The Russian Billionaire’s Secret(70)

“Does she know?” Archer asked, rubbing his chin with his fingers, thinking. “Is she married? What exactly is the situation?”

“She is single. She came in to be artificially inseminated. She's young. I'm pretty sure she won't have any desire to give up the baby if she's pregnant. But, she may be willing to share custody if she understands what happened. We are trying to get a hold of her now so we can talk to her and explain. It was our screw up, and we will refund your money. We promise this won't happen again,” the nurse tried to reassure him, sounding desperate and scared.

Archer knew she was worried that the two of them would sue their fertility clinic, and rightly so. They made a huge mistake and now it was going to affect the lives of three people in a major way.

“I want the files, and I will contact her myself. At this point if you intervene or screw with anything else, I will sue. Let me talk to her first and work this out between us, since she's pregnant with my child,” Archer dictated to the nurse.

“I can't release the medical information of another patient Sir. I could lose my job, and our practice could lose its license. We also don't know if she's pregnant yet, we have another week to wait. It's possible it didn't even take, and there's nothing to worry about if she has to try again, we haven't told her yet because of it,” the nurse said, her voice going an octave higher, showing her distress over the situation.

“I want to talk to her myself. Get the doctor and tell him I want to be the one to tell her and talk to her. It may have been your screw up, but I will be the one to fix this. I no longer trust you. And losing your job is the least of your worries if you piss me off further, is that clear?” Archer growled into the phone, tempted to have their entire office shut down for this mistake, if this woman knew who he was, and they didn't have a custody or surrogacy agreement, she could take him for millions.

Stupid. This entire situation was a screw up and stupid. It never should have happened. He pounded his fist on his desk feeling frustrated and it knocked a folder from the fertility clinic onto the floor.

“I will talk to the doctor and see what he says. He will call you back,” the nurse said and quickly hung up, not wanting to be yelled at anymore by Archer.

Archer leaned back in his chair and felt livid. Not only did this screw up his plans to get a child, but now his child might be raised by some strange woman and he might not even get to be in its life. If he wanted a custody mess, he'd have knocked up some random stranger, not tried to go through a fertility clinic and gone about this the right way.

He reached down after slamming his cell phone onto his desk and grabbed the fertility folder with all his receipts and paperwork that had fallen onto the floor, and crumpled it up in his hands, angry.

How was he supposed to be a father if his sperm was used on someone else, who had no ties to him, and probably wouldn't give up the baby?

Sitting back, he tried to think of possible solutions to get out of this mess. All he knew is he couldn't let someone else raise his child and not have him involved.

Burying his face in his hands he started to laugh, but he wasn't amused. He knew laughter was the wrong emotion in this situation, but with his frustration, it's what came out right now.

Thinking quickly he grabbed his keys and phone off the desk and decided to go down to the fertility clinic and speak with the doctor in person. On his way there, he also planned on calling his lawyer to see what his legal options were in a situation like this.

Chapter 4

Shock

Shareena stared at the pink stick in her hands and they started to shake. It was real.

She did it. She was actually pregnant. She had her follow up appointment tomorrow at the fertility clinic, she'd gotten a new cell phone and number shortly after her last appointment and hadn't had time to update them with her most recent contact information, since she was seeing them so soon again, she hadn't worried about it.

She went to bed that night excited, and had trouble sleeping. She tossed and turned all night, planning on taking another test first thing in the morning to make sure the lines were still there before she went to the doctor for her first blood test.

Waking up before her alarm even went off, she went into the bathroom to pee, and grabbed the little foil package and opened the test. She held it in her urine stream for about ten seconds and then set it on the edge of the sink while she finished in the bathroom.

Grabbing it, the two pink lines were already there before the test was even dry. She hugged it to her chest before getting into the shower and getting ready to go. Today was a holiday for school, so she didn't have anything to do but go to the fertility clinic, and then celebrate!

She drove there; having a hard time containing her excitement, when she walked through the doors, the nurse and the receptionist both froze and stared at her. Shareena waved, and walked over to sign in.

“I'm pregnant! The two lines on my pregnancy test at home said so! I know we still need to do the blood test, but I think this is real. I'm so excited,” she gushed to them, not noticing the worry on their faces and exchanged glances as she told them. She signed in on the paper on the counter. “Oh, I got a new cell number when I got my new phone, here's the number.”

She wrote her number down for them and slid it across to the receptionist. The nurse nodded and had her follow her back to a room where she did a blood draw and then asked her to wait and the doctor needed to see her.
