Reckless Souls (Saints Academy, #1)(65)
doesn’t pull his soft gaze from mine.
“Are you okay?” I ask, heart pounding in my chest, and I realize I’m far more concerned for him
than I thought. He nods in response, and my body relaxes. “Good,” I add, and his hand reaches for
mine. I let him take it, squeezing for a moment, before I pull my hand away and rise to my feet.
Wetting my lips, I finally glance at the other three, who watch us with an almost concerning
amount of curiosity, before I clear my throat. There is so much unsaid in this room right now, but I
only have one question, which is not easy to ask, and not that simple to answer I imagine, but it has to
be said.
“So, who’s going to explain sealed souls to me?”
Chapter 20
Khaos
T he five of us, my brothers, Rhea, and I, step through the portal and head toward the dining hall.
Today has been exhausting for all of us. How the fuck has it only been one day?
The snow.
The audible sex between Rhea and Xander.
The shift.
Now, the mess.
If I’m expected to handle any of this, then I need some fucking food to fuel me. My desperation for
a drop of blood also runs high, but right now doesn’t seem like an acceptable time to venture down
that path.
As we cut through the main building, my gaze falls to Rhea, who walks slightly in front with Zen
at her side. Adonis is to my left, Xander to my right, and if the growls that are slowly releasing from
his chest are anything to go by, I would guess his wolf isn’t all too happy about not being right beside
Rhea.
Fuck.
I hate complications.
I had run up to her room and pounded like crazy until she appeared in the doorway. In a relaxed
outfit, that somehow accentuated every inch of her curves, I couldn’t find my tongue to speak to her. I
was too busy fighting my internal need to pin her to the wall and lay claim too.
What the fuck is wrong with me?
Then, when we got to Xander’s door, I paused, almost wanting to protect her from the beast on the
other side, completely doubting what I had gone to get her for in the first place. But to my complete
shock, she stepped into that room and… was everything.
She didn’t shy away from the jet black wolf that growled as it paced, unhinged and unpredictable.
Instead, she dropped to her knees and fucking soothed him.
Crazy. As. Fuck.
With a quick glance over her shoulder, she manages to run her gaze over Adonis, Xander, and me,
before focusing back ahead. Her eyes are dimming, the red slowly seeping back to her beautiful blue
irises. Which leads to far more questions than we have answers, but the main one being the words that
passed her lips when she spoke them back in Xander’s room.
Sealed souls.
She was right in her assumption, but where had she gotten it from? It was exactly what we had
thought too, which was beyond crazy, because that kind of shit just didn’t happen anymore.
I could sense the unease in Zen, him feeling out of control since it’s not a subject we are well
versed in. Adonis seemed to still be in shock over Xander letting his walls down so freely with
someone, magic involved or not, while Xander himself literally looked like a love sick puppy, pining
for Rhea’s attention.
While I… am in complete fucking awe of her.
Usually, Adonis is the easiest for a woman to lure in, while Xander and I are the hardest, for no
other reason than we don’t let our guard down with people. Vulnerability is not in our DNA. Yet here
we both are fighting an internal war within ourselves over how to act around the stunning brunette
who has waltzed into our lives, leaving us gasping for breath.
And apparently, she is the catalyst for bringing back sealed souls.
Stepping into the dining hall, we move toward the center table, the spot unofficially reserved for
us, and before Rhea can attempt to move to her usual corner spot, Zen drapes his arms around her
shoulder and steers her along with us.
Xander’s breathing becomes shallow as he clenches his fists at his sides, not liking Zen’s hands
on her. I almost chuckle at his show of jealousy, but I manage to refrain, since the little green goblin is
perched perfectly on my shoulder too.
Zen holds out the middle chair for Rhea, and she slips into the seat with a short thanks, before he
takes the spot to her right, and Xander quickly drops to her left, leaving Adonis and me to sit facing
them.
Nobody speaks as we browse through the menu. I settle on the steak, rare, and a soda before
relaxing back in my seat. Everyone quickly follows, ordering their food and turning their attention to
Rhea and Xander, the pair of them glancing at each other out of the corner of their eyes. It’s almost
sickening, it's so sweet.
“So, what are the rumors on sealed souls?” Rhea asks, and I grin, liking that she doesn’t shy away
from the situation. She seems to face it head on, just as I would, and it draws me into her energy even
more.
“Your eyes are less red,” Adonis states, clearing his throat as he glances at her. I watch her eyes
