The Russian Billionaire’s Secret(194)
In that moment, Estelle knew who the new Alpha was. She could clearly see who was wiser and dominant from among the two who fought in front of her. It was the one who was calm and relaxed, the one who used his brain.
But even she was not prepared for what happened next.
Rudolph went into a frenzy, jumping on Tyler and pinning him to the ground. He kicked Tyler in the balls, disabling him, then tried sinking his teeth into his neck to mortally wound him.
Tyler suddenly slithered from underneath Rudolph and head butted him with his full force, throwing the brown furred beast into the crowd. And then, standing in the middle of the fighting pit, right under the moon, Tyler howled. This was a savage howl that went on for what seemed like twenty seconds, suddenly turning into one of pain. Estelle straightened up, trying to penetrate Tyler’s barriers to see what was going on.
Rudolph was about to enter the pit, but he suddenly stopped as Tyler began shifting. He howled with pain. Tyler had mastered transforming into man to wolf and wolf to man, but right now, he had no idea what was he transforming into from a wolf. All he knew was that it was f*cking painful. The pain was unbearable. No other wolf in the crowd had any idea as to what was happening either, and all together they broke into a frenzy of high-pitched barks, whimpers, whines, whispers, and woofs.
Chapter 7
The True Alpha
Some of the wolves tried to enter the pit to help Tyler, but Estelle had realized what was happening. Her excitement was apparent in her voice when she spoke, because even she could not believe something like this was happening in her lifetime. She had not expected it in the least.
“Do not interfere. Nobody enters the fighting pit, and nobody leaves the Sacred Ground. The Trial is not over.”
All the glowing yellow eyes shifted from the cliff to the fighting pit.
Tyler, it seemed, had turned into a cross between a wolf and a man. He looked like a crooked man, bent, taller than he normally was. His muscles swelled, and his face bore a semblance to his human face, but with wolf written all over it. His eyes were closed as he fought the pain.
Then he opened his eyes. A moment Estelle had been waiting for.
The packed stared, stunned.
Tyler’s eyes were red.
“And we have our new Alpha,” announced Estelle from the top of the cliff, delighted.
“The fight is not over,” barked Rudolph, and lunged at this newly transformed Tyler.
Tyler reached for Rudolph’s throat and held the wolf with one hand for all to see, like a man holding a pup.
His red eyes glared into the golden eyes of Rudolph.
“You want to fight?” He asked, his rage overpowering Rudolph.
“I give up,” he said, as his yellow eyes turned into icy blue and he began shifting form again.
Tyler dropped him on the floor.
“He is a freak,” shouted Rudolph. “What is this…this is a freak.”
“You are misinformed,” barked Estelle calmly from the atop her rock.
“This is an abomination,” Rudolph continued. “We can’t have an abomination for an Alpha.”
“And you are willing to challenge him,” she asked with pride in her voice.
“No, but he’s not the Alpha. I challenge and fight with wolves, not freaks.”
“With Moon as my witness, I swear that we have been blessed with a True Alpha. And you have all been lucky and privileged to witness it.”
She looked at the stunned wolves. Only two or three of them seemed to have an inkling of what had happened and what was going on.
“I understand that many of you may have questions, and, if you do, please ask now. Questioning a True Alpha later on will only get you in trouble.”
Some of the wolves asked questions, made inquiries, simply to know more about a True Alpha.
“It is in the ancient books of lycanthropy. How a True Alpha comes to be is not fully understood, but it is believed that they have the blood of the First (the first werewolf) running in their veins. The arcane books are filled with information on True Alphas, and if anyone of you wants to know more, feel free to head to the Abandoned Library.”
She waited for a moment to let the information sink in, then invited Tyler to join her on the cliff. As Tyler made his way up to the rock, he motioned for Rudolph to come along; he was still the Beta.
“I am proud to present to you all your new Alpha, Tyler, the True Alpha,” shouted Estelle. Then she howled, long and jubilant.
Then Tyler howled for the first time as the new Alpha.
The entire pack howled after him, chiming in with him. “The True Alpha,” they all said in unison.
Then Tyler issued his first command as the new Alpha.
“Lift the Mountain Ash.”
This was greeted by barks of joy from the crowd.
“Let the period of mourning end, and let the mating season begin.”
Estelle retreated to the den with Rudolph following close behind her. She was relieved now, and she knew that Rudolph will not be making any more of the unwanted advanced toward her. Not after his defeat at the fighting pit.
Tyler stood on the cliff, watching the pair of yellow eyes die down and disappear. He was overwhelmed, unsure of what had happened. He did not understand what Estelle had just said. A True Alpha? How could he be one? How could he have the blood of the First when he did not even know who his parents were?
When the entire gathering had dissembled, Tyler crouched on the rock, enjoying the moonlight. But, somehow, he felt like someone was watching him. He could not tell who, he was far too overwhelmed for that. With the wolves out of the mourning, the winter setting in, and the start of the mating season, he had some big decisions to make as the new Alpha.
