Reckless Souls (Saints Academy, #1)(100)
to Zen’s displeasure who sits beside her, while Adonis and Khaos fill the row.
I can feel Rhea twitching beside me, nervous under the intense scrutiny of the other students, and I
get it. We’re used to this, among the communities we grew up in, and the hierarchy here at Saints
Academy. We’ve always been held with high regard, with even higher expectations, based on each of
our families heritage.
But for her, this must be bewildering. I can imagine once upon a time, she may have been a
wallflower, hiding from anything and anyone, but it was inevitable that her natural beauty and
presence would make it impossible to continue down that path. That then only led to her defending
and protecting herself from anyone with the chance of caring.
Now that ends.
Here.
With me.
Us.
I relax back in my seat, pleased with that thought as I sense Rhea stiffen beside me. I frown at
first, my brows knitting together in confusion as I turn to glance at her, and it takes me a second before
I hear what seems to have her troubled.
“I mean… are you shocked? Of course they would want to go after the girl at the bottom of the
pecking order. She’s a nothing, a no one, and that will only work in their favor when it comes to the
dynamics of their unit.” The gossiping girl’s voice behind us does little to shield her tone or harsh
words as she digs into the woman beside me, and anger rises inside my chest.
Are people actually this oblivious to life?
Clearing my throat, I release her hand, watching as she looks in my direction with a hint of
confusion in her gaze, but it quickly disappears when I sling my arm around the back of her seat,
leaning in to brush my lips against her temple.
A pale pink blush dusts her cheeks as I lean back, speaking loud enough for the bitch behind us to
hear too. “Imagine thinking someone was a nobody when the portal chose them to be placed in a
higher hall than you,” I say with a smirk. “Imagine gossiping about someone else when a unit still
hasn’t chosen you?” I add, my own catty side making an appearance, and I hear Harmonia chuckle on
the other side of Rhea.
“Imagine, being the girl who stole Khaos’ bracelet from a party at the beginning of the school year
so she could pretend he gave it to her when anyone asked where she got it?” Harmonia says with a
gasp, widening her eyes as she flicks her gaze over her shoulder.
“The fuck?” the man in question grunts, a glare being thrown around by him, but I focus on Rhea
instead of encouraging any further digs. With the inhale of breath and increased heart rate coming
from behind me, I know for sure this girl is about to piss her pants with fear if the glare on Rhea’s
face is anything to go by.
To my surprise, at the mention of Harmonia’s words, Rhea sits tall and turns to face the girl
behind her. I don’t really recognize her. With wispy blonde hair and a button nose, she seems like…
well, any other girl that doesn’t hold my interest. I watch as she audibly swallows as Rhea leans back
over the pew, angry eyes fixed on hers.
Rhea’s pulse is pounding like crazy at her neck, anger coating her from head to toe, and it’s
moments like this that I love the new heightened senses I’ve got. I’m able to go on the emotional and
physical rollercoaster with her and get to enjoy the ride.
Touch.
Scent.
Sound.
Everything.
I can read my girl better than she can read herself.
“I want it. Now,” she bites, making the girl frown in confusion as a few other people in the row
glance to see what’s going on, but Rhea doesn’t bat an eyelash, continuing to give this girl the death
stare.
“W-w-what?” The girl stammers, but I catch the movement of her gripping her wrist protectively,
and I understand what’s being asked. Fuck, I’m proud of this girl.
“You heard me. He’s mine, and I want it. Now,” Rhea repeats, cocking her brow as she leans
even closer. “You don’t want to know what I learned to do as an earthling when people didn’t do as I
ask,” she spits out, her obvious distaste for the nickname evident. “But if you want to find out, I’m
more than willing to show you.”
Rhea cracks her neck from side to side, before moving as though she’s going to stand, but the girl
gives in immediately, pulling the sleeve of her blazer up to reveal a black, leather braided bracelet
which definitely belongs to my brother.
“That’s fucking mine,” Khaos grunts, angry that some random girl has something that belongs to
him, but Rhea scoffs, cutting him off before he can grumble anymore.
“Wrong. Now, it’s mine,” she corrects him, holding her hand out toward the girl as she offers a
sweet smile in Khaos’ direction, and to my utter surprise he doesn’t correct her.
Instead, he snatches the item from the bitch’s hands, leaning around Zen and Harmonia as Adonis
chuckles, and makes a show of wrapping it around Rhea’s wrist gently, placing a small kiss at the
