Knot So Perfect Omega (Omega Match #1)(2)
At least, that was what the announcers kept saying.
One of our escorts clapped her hands to get our attention. “Ladies! The team will be up in about ten minutes, so if you need to prepare yourselves, now is the time!”
“Come on, Kayla. Let’s go freshen up.” Kara grabbed the hand that wasn’t holding my finished corn cob and led me to the bathrooms off of the suite.
I chucked my trash in the garbage as we entered the bathroom that was already nauseatingly scented with a mixture of omega perfumes. None of us perfumed enough to send alphas into a frenzy since we were on a cocktail of medicine that dampened our pheromones.
Perfume blockers, heat suppressants, and birth control implants made our scents almost nonexistent, but in large groups, with all the omegas perfuming just the tiniest amount, alphas could smell us from a mile away.
I lifted my arm and sniffed, scrunching my nose when I caught a faint whiff of my sweet scent. My sister caught me doing it and smacked my arm with the back of her hand, rolling her eyes as she opened her purse and pulled out a compact.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if they smell like corn.” She took the small round sponge and rubbed it on the powder. “Your T-zone is a bit shiny.”
She blotted my face with her make-up before doing her own. It was a waste of time putting it on me when I could feel the corn juice residue. Before she could stop me, I stepped up to an empty sink and splashed cold water on my face, scrubbing off the make-up and the mess from my delicious snack.
I wasn’t a barbarian by any means, but it was hard to pass up the culinary offerings at the Alphaball stadium. If they didn’t want us to eat it, they shouldn’t have put it in our suite. The academy didn’t let us eat junk food, so if the opportunity was there, I was taking it.
A squeal came from the entrance, and the ten of us that were crammed around the five sinks all turned our heads like lemurs toward it. “They’re here!”
Water dripping from my face, I grabbed paper towels from my sister and quickly dried myself and blotted the mayonnaise spot on my sweater. Now it was an even larger, darker spot, but I didn’t care.
I just wanted to get this whole thing over with so I’d be able to sit in the corner and play on my phone while the other omegas fawned over the alphas.
“There’s no time to fix your hair.” Kara smoothed my hair across my scalp and sighed. “Flyaways everywhere. That’s what happens when you don’t take care of your curls.”
“Just because you spend half your life on your hair doesn’t mean I want to.” I batted her hand away and tightened my ponytail.
Both of us had wavy hair, and while Kara embraced it, doing everything in her power to make it curly as hell, I chose to throw mine back in a ponytail or a bun. On rare occasions when I felt like it, I’d run a straightener over it. Today wasn’t one of those days.
Taking my hand, Kara led me out of the bathroom, the four alphas that made up the Killer Gnomes already mingling amongst the other omegas in attendance. I refused to breathe through my nose, while my sister took in a deep inhale.
“They smell divine. Too bad they won’t be able to smell any of us with all of the omega scents.” I didn’t see why Kara was worried about that; her perfume was a very neutral, melted chocolate scent that would please almost all alphas.
Mine was similar to hers but had a distinct note of hazelnuts to it. Unfortunately, that also limited my pack prospects because of nut allergies. Not that my scent itself would set off an allergic reaction, but in one of our courses, we learned our slick might. After that lesson, I’d had a nightmare where an alpha who was eating my pussy died with his tongue inside me.
How traumatic.
The alphas’ backs were to us, and I appreciated their tight team shirts pulling across their broad muscles. But that meant absolutely nothing because I didn’t want alphas lording over me. I had plans for my future, and it didn’t include rolling onto my back and catering to a pack, even if the idea of a knot filling me during my heat made me a little weak in the knees.
Kara and I were raised in a pack and had witnessed the love between our parents, but we also saw the heartbreak when one of our dads passed away from a heart attack when we were only nine. It hadn’t only devastated my mom but had weakened the bond between our other five fathers. Things were only going to get worse the older they got, and since my mom was six years younger than them, she’d most likely die before her time of a broken heart.
I shook my head of my morbid thoughts and squeezed my sister’s hand, my heart needing something solid to connect to. Omegas weren’t usually that close to each other, but my sister and I were an exception, and it pained me to think about us parting ways soon. She could end up clear across the country from where I was.
“Be on your best behavior and try to smile,” Kara whispered out of the side of her mouth as if I needed the reminder.
Okay. Maybe I did.
“I think I have corn stuck in my teeth.” I brought my nail to my mouth just as Kane Martin turned and watched as I slid it between my lips.
Oops.
Nothing like a sinfully sexy alpha watching me dig a wayward kernel from my chompers.
He was just shy of six feet tall, with warm brown skin, black buzz cut hair, and facial hair groomed close to his face. I’d seen photos of him with his shirt off, and the man had enough abs to feed an army of omegas. The whole pack did.
