Not Your Ex's Hexes (Supernatural Singles, #2)(110)

Bax shot them all a confused look. “We’re having sexcapades? Together, or is this a tag-team thing?”

Olive growled, tossing up her hand, and stormed out.

They all laughed as Bax followed her. “Oh, come on, angel! That was funny!”

Damian chuckled. “How long do you give them until they kill each other?”

She glanced at her watch. “That was the last box, and they promised us pizza so I’d say … maybe two hours? Around the time we make it halfway back to the sanctuary. How long do you think it’ll take them before figuring out the rest?”

Hearing Olive and Bax banter back and forth from the kitchen, Damian answered, “I give it a month. Tops.”

Rose wrinkled her nose. “I’m not so sure. Ollie may be the quietest of us Maxwells, but she’s by far the most stubborn. She just hides it better.”

“Then I guess we’ll have to wait and find out.”

Ozzy Osbourne’s “Bark at the Moon” played from Rose’s vibrating back pocket, the identifiable ringtone already telling her who was on the other end.

Damian chuckled at hearing it, more the longer she let the song play out. “You better answer it. She’s not exactly known for her patience.”

“Which is why I’m trying to teach her. It’s a fair trade. She teaches me the badass Hunting skills, I teach her how to live in civilized society.” Instead of waiting for the chorus to repeat again, she answered her trainer’s call. “Good early evening, Charlotte Elise. How may I direct your call?”

Charlie’s wolfy growl reverberated from the other end of the line. “How many times have I told you to never to call me Charlotte?”

“Probably the same amount I told you that just because we’re trolling for intel doesn’t mean we have to embrace the hygienics of a troll.”

“Your ass is going to embrace my boot if you don’t get down to headquarters right now. We picked up a new assignment. Fifteen minutes and not a second later.” Rose’s Hunting mentor hung up.

Damian tried—and failed—to contain his smirk. “She’s softening up to you, I see.”

“Julius thinks it’s just a matter of time before she rolls over and shows me her belly.”

He laughed, cupping her neck and pulling her into a hot, hard, and way too quick kiss. “Be careful out there, little witch.”

“Always.” From the other room, Olive’s annoyed Bax-instigated rant had her grimacing. “Actually, I think I’ll be safer with Charlie’s backside-embracing promise than you will be here with the new roomies.”

Something crashed in the kitchen and Damian cursed. “Fuck. I think you’re right.”

Supernatural Singles World Glossary

Alpha: The leader of a shifter pack (see Shifters). Warning: may growl, bite, or snarl. Bites are usually worse than their bark so make sure you’re up to date on your tetanus shots.

Example: Lincoln may be the Alpha of the North American Pack, but all his friends and family know it’s really Violet who’s the boss.

Angel: Celestial, Warrior, and Guardian; don’t wear halos (they clash with their wings); often possess potty mouths … and tattoos. Lots and lots of tattoos.

Example: Bax may be a Guardian Angel, but there’s nothing angelic about his thoughts regarding a certain Maxwell triplet …

Bwitch: Bitch + Witch = bwitch; can be used as a term of endearment between friends, or a term for someone you don’t like with proper tonal inflection.

Example: Violet, Rose, and Olive are Harper’s bwitches … best friends who happen to also be witches.

Demon: Supernatural entity with historical ties to the Underworld; do not always possess tails or horns. Popular “topside” occupations: CrossFit instructors & DMV employees.

Example: Damian’s inner demon is a little grumpy, a lot mischievous, and super-mega horny—for Rose.

Demon Portal: Supernatural gateway travel for demons; require demon bloodletting.

Example: A little demon blood + mental image of destination and BAM, Damian can go anywhere his heart desires … but not without a price.

Hex: A magical curse; can also be exchanged with four-letter words (i.e., swearing).

Example: “Hex me, Damian Adams is hot as hell,” said Rose.

Hunter: Supernatural bounty hunter: less Dog, and more Winchester brothers; often hired by the Supernatural Council (see Supernatural Council) to bring in the nasties who don’t play nice.

Example: When Damian was a teenage Hunter, he possessed more brood than Dean, had way more grump than Sam, and kicked way more rear ends than a professional soccer player kicks balls.

Hunting: The act performed by a Hunter (see Hunter); supernatural ass-kicking.

Example: Said in the voice of Mama Incredible, “Leave Hunting to the men? Rose doesn’t think so … Rose doesn’t think so.”

Magical Triad: Witch-born triplets; a set of three siblings born into a magical family.

Example: Violet and Olive may be her sisters, but they were also her womb-mates for eight months.

Mate: A partner with whom a shifter has entered a Mate Bond (see Mate Bond); not to be confused with True Mate, or the Australian term for friend.

Example: Rose is happy that her sister Vi found her True Mate, but she’s perfectly happy with her own life in the single lane.
