Devastated (Anger Management, #1)(50)

“Carrying a couch up a flight of stairs was easier on your back?” she asked with a curious tilt of her head as she studied him, noting the way that his expression softened when he looked at her as she thought about the way he kissed her, like he couldn’t get enough only…

He never touched her.

“It was therapeutic,” Hunter said, leaning in to brush his lips against hers.

“It sounds it,” Kylie said, smiling against his lips as she slid her hands up his stomach, noting the way that his muscles tightened beneath her touch, the way he groaned as his hands began to move towards her back only to return to her hips and stay there.

Just like they did every time he kissed her.

When she’d first started dating David, everything had been awkward, making small talk over dinner, going for a drive, the way he’d held her hand, the way he’d touched her, but it had been the way that he’d kissed her that had left her feeling cold. She’d hated the way he’d kissed her and if she hadn’t been so desperate to belong to someone, she would have realized that there was something off about him. He’d never tried to make her feel comfortable, never made sure that she knew how much he wanted her, needed her, and Hunter…

“Oh, God,” he groaned, his hold on her hips tightened when she shifted to get closer as her breath caught in her throat when the move brought her against the proof that he wanted her, which made her wonder…

Why was he holding back?

Chapter 27

Oh, fuck, Hunter thought as he dropped his head back, wondering how much longer he was going to be able to do this.

For as long as she needed him to, he reminded himself as he sat there, slowly exhaling as he tried not to think about just how good it felt to have her sitting on his lap. It didn’t matter how much he wanted her, and God, did he fucking want her, he was going to do this right. He was going to take his time, showing her how much he wanted her, how much he needed her, and pray that it didn’t kill him in the process, he thought with a humorless chuckle cause God, was this fucking killing him.

With any other woman, he wouldn’t have bothered, but then again, he’d never wanted anyone the way that he wanted Kylie. She was just so fucking sweet and-

“I’m clean,” the woman that was testing his control said, drawing his attention to find Kylie worrying her bottom lip.

“I see,” Hunter murmured as he leaned back and watched the woman that was driving him out of his fucking mind.

“I don’t know what was in that report, but I have a pretty good idea and I just wanted to let you that I’m clean. I’ve only been with one man and I’m sure you know by now that he was-”

“A fucking loser,” he supplied for her, allowing himself to notice all those things that he’d been trying not to think about as he ran his eyes over her short legs that felt so damn good entwined with his at night, noted the way that her vintage Coca Cola tee shirt hugged the generous curves of her breasts, and the way her ass felt pressed against his cock.

“I was gonna say gross,” Kylie said, sighing heavily.

“I said it better,” Hunter murmured, reaching up to push a strand of her hair back behind her ear.

“Fine,” Kylie said, blindly waving it off before she continued, “but that wasn’t the point.”

“What was the point?” Hunter asked, wondering if she had any idea just how fucking adorable she was.

“That I’m clean. He’d barely touched me and-” she started to explain only to cut herself off with a, “I got tested.”

Since he already knew that…

“Why are you telling me this?”

“Because I thought that was why…” Kylie said, shaking her head with a heavy sigh before mumbling, “Never mind,” as she moved to climb off his lap.

“I have no idea how many women I’ve been with,” Hunter said, stopping her from leaving.

“Oh,” she said softly, as he watched her small shoulders sag.

“I’m not a saint and I’m not going to pretend that I am, but I’ve never lied to a woman to get what I wanted. I’ve never seen the point. That being said, I haven’t been with a woman in over two years, I always use a condom, I’m clean, and I want you, Kylie.”

“You do?” she asked with a shy smile that broke him.

“You have no fucking idea how much I want you,” he ground out, deciding that he’d waited long enough.

---

“Are you okay?” came the softly spoken words that had Kylie absently reaching out and toying with one of the buttons on his shirt, because now that she was here, she wasn’t sure that she could actually do this. She thought…she thought…God, she didn’t even know what she was thinking right now.

“Kylie?” Hunter said, as she felt his lips press against her forehead.

“I don’t know what I’m supposed to do,” she admitted, feeling her breath catch as she felt his arms come around her.

“What do you want to do?” he asked, as he pressed another kiss against her forehead.

“I don’t know,” Kylie said, wishing that she had some idea of what she was supposed to do right now, but the only man that she’d been with had been David and they hadn’t done very much. It had always been awkward, quick, and left her feeling disappointed, and she didn’t want it to be that way with Hunter.
