Beg You to Trust Me (Lindon U #2)(75)
The kiss is chaste, brief, but means so much more than words can.
I begin lowering my hand down his flat stomach to return the favor, but he shakes his head. “This isn’t about me.” His breath is uneven as he settles beside my half-naked body. Grabbing one of my throw blankets, he covers me up. “Plus, the noises you made alone took care of my little problem.”
My brows pinch.
Then I realize what he means.
I made him come in his pants.
I find myself laughing. It’s unexpected, loud, and he grins at me before joining in.
“Laugh it up all you want,” he muses, moving over me and grabbing my panties and jeans from the floor and passing them over. My legs are jelly and body weak and sated but I’d rather not be naked when Becca gets back.
He gives me a chance to redress before joining me back in bed. “Anytime you want me to do that, text me.”
“What if you’re at practice?”
“Coach will have to deal.”
“At a game?”
“I’ll happily let the other team win.”
I roll my eyes and settle under the arm he lifts again and curls around me.
Becca comes back half an hour later to see us in the same position.
There’s no doubt she knows what happened based on the look on her face.
And I don’t care.
CHAPTER TWENTY-FIVE
SKYLAR
A headache forms in the back of my skull as I finish proofreading my paper on Jane Austen’s Emma. After the last paper earned me a C, I had to get my act together and make this one perfect. I learned the hard way that the professor doesn’t hand out easy As in her class.
“Wait a minute,” Danny says. He’s sitting in the cushioned seat across from me with his booted feet crossed on top of the corner of the table. “This dude has a pet tortoise?”
He’s holding the book I lent him, flipping to the next page with intrigue.
I glance at him, studying his relaxed posture as he reads. Pen cap in my mouth, I think about the night in my room. I expected our dynamic to change, but it hasn’t. Not outwardly.
We steal little glances when we hang out, sit closer, with some part of us always touching—our hands, feet, arms, and legs. He’s still a flirt, but now there’s a different connotation attached. Whenever he makes eyes at me, brushes my hair away from my face, or says something sexual to be funny, my mind takes me back to the image of his head between my legs and tongue on the most intimate part of my body.
And when I start blushing over it?
He grins because he knows exactly what’s replaying in my head.
Releasing the pen, I say, “Yep. It’s a pretty cool pet to have in college.”
Danny looks up from the page he’s reading. “The guys and I have always wanted a pet, but our lease states no dogs or cats are allowed in the building.” He’s contemplative for a moment. “Doesn’t say anything about turtles.”
“Tortoises,” I correct.
“Would you help me name it?”
I blink. “Where would you even get one? There isn’t a pet store around here last I checked. Plus, you’re graduating soon.”
A factor I haven’t let myself think about for too long. What’s going to happen when he’s gone? Who will I have then? Olive will be around, but she’s been busy traveling back and forth to see her family or hanging out with Alex, and I don’t want to monopolize her time simply because I can’t seem to make any other friends. Alba and I talk on and off, but it’s mostly in class and to meet up to study in the RA’s office when she’s on duty for the night.
“He could be Sheldon. Get it? Shell-don.” He cracks up at himself before going back to the book. “Is it weird I have a man crush on this dude? He’s so laid back I want to be with him.”
Snorting, I shake my head. “Get in line, he’s got an entire fandom after him and his cookies.”
His brows pinch, obviously not far enough in to get the reference yet. “Don’t worry, Blondie. You’ll always be number one to me.”
I nibble on my lip to hide the smile.
“Caleb said he’d help with the move,” he says after a few minutes. He closes the book and sets it on the table. “We can use his truck to load up your stuff instead of making multiple trips. That hill will be a pain in the ass otherwise.”
“He doesn’t have to—”
“He knows, but he wants to help. Raine will probably be there too. She’s got a cousin that lives in Ellis, so it’s perfect. Maybe she can introduce the two of you.”
“Are you trying to help me make friends?”
“Nah, then I’d have to share you. But Raine is. Apparently her cousin hides out in her room watching anime or some shit all the time. She’s worried about her.”
I’ve learned that forcing those things doesn’t usually end well. “You guys don’t have to spend your bye week helping me lug stuff around. I don’t have that much anyway.”
A smile blossoms across his face. “Look at you using proper sports terms.” He drops his feet and leans forward, plucking my nose. “I’m going to make a football fan out of you yet. Wait and see.”
