Bloodshed (Order of the Unseen, #1)(57)

“We could use a couple more men,” Jensen suggests. “I could text Apollo and Asher—”

“No,” I press, pushing past them before storming back into the living room.

“They’re just down the street,” Jensen argues. “Only a few blocks away from the hospital—”

“No backup is needed,” I firmly say, grabbing my phone from the couch cushions and shoving it into my pocket. “I have a plan.”

“Is it solid?” Micah asks.

“As stone,” I state, turning to Jensen. “I need to get into the safe.”

He nods, heading toward his room. I follow behind him, watching as he quickly enters the code. The safe opens with a low click as he steps aside, giving me access to the narrow closet. When I find exactly what I’m looking for, a smirk claims my face.

Jensen stares down at the empty syringe in my grasp, arching a brow.

Micah lets out a dry laugh from the doorway.

“This will do,” I tell them, twisting the capped needle.

“This is your plan?” Jensen questions with uncertainty. “To shoot him up with something?”

Flicking the syringe, I shrug.

“Fucking Christ, Damien.” Micah sighs. “You’re unhinged. You know that?”

“It’s a two-man job, if even,” I begin. “He’s in a burn center, most likely hooked up to an IV,” I explain, digging through the safe for the zip ties. I shove them into the pocket of my sweatshirt, before searching through the small vials of liquid. Once I find the one I’m looking for, I hold it up to them with a calculated smirk. “Potassium chloride.”

Micah frowns. “Where the hell did you get all of those?” he wonders.

“Black market,” I tell them, locking eyes with Jensen. “I had you in mind when I got this. With you and your love for setting shit on fire.”

“What are you talking about?” he asks.

“Assuming the prick has third-degree burns on most of his body, I doubt he will even make it past the next few days. He’ll be an expected death, so they probably won’t autopsy him,” I casually say. “With burns, potassium can go sky high, anyways. So I’ll draw some up in this syringe. Shoot it into his line and send the fucker straight into cardiac arrest. His body will be too weak to fight, and he’ll meet his demise.”

“Jesus,” Micah mutters.

“How do you know all of this shit?” Jensen asks.

“I read a lot.”

“And how do you suggest we get into his room?” Jensen probes. “Especially considering they haven’t even released his name? And if you do find out, do you really think you’re going to be able to just slip inside, undetected? You think it will be that easy?”

“Don’t get hung up on the minor details,” I counter, disregarding his question. “I’m always up for a challenge.”

Micah nods in silent agreement with me.

“Alright,” Jensen replies. “I’ll come with you—”

“No,” Micah immediately cuts him off. “I’m not staying here and sitting on my fucking hands. I need to let out some rage. Damien and I will take care of this.”

Jensen grimaces, and the tension between them builds. “Fine,” he bleakly lets out. “I’ll stay here with Quinn, then.”

“You do that,” Micah fiercely shoots back, before disappearing through the doorway.

I glare at the back of Jensen’s head until he defensively looks my way, eyes wide. “What?” he demands, irritated.

I shake my head at him, accusingly.

Whatever has happened between them, whatever he did…

He really fucked up.

“I didn’t do shit, Damien,” he snaps, more so trying to convince himself than me.

Holding up my hands, I laugh without humor. “Listen, man, I didn’t say shit.”

“He kissed me,” he unexpectedly reveals.

Ah-ha!

Just as I expected.

“Finally,” I applaud. “It’s about goddamn time.”

His face immediately softens, and he blinks at me, blown away. “But you know how I feel about Quinn,” he tells me. “Especially after being with her last night.”

“So, what?” I challenge. “Who said you can’t be with them both?”

“What?”

“You heard me,” I say, grabbing the back of his head and pressing my forehead to his. “It’s Us. It will always be us. We’re in this together, Jens.”

Finally, he lets out a small breath of what appears to be relief. It’s almost as if that’s all he needed.

Validation.

I release my hold on him and pat the back of his shoulder as I walk past, leaving him with nothing but his own thoughts, standing completely dumbfounded in the center of his room.

The fluorescent lights buzz in the ceiling as we make our way down the hall of the hospital. We stumble across the locker room quicker than expected, making our way inside just as someone slips out. The area is almost empty. There’s just one other person inside. Just to fit in, and appear as if this is where we belong, Micah and I make our way over to the lockers.

The man walks past us in a hurry, dressed in scrubs.
