Walker (Bowen Boys, #1)(51)

He didn’t mind really. He loved this part of his job more than anything. Bringing new life into the world to make it a better place. Walker sat back down and took care of the business of the mother and was just about to check on the baby again when he felt the fusion of fear from Caitlynne.

“I don’t…can you come to me?”

He nodded to his nurse and walked out of the room as Caitlynne continued.

“I’m afraid and I don’t know what to do.”

He reached blindly for the counter. If she was afraid then he was out of him mind with it. Trying to be as gentle as he could, he sent her his love and security and spoke to her without moving. He wasn’t even sure that he could.

“What is it, love? Have you called Khan? He and the others can be there faster than I can. But I’m coming. Do you have your gun?”

“I can’t carry it.”

Christ, he thought, she was hurt badly if she couldn’t hold her gun. He was pretty sure she slept with it under the pillow, but had never checked. “I’m contacting my brothers. They can be there in—”

“No,” she screamed though his mind. “Christ, don’t f*cking do that. I’m embarrassed enough as it is. Why I did this is beyond me. But I wanted to surprise you, and now look. I can’t f*cking take it back.”

Walker moved to the elevator, unsure what the hell was going on, but embarrassed he could handle a lot better than her being hurt again. He had been caring for her more than he’d been able to love her. He was ready to begin their life together.

When the doors opened he slipped inside and leaned against the walls as it took him to the lower levels and out of the hospital. He tried to reach her again, but all he hit was a wall of…not really fear now, but more of what she’d said. She was mortified about something. Reaching beyond that he had to stop again, this time right next to his car.

“Are you a cat, Caitlynne? Have you shifted?” He found he was grinning and couldn’t control it. “Did she just come over you or did you want her?”

“How the f*ck do I know? I was thinking about what it might look like and suddenly there I was, looking back at me with f*cking fur. Why the f*ck didn’t anyone tell me how easy it was? You certainly didn’t.” He laughed. He simply couldn’t help it.

“Are you going to laugh it up or tell me how to get back to the real me? You’re gonna pay for this, you know that, don’t you?”

He laughed harder.

“I mean it, Walker. I can’t leave the house and I have this meeting thing with the president in a few hours.”

“I’m coming to you now. Is there anyone in the house?” She told him no. “Good, because you and I are going for a run when I get there, then I’m going to take you to the ground and f*ck you so hard you’ll never want to be a human again.”

He felt her arousal as if it were his own. He was glad he was sitting at a light because he was pretty sure he would have had an accident if he hadn’t been. When she spoke to him this time it was without fear, without embarrassment of any kind.

“Will you chase me, Walker, if I run away?”

He adjusted his cock twice so it wouldn’t hurt as badly as she continued to talk to him.

“Will you sink your teeth into me when you come like you always do? Will I come as hard as I do when you f*ck me in the bed?”

He had to concentrate on driving the speed limit. He growled low when someone cut in front of him. If this kept up, if she kept it up, he was going to take her before they got to run.

“Be outside behind the house when I get there. And Caitlynne?”

She purred at him.

“You are going to come so hard that you’ll be lucky that you can speak after this.”

Walker pulled into his driveway just as a black cat streaked out the back door. He pulled off his shirt and was kicking off his shoes when he could smell her. She was aroused all right, and she knew it. Moving toward her, he took off his pants and let his cat take him. As soon as he shifted, she took off in the woods.

Flaring his nose, Walker went in search of his prey.

Her scent was everywhere. He should have known she would be good at hiding from him. Her experiences as a human would spill over into her cat as well. He loved hunting for her and when he saw her again, his breath caught.

He’d seen her before as a cat. She’d been lying in Khan’s arms and unconscious. She’d been bleeding too, her fur matted with it. He had picked her up then and she’d looked at him for a second or two before slipping away again. By the time he’d gotten her home she’d been human. He’d not asked her to shift again because he knew she was nervous about it. Now he was glad that he hadn’t. Seeing her like this made him glad that he was seeing her just as she should be seen. In the woods with all of nature surrounding her.

Her black fur was slick and molded to her body as it should. Each line of her muscle and bone were defined perfectly. When she turned to look at him her eyes were the darker blue of her human ones, and bright with excitement.

Walker leapt after her. She was moving fast, playing with him. He wanted her to play, enjoy this version of herself. When he reached for her mind they connected on a level that had never happened to him before, and he sent her directions on where to go.

“I want to do this forever. Can we?”

He laughed at her question and told her they could more now that she wasn’t afraid.
