Call of the Alpha - Part 1(17)

“I don’t know,” she said. “You aren’t…normal. Are you?”

“No. But please…trust me when I say that there are things about me that something is telling me I can’t tell you. Not now. Maybe not ever. That really depends on how you feel about me.”

“What do you mean?”

He gulped down a huge mouthful of pancakes, wiping stray syrup from his mouth. She watched his mouth at work while he chewed and recalled how expertly he had used that same mouth on her last night. A small spiral of excitement bloomed in her stomach as she busied herself with her own breakfast, trying to keep focus.

“I haven’t remembered everything, but I know that I have secrets,” Frost said simply. “My inner thoughts are telling me not to reveal myself to anyone. But I know that you’ve felt the connection between us. That connection is more than just lust or even the need to care for someone. It goes deeper than that. You’ve felt it. I sensed it in you. So you know what I’m talking about.”

“Well,” she said, blushing a bit, “lust is a part of it.”

“It usually is at the beginning.”

“The beginning of what?” Jessica asked.

“I suppose you would call it a relationship.”

“You want a relationship with me?” she asked, startled at the abruptness of the idea. He had mentioned it so casually and she had simply not been ready for it.

“I think I do,” he said matter-of-factly. “I am not going to be na?ve and I hope you won’t be either…but this is not love. I know that. It’s something more primal. It is something necessary. Do you understand what I mean?”

“I think so,” she said, suddenly not very hungry. “But if we are…well, if we are together, then will you tell me your secrets?”

He smiled at her and said, “Yes. I want to share everything with you, as I remember.”

Jessica looked into his eyes and there was no denying the pull he had mentioned. There was something between them that went beyond any crush or love she had ever felt in her life.

“Do you know where your home is?” she asked.

He frowned. “Not exactly. I can’t remember where I came from that night, but I have a feeling I could find my way back.”

“One of your secrets?”

“Yes.”

“Do you think it’s close to here?”

“Fairly close.”

“Last question, I promise,” she said.

“Of course,” he said. “But keep in mind, this could get tricky. My memory still hasn’t come back completely and there are just certain things I can’t tell you…as a matter of privacy and for your safety.”

“Okay,” she said, starting to feel rather uncomfortable for the first time. “You were running after someone in the forest, completely naked. Are you in some kind of trouble?”

“I believe I was when you struck me with your car. But I have the feeling that whatever trouble that might have been has passed.”

“Is that a certainty or something hazy in your memories?”

He shrugged, defeated. He seemed legitimately frustrated. “I don’t know for sure.”

“Well, if you can’t remember things correctly, it’s clear that you’ve had some sort of trauma. Possibly to your head. That means you still should seek medical attention. Does your brain heal as quickly as your body? Is that why you feel you don’t need to go to a hospital?”

“It’s odd,” he said, finishing his pancakes. “I understand your concern for me and I appreciate it but I feel very deeply that I should not go to a hospital. I don’t know why exactly, but that’s how I feel.”

“This is insane,” she said, now getting equally frustrated. She stood up from her chair and walked over to him. She looked directly into his eyes, their noses nearly touching, and looked for any signs of a concussion.

“Follow my finger,” she said, moving it back and forth slowly. He followed easily enough. She then ran her hands along his skull but could find no swelling or signs of serious injury.

“It’s okay,” Frost said. “I’ll be okay.”

“Yeah,” Jessica said softly. “I’m beginning to understand that. But I just don’t know how that’s possible.”

“Are you sure you’re not scared of me?” he asked. He was concerned now, as if almost afraid she’d answer in the affirmative.

“I am,” she said, “but not in that way.”

“In what way, then?”

She shrugged and felt herself flushing. “This thing between us…the thing you call a connection. It’s strong. I’ve never felt anything like it before. Are you sure about what you said earlier?”

“I’m sure. It’s messing with me, too.”

“Yeah?”

He nodded. He then reached out to her and placed his hand on her waist. He was still sitting and she was standing in front of him. When he pulled her to him, he ran his hands up her shirt and lightly guided his fingers along her sides, reaching up and brushing the sides of her breasts. Her nipples instantly grew hard and the heat that had started blooming within her earlier grew into a flame.

“You said the lust…it’s a natural part of this?” she asked.
