Breathe Out (Just Breathe, #2)(13)

The books look great as I flip through the pages and I feel certain everyone will love them. I created special books for Maggie and Henry, Maggie’s parents, Henry’s parents, Amy and Eric, Kim and Peter, Jared and Nathan as well as had a bunch of photos printed to be framed.

“Emma,” Mia says, popping her head into my office.

“Sí, Mia?” I reply, keeping my eyes glued to the pages of the book in my hand.

Mia says something in Spanish.

“Qué?” I question as my brain doesn’t register her words.

“There is a handsome man at the door saying he knows you,” Mia repeats herself in her native tongue.

A perplexed look stays fixed on my face as I stand up and make my way over to her. When I get to the doorway where Mia is standing, my eyes confirm the person whom Mia is referring.

“Hey, beautiful,” Joe’s voice sings.

“No sabía qué tenías un novio,” Mia comments.

“He’s not my boyfriend,” I inform her in Spanish.

Joe continues to pet Sadie.

“Por qué no?” Mia interjects and continues in Spanish. “He’s yummy and you could use some yumminess in your life since I’ve never seen a man here other than Jared. Is he single? Because if you don’t want him, I wouldn’t mind my own yumminess if he’s up for it.”

I snicker at Mia's remarks. “I’d say ask him yourself, but he understands every word you just said.”

Mia fans herself as her face reddens.

“Gracias,” Joe returns and then continues in Spanish, “I’m flattered, but, I’m already taken.”

“No, you’re not,” I rebut, not liking what he’s implying.

“I think I should leave you two alone . . . to talk. I just finished cleaning anyway. I’ll see you next week, Emma,” Mia declares as she walks over to her purse.

“Gracias, Mia,” I say when she faces me to close the door behind Joe.

A smile pops onto her face as she mouths Oh My God! and does the sign of the cross.

“What was that?” I challenge a few seconds after the door has been closed.

“What?” Joe feigns innocence and shrugs his shoulders.

“You know what,” I protest.

For some strange reason, I’m only slightly bothered by his remark and I’m not sure why.

Holding up the bags in his hands, Joe ignores the subject and says, “I thought you might be hungry.” He places the packages on the counter. “It’s your favorite from La Pain Quotidien,” he informs with a grin.

“I’m not easily swayed by food. Even if it is my favorite,” I amusingly battle.

He’s not winning by ignoring my question.

“Even with a whole jar of brunette?” he tempts.

I purse my lips like I’m considering the offer. One of my favorite deserts is warm chocolate hazel nut spread on freshly baked bread, especially if the bread is still hot — or strawberries.

“One condition,” I begin.

“Name it,” Joe responds quickly, moving closer to me.

“If and when I tell you to leave, no arguing, no trying to stay.”

“Deal,” he agrees immediately with a victory smile.

Joe moves in to kiss me, but I deflect his attempt by turning my back. I hear him chuckle at my actions as he wraps his arms around my waist and tries to sway me with a kiss on the neck. The tension in my body relaxes with his touch. Joe’s mouth continues its pursuit on my body and nibbles on my ear until I surrender my mouth to him.

“God, I’ve missed the flavor of you,” he admits, dipping one hand down over my sex.

I let out a moan and press my ass into his groin.

Joe’s fingers slip under my clothing and trace the crease of my lips. I can feel moisture smear as he drags his fingers back up. I watch Joe place his fingers into his mouth and groan with satisfaction. He leans toward my mouth just enough for my tongue to catch a taste from his bottom lip.

“As bad as I want you . . .” he devours my mouth. “I want to save you for dessert.”

I moan my disapproval, but I feel my belly grumble in favor of his statement. We haven’t had sex since the last time he was here, which was prior to Nathan’s birthday weekend.

Grabbing plates and silverware, we eat at the breakfast bar. Joe deliberately sits so our bodies are touching while we eat. He’s the first one finished and moves closer after pushing his plate to the side. As I finish chewing my last bite, Joe moves my plate and slides closer, seeking a kiss. I can’t help but laugh at his antics. After a few kisses, Joe rounds the breakfast bar and takes the dishes into the kitchen. I hop off the stool to clean them. Joe watches me with the first dish to see what I do. Then, he proceeds to help me wash the next one as he stands behind me. His hands slip down my arms, assisting me with the task in the most sexual of ways. Leaving the last few items for me, Joe’s right hand finds my hip as his left sweeps my hair off my neck, exposing it. He breathes me in as his lips tiptoe toward my ear.

Joe has our mouths entwined and the feeling of need and desperation fills my body. My hands cling to the back of his neck and into his hair as I moan with each exhale. Hoisting me up on the counter, Joe rushes to take off my clothes. I do the same, grabbing a condom out of his pants pocket before letting them fall to the floor. Just as I get the condom all the way on him, Joe grabs my waist and spins us around, slamming me into the refrigerator. In one single motion, Joe buries his cock inside me and proceeds to ram into me, as if already knowing that this is what I need. The coolness of the fridge is a pleasing contrast from the heat of our bodies.
