Love At First Hate (Love At Firsts Book 2)(78)
“That is none of your goddamn busin-”
“It becomes my business when you are hurting Nate. I don’t give a f*ck if you were forced to repress your feelings. You have no f*cking excuses for what you’ve done to Nate and your other children. You weren’t punished enough for what you’ve done, and it might be too late to get you locked up. If you as much as try to get in contact with Nate or Maddie, I swear to God that you’ll be in deep shit, and you’ll pay for what you’ve done. None of your kids want anything to do with you, and I don’t blame them. They just want to live a happy life the way they want to. If you can’t accept that, then don’t try to get into contact with them. You’ll be the one missing out, not them. They’ll be a lot better off without you in their lives,” Matt finishes calmly.
“Who do you think you are to tell me how to treat my children?” Robert shouts.
“I’m the man who’s sharing your son’s life and loves him, something you’ve never done,” Matt says matter of factly.
“I’ll beat you within an inch of your life if you don’t stay away from him!” My blood turns to ice when Robert says those words.
“There’s no way in hell that I’ll ever stay away from your son. I love him! If you try to hurt me or him, trust me you’ll regret it. I’m sure the good people in your little community and group of friends, those who helped you beat up your son when he was younger, would be happy to know that you are gay just like your son who you’re so ashamed of.” I can feel the smug grin on Matt’s face from the way he said that.
“You wouldn’t dare,” Robert says through gritted teeth.
“You’ll just have to wait and see. If you bother any of us again or try to hurt us, trust me, it’ll be out, and you’ll be singled out. Much like you’ve done to Nate all his life.”
“You’re going to regret your idle threats,” Robert says in a chilling voice.
“They are not idle threats. I mean every single word. Have a good day,” Matt says, closing the door.
Just as I think this argument is over and that I can finally breathe, Robert pushes through the door forcing Matt to take a step back. Robert withdraws his arm to punch Matt, but Matt is quicker and lands one hell of a punch in Robert’s face. Robert falls backward onto the ground, just outside of the house.
“I warned you, Robert. Let’s see who should I call. Maybe General Garner or maybe the priest from your church. I’m sure they’d be very happy and interested to know that you love men. I’m sure you love to go out on weekends and get it up the ass, or maybe not. Maybe you’re the one f*cking other men because as long as you don’t get it up your ass you’re not gay, am I right, Robert?” Matt snarls at him, crouching down to his level.
“Fuck you!” Robert spits out blood.
“Your son is taking care of that part, but thanks for the offer,” Matt scoffs, getting up.
“You’re a sick bastard!”
“Maybe I am, or maybe I’d do anything to protect those I love. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go give Nate a kiss before he heads to work. Will you be able to get to your car or do I need to take the trash out?”
“This is not the last you’ll hear of me!” Robert shouts.
“I hope it is or there will be a really unpleasant call made to your f*cked up community.” Matt slams the door and turns to me.
“Sorry about that.”
“Are you really sorry?”
“No,” he says coldly, and I smirk. I walk to him and kiss him with all my might. I knew Matt loved me, that he was serious about us, but this is just proof that we are meant to be and that he’d do anything for me as I would do anything for him.
“I f*cking love you, Matt.”
“I love you too, Nate. Now I don’t want to be a spoilsport, but you’re going to be really late for work if you don’t go now.” Matt pouts.
“I know. I don’t want to leave you.” I frown.
“I’ll be alright. I have a baseball bat right there.” He points to a metal one by the door.
“What is that doing there?” I chuckle.
“It’s almost Halloween?” he says tentatively.
“Really?”
“Alright, I’ve had it there since before you moved next door. There was a group of youngsters that was terrorizing the neighborhood. One night, they tried to break in here, and I wasn’t asleep yet. I crept up from the backyard and scared the shit out of them. Chased them down the street wielding the bat and shouting at them. Never saw them again.” He smirks, proud of himself.
“Why isn’t that surprising me?” I chuckle.
“I’m not sure, I’m just awesome. Admit it.”
“You’re a bit alright.”
“A bit alright? That’s it? I’m wounded!” He feigns being offended.
“You’re the best, but I really have to get to work. Thank you for the coffee and the waffle sandwich. Come over for lunch if you want. I’ll be taking a much-needed break.”
“You can count on it.” He smiles and kisses me before walking me to my car and handing me the wrapped sandwich as I get in. “Drive safely.”
“Always.” I wink at him and start the car. I can see Matt looking around, probably making sure that Robert is gone. He gives me a single nod, and I drive off, waving at him.
