Reckless Souls (Saints Academy, #1)(24)

reply dismissively, but when she stands beside me, the empathetic look in her eyes tells me I’m

missing the message.

“Oh, no, not like that. As in, the guys are going to be tripping all over you,” she states, lifting her

satchel over her shoulder as I frown in confusion.

“Why?” I ask, scrunching my nose in distaste, but before Harmonia can respond, someone taps

their finger on my shoulder.

Whipping my head around, I come face to face with a guy I’ve never met before. With greasy

brown hair slicked back off his face, mud brown eyes, and his shirt untucked, he looks like he woke

up like this. There’s no denying it, the guy is repulsive.

“Fuck, you’re actually pretty too, this could definitely work,” he says with a grin, but before I can

ask what on earth he’s talking about, he’s leaning forward. His eyes are half mast as his face nears

mine, and I suddenly realize what he’s doing.

Before this motherfucker can touch his lips to mine, I reach my hand out and wrap my fingers

around his throat, applying enough pressure to let him know he’s crossed a line, which pauses his

descent.

“What. The. Fuck do you think you’re doing?” I bite, feeling everyone around us look our way, but

I’ll be damned if this idiot thinks he can just kiss me, especially without my permission.

“Claiming you,” he manages to squeeze out hoarsely with my grip getting tighter on his neck. His

hand rises to wrap around my wrist, squeezing my pressure point, but I don’t drop my hold.

“Fuck. Off,” I growl, anger turning my face red as I shove him away from me, and he stumbles

back into the pew, looking up at me with utter disgust in his gaze. I smirk at the red handprint that’s

very visible on his neck.

Before anything else can happen, Harmonia links her arm through mine to pull me down the aisle

so we can get out of here to prevent any other douchebags from claiming me, but I don’t even take

two steps before we’re stopping again, the four guys from our hall blocking the path. I roll my eyes as

I wait for them to make a move.

Fucking great.

I meet each of their gazes, ready to stand my ground another four times if necessary, but to my

surprise, Mr. Cock takes a step back, and his friends all fall into sync too, clearing a path for us to

edge out around them. It’s almost like they’re protecting me? The whiplash I’m already experiencing

with my housemates is frustrating.

Harmonia keeps her grip on me as I keep my gaze locked straight ahead so I don’t have to look at

any of them as I pass, but the second I’m out of the aisle fully, Mr. Cock calls my name, and I turn to

glance back over my shoulder.

“I’ll be seeing you, Rhea,” he murmurs huskily with a wink, sending a shiver down my spine. My

eyes lock on his, the promise becoming a threat in his words, but Harmonia pulls me harder, forcing

me to drop his gaze and head for the exit with her.

Selene, the class A bitch is glaring at me still, but I have bigger issues to be dealing with than her

cattiness right now.

“Don’t let Adonis get under your skin, Rhea. Incubi are literal sex on legs, and he’s a manwhore,”

Harmonia grumbles as we step out of the hall and down a passageway with a portal at the bottom,

only this one has a deep purple coloring as opposed to all black.

“Wait, the hot adonis is actually named Adonis?” I ask, mouth wide as I stare at my newly

claimed friend, and she nods with a grimace.

“Yup, and you bet your ass he knows it too,” she replies, which doesn’t surprise me at all, not

after his dick show this morning, though I’m not complaining about the dick show. “Ready for class?”

she adds, and my eyebrows raise.

I haven’t even looked at my schedule yet, so my answer to that is a firm no.

But it’ll be a cold fucking day in hell before I let anyone see that I’m sinking. I’ll go down

fighting; it’s all I’ve ever known, and it’s all I’ll ever be. A survivor.

Chapter 8

Rhea

M y first lesson of the day goes by in a complete blur. Harmonia synced my schedule to her

phone, and vice versa, and thankfully we both had History together. I almost cringed and

rolled my eyes when I saw the lesson, but I guess going forward it will be a good way for me

to learn about this whole new world. Just not on my first day, when I’m completely overwhelmed and

lost with every word, so not a single one stuck in my brain.

She could have been talking about pigs falling from the sky, and dinosaurs roaming the earth, and I

was nodding along, absorbing nothing.

I need to figure my shit out though, because Harmonia and Noreen mentioned the students had all

been here for months now, and I had a lot of catching up to do.

“What do you mean we have Combat next?” I question, nose wrinkling as I look at Harmonia who

almost offers me a sympathetic grin. “What does that involve exactly?” I add, following her lead as

she heads toward the portal at the end of the hall.
