Steal the Night (Thieves #5)(64)
“God, Z,” Daniel groaned when he let me up for air. “You’re everything to me. I live off your blood. I fill my every sense with you, your scent, your taste, the sound of your laugh. I can close my eyes and see every inch of you. You can’t blame me for being worried about losing you.”
It was the way Marcus had talked about Venice, his city, his home. I was Daniel’s home and he hadn’t lost me. The club was just a place, and while I might miss it, I was home as long as I had Danny and Dev. “I love you, Danny,” I said against his lips as I stretched up to kiss him. “As long as we’re together, everything is going to be all right. We stick together, baby. That’s all we have any control over.”
“It was the whole reason we came together in the first place,” Dev said from behind me. “We’re stronger together than we are apart.”
Daniel’s smile was wistful as he remembered that night they told me we were going to be a threesome. “I thought we did it because we both wanted to f*ck Z, and it was either do it together or we could kill each other.”
Dev laughed. “Well, you have to admit that the one left standing would have to deal with a very angry Zoey.”
“I’m a very confused Zoey,” I admitted.
“Confused about what, my lover?” Dev asked, nipping my ear.
“I want to know what happened between the two of you in Faery. I want to know why you won’t talk about it,” I explained quietly. “Do you think I’ll be angry? Do you think I’ll accuse you of cheating on me?”
There was really only one reason for the tension between them. Only one I could think of.
Daniel shook his head. “It didn’t go that far.”
“Only because we were interrupted with news of your miscarriage,” Dev said. He backed away, and I missed his hands on me. “That’s right, my goddess. You were losing our child and Daniel and I were drunk and playing around.”
“I told you it wasn’t our fault, Dev. We didn’t cause it.” Danny kept his distance, but I could hear in his voice that this was an argument they’d had more than once.
“Not everyone thinks that way. Fate has a way of punishing hubris, Daniel.” Dev leaned back against the stone of the shower.
I wasn’t about to allow him to pull away from me, too. Especially not over something utterly foolish. I left the warm stream of water and did what we should have done months ago. I placed my body against his, went skin to skin so there wasn’t any distance between us. I let my hands stroke along his skin, trying to ease him. I couldn’t stand the fact that he’d held this inside.
“Please tell me Declan wasn’t the one who found you.” I could only imagine that he would have made it so much worse. It would explain his intense hatred for Daniel. It had become even worse after my miscarriage. Now I knew why.
“He practically relished telling us the news,” Daniel admitted.
“He simply pointed out that if we’d been with Zoey, it might not have happened.” Dev’s hands finally started to move on me. He dropped his head to mine, and I could feel his whole body sigh as though he was deeply relieved.
Had they really thought I would be angry?
“You couldn’t have stopped it. If they hadn’t gotten to me with the cursed tea, they would have found another way. You were doing your job and being with your partner. It’s your right, Devinshea. It’s Daniel’s right. You should take pleasure and comfort from each other.”
Daniel stayed on his side of the shower. “Zoey, we made a mistake that night.”
I kissed Dev’s chest and turned to stare down my husband. I was done with this argument. “Yeah, you really did. You didn’t finish. You would have felt a shit ton better if you had, and maybe you wouldn’t have gotten so angry with each other. Damn it. How many times do I have to tell you? I want us all together. You and Dev talk about how you feel safe because if something happens to either of you, you know the other one will love me. I want that, too. I want to know that the men who love me love each other, too.” I wouldn’t have said the words if I didn’t believe they were already true. If Daniel and Dev hadn’t been attracted to each other, I would have been content, but there was an electricity in the room when they got close. It was unmistakable. Undeniable. I couldn’t see how it was wrong.
Daniel took a deep breath, and I watched as he made a decision. He unhooked the fly of his jeans and pushed them off his hips, tossing them to the side before closing the space between us. The minute he stepped close, Dev moved beside me again as though Daniel making his choice had broken the tension.
“I do love him,” Daniel said achingly as he dropped his mouth to mine. “I love you both. But I’ve loved you as long as I can remember. I never thought I would love anyone else.”
“I love you, Daniel. Nothing else ever has to come of it. It’s enough,” Dev said, emotion thickening his tone. “What we have is more than enough for me.”
It wasn’t enough for me, but I thought arguing that I wanted to see them get down and dirty when I finally had them admitting they loved each other would be a little tacky.
Even though I really, really wanted to see it.
Dev covered my back, his hands coming around to skim down my torso. He moved me closer to Daniel, forcing our bodies together. They had me trapped, and I couldn’t think of a single place I wanted to be more than in between them.
