stay away from him.”

Duke Wayburn glanced over, and I noticed his neck was bright red as he stared at his youngest son speaking to his friend. Seb and his friend made their way to the bar, and Sebastian ordered them each a beer, but he looked tense.

Wolf watched them as he stood beside me, a few feet from them.

“I wonder how many people wished their kids would have stayed away from me?” I asked as I took another bite of my chicken finger.

He studied me for an unusual amount of time. “I’ll bet you were trouble, Minx.”

“I mean, it was small-time crimes like ding-dong-ditching and toilet papering the neighbors’ houses. But my sisters never met a rule they didn’t follow, so I was definitely the lone wolf in that department—no pun intended.” I laughed because the wolf jokes were just too easy.

“Why doesn’t that surprise me?”

“Probably because you’ve been lucky enough to spend time with me and see how dazzling I am up close and personal.” I winked. “Might I add, these have to be the best chicken fingers I’ve ever had. They must use some sort of special, highfalutin oil.”
