Beg You to Trust Me (Lindon U #2)(115)
“He ruined—”
“He’s being taken care of.” I gesture toward his team guiding a very angry Ricky away from the crowd that was probably hoping for something big to happen based on the cell phones pointed in our direction.
Danny blows out a breath, pausing as he rocks back on his heels. “Did he hurt you?”
I shake my head, picking up the last book and trying not to sigh at the dirty water-stained pages. “No. He was just angry. You guys came before he could do anything more.”
His nostrils flare. “I’m going to—”
“Do nothing,” I stop him, narrowing my eyes skeptically. “What was he talking about with the drug test?”
A small smirk lifts his lips. “I’m making sure he’s taken out one way or another. The asshole doesn’t deserve to be on the field acting like he’s untouchable.”
“So, you made him take a drug test?” My doubtful tone has him snickering as we stand. He takes a couple of the books out of my hands and carries them for me, nodding for us to walk away from the people lingering behind.
“No. I called in a tip to someone above Coach Pearce’s head who would actually give a shit if the Dragons were in the news for anything other than the games we win.”
I blink, not following.
“The day I went with you and your friends to the station—” He presses his lips together and shakes his head in exasperation. “It was obvious after you spoke to the cops that they weren’t going to do anything.”
I frown.
It was only a couple hours after getting back from Boston and settling in when I told Danny I was ready to talk to the police. Not only did he go, but Olive and Aliyah did too. I’m not sure how Olive convinced Ali to talk, but the group of us went in together to share what we knew. About Wallace. About the parties we’d been to. Danny held my hand the entire time leading up to them passing me a piece of paper and asking me to write down a written statement in my own words.
But he’s right.
After all was said and done, nobody seemed that interested in perusing anything. In fact, I got reprimanded for drinking underage and was told they’d let me off ‘with a warning’ since I’ve never gotten into trouble before.
“It pissed me off,” he tells me with a heavy sigh. “So, I took it into my own hands without getting physically involved.”
“Like you were about to be sixty seconds ago?” I prod, jabbing my finger behind us. “You could have gotten hurt, Danny. I don’t want you to do that for me.”
He stops walking and turns to me, a sad smile on his face. “Don’t you get it by now, Blondie? I’m willing to do anything for you. Be your friend. Be your mentor. Be your bodyguard. What I want more than anything is to be your boyfriend, which means I’m going to keep being a mixture of all those things even if it means me almost punching somebody in the face.”
“And breaking their fingers?” I inquire.
“That too.”
“You’re a little crazy,” I inform him, smiling over his psycho threat. He’s more than capable of breaking somebody’s fingers, which is oddly…sweet.
“But you love it.”
I meet his eyes. “I…” Licking my lips, I take a deep breath and nod. “I do love that about you. I love you, Danny. And I know things haven’t been very easy with us, but I do hope that we have time to smooth things over. Especially since you’re staying here a little longer. If that’s…if that’s something you’d want too.”
The vulnerability in my voice has his throat bobbing. Bending down, he captures my lips with his in a soft kiss before pulling back. “I love you too, Blondie. And I plan on proving that to you for as long as you’ll let me.”
We stare at each other.
Suddenly, the hunger I’d felt before is for something completely different.
I grab his hand and lead him away from Huden and toward the path leading to Ellis.
When we get to my room, he presses me against the door and whispers, “I want you to be sure. We don’t have to do anything else.”
“I’m positive I want this,” I promise, kissing him again before leading him inside.
He wastes no time dropping my books onto my desk and returning back to me. “I was really hoping you’d say that.”
And then he kisses me.
Hard.
CHAPTER FORTY-ONE
DANNY
There’s an urgency in our kiss. Her hands go to my jacket, pushing it off my shoulders. I do the same to hers. Our boots are left in a puddle by the locked door. Socks. Jeans. Shirts. All discarded in a trail leading to the bed.
My hands fumble with the clasp of her bra until I pop it open and let that join the rest of our discarded clothing. The second her breasts are exposed to the cool air, her nipples pebble.
Dipping my head, I suck one into my mouth, flatting my tongue against it, then do the same with the other until she arches her chest forward and claws at my hair. I chuckle against her, nipping playfully before moving back to her lips and kissing her harder.
“Climb on top of me,” I tell her, hopping onto the bed and patting my stomach after laying flat on my back.
She’s weary for a second, her bottom lip drawing into her mouth as she watches me palm myself. I’m hard as fuck and want nothing more than to see those tits bounce while she rides me.
