Catching Summer (Second Chances #6)(61)

“Evan,” I called.

I started down the darkened hallway, but stopped when Evan put his arms around me from behind. I could feel the warmth of his bare chest and the roughness of his jeans against my legs. However, there was something else digging into my back that made me tremble. “It’s about time you got home,” he murmured huskily. He kissed my neck and lifted his hands to my breasts, squeezing them in his large hands.

“Evan, wait. There’s something we need to talk about.”

“Shh, not yet. I’ve been waiting for this all day.” Next he slid his hands under my skirt and slipped his fingers inside my underwear. I moaned and leaned into him, knowing I needed to tell him about what happened, but also wanting to enjoy this time with him. “I see somebody’s ready for me,” he groaned. Turning me around, he lifted me in his arms and I straddled his waist. He carried me to the bedroom and slammed me down on the bed.

The next thing I knew, my blouse was unbuttoned and his mouth was on my nipples. “Please, Evan, I need to talk to you.”

Growling, he pushed his cock into my leg and sucked harder. Knowing I wouldn’t be able to get him to stop, I gave in and enjoyed his touch. He was good at making me forget my troubles. My enjoyment came to a close when the doorbell rang. Evan stopped and looked toward the bedroom door. “I really don’t want to get that.”

“It might be important,” I said.

He kissed me quickly and slid off the bed. Grabbing a shirt from his dresser, he pulled it on and rushed down the hall. I heard him talking to someone at the door and then it slammed shut. When he appeared, there was a box of flowers in his arms. “What is that?” I asked.

He dropped the box on the bed, his expression dark. “I was hoping you could explain.”

I looked down at them and grabbed the card. “They aren’t from you?”

Crossing his arms across his chest, he glared down at me. “Nope. But I’d like to find out from whom.”

Dread settled into the pit of my stomach. There was only one other person it could be. I opened the card and felt the bile rise up my throat.

I’m sorry about tonight. I’ll see you when I get back into town. I only did it because I love you.

Philip

“What does it say?” Evan demanded.

Sighing, I closed my eyes and held it out. “It’s what I wanted to talk to you about.”

Evan reached for the note and read it, his eyes blazing the entire time. “What the f*ck is this? What is he sorry about? What did he do?”

He threw the letter on the bed, glaring at me. Pushing the flowers away, I got to my feet. “Philip told me today that he had feelings for me.”

“And?” he hissed.

“And then he kissed me.”

Seething, Evan stepped back, jaw clenched and fists tight. “That motherf*cker,” he growled, pacing the floor.

“Evan, I didn’t know he felt that way, I promise. If I had, I would’ve kept my distance.”

“Did you kiss him back?”

I gasped, taken aback. “No, why would you think that? I don’t care about him like that. I love you. After he did it, I made him leave. I don’t ever plan on seeing him again.”

Grabbing a baseball cap off his dresser, he put it on and backed away from me when I tried to touch him. “You sure as hell aren’t going to see him again, but that doesn’t mean I can’t.”

He rushed past me and was out the front door before I could get my shirt buttoned. “Evan, stop!” I yelled. His car roared to life, but I didn’t get outside in time to stop him. He was gone.

Chapter 29

Evan

Heart racing, I could only see f*cking red as I sped down the street. I didn’t know where the hell I was going, but I was determined to get there. I pulled up Jason’s number and dialed it, my hands shaking in rage the entire time.

“This is Jason,” he answered.

“Jason, it’s Evan. I need some information fast.”

“Okay, what d’ya need?”

“I need an address to a Philip Parker’s house. He’s a doctor.”

In the background, I could hear him typing away on a computer. “And why do you need this? Who is he?”

My jaw hurt from clenching so hard. “He’s Summer’s doctor. I need to talk to him.”

“Are you sure that’s all you’re going to do?”

I was growing impatient. “Yes.”

“All right, I trust you. Although from the sound of your voice, I’d say you were pissed. Don’t do anything stupid.”

“I won’t,” I growled.

Once he found the address, he relayed it to me and I headed on my way. I wanted to beat the f*cker senseless, but I couldn’t. He didn’t live far from my house, which had me unnerved. I didn’t want him being so close to Summer. His garage door was open, and he was inside putting a suitcase into his car. When he watched me pull up, the cocksucker actually had a smile on his face. Opening my door, I got out and slammed it shut.

“I take it you saw the flowers I sent,” he announced, leaning against his shiny silver sports car.

“And if I wasn’t in a hurry, I would’ve brought them back and thrown them in your f*cking face. I guess Summer and I’ll have a bonfire with them tonight.”
